Last story I had something similar happen to me, some guy tried to open the back door to my apartment at 5 am waking me up, it was winter so still dark out, I yelled loudly "WHO'S THERE" no answer, so I grabbed my revolver & phone hit 911 but didn't hit call button, as something just didn't make sense, due to time of morning. After few minutes, I heard a guy make a call on his phone, it was on speaker. I recognized the woman's voice he called as employee of my building. He was new janitor, 1st day at work and had mistaken back door of my apt for the janitor's staff room. Glad I didn't do anything rash, didn't confront, just bunkered in, and always have doors locked even when home (army drilled that into my head relentlessly). I live in US.

That last story was BS. This person had plenty of time to call the cops when the guy was beating on the doors of the neighbors. I sincerely doubt that story is even remotely true.
