Biggest problem is the "Magical" through ball. Defense have no clue what is happening, sometimes, actually lots if times, they run away from the ball. And whats with the forcefield around players with the ball?

Man, it keeps bouncing off my players and leaving the opponent open for shots, like my players dont react to the ball, i think its a bug hopefully they fix it soon

for real. especially as someone who literally first enjoyed football as a sport overall and it began when i tried the game towards the end of Fifa 19 I was smoking hash and usually say fuck fifa i dont play football, never was into it as a kid, never was then, but i was high so thought fuck it ill try, by Fifa 20 I finally joined my families long history as lifelong LFC supporters, people call me a glory hunter but what am i supposed to do I literally only got into football at 21 years old when every I know got into it as kids and generally understand the mechanics throughout the years. So as much as i try I can't keep up with most my mates but i want to eventually smash them. This tutorial might be obvious for others but defo useful for me as football mechanics are very nuanced and requires knowledge of the sport in the real world, probably in real life and then playing each version since Fifa 01. It really doesn’t matter how much I learn in defending... When the game decides the odds are against you, your ai defenders will simply move out of the way and let your opponent scores. Yes It doesn’t happen every match, but it happens.

Small sample size but after watching: First game: 2-2, Second game: 3-0 with a locked down defense. Third game: 4-0 after 26 min. Two CDMs cutting passing lanes, full backs staying back , and using the slide tackle are really helpful. I still have a huge problem with the through ball. It is just unstoppable.

i was playing in the 3rd division in Germany and teams were dribbling past my defence like they were prime Barca. Every attacker seems to dribble like Neymar and its frustrating cause my defenders are like cones.
Your defenders are cones because you aren’t controlling them. You are one of the people spoiled by the op ai defending over the last few years. If you want your defenders to make tackles you have to quickly switch to them. That requires skill and that’s why people think there’s something wrong with defending. People just need to get good

But it is true that ai defenders have been overpowered since fifa 17 and now that they aren’t people think defending is broken because they don’t realise they’ve been crutching on ai for the last 3 years. I think Boras hasn't explained the best way to defend in FIFA 21: don't play until EA Sports releases the patch that fixes that goalkeepers are complete shit. You are welcome.
Try and slide tackle more, like boras said it's the best non bullshit way to get the ball. I've been using it for 50 matches and never had a red. Just wait until they can't reach the ball to move or are receiving it and throw it out.
Another good option is to use the ‘quick tackle’. The control on PS4 is R1+O and your defender will lunge quickly into a standing tackle. Effective when winning the ball when your defender is 1v1 against an attacker

Lets just be honest this game absolutely sucks. The defending is non existent and ea only care about making as much money possible from you and ultimate team. damnnnn this L2 is a game changer. also something very important , try to defend only with the middle players(or ST or wings) , last option is the R\LB and then CB'S because then you loose position .
Great vid once again 👏 I'm finding that you don't need stupidly fast CB's in this Fifa, its early on in the game but so far so good. Defensive awareness is a massive stat to have with defenders this year.
Patience I think is the art of defending in Fifa. Also anticipating your opponents play. I know in most cases it's easier said then done, but those are the key principles in my opinion.

The legendary mode gave me alot of trouble yesterday. I tried all of the tricks in defense but they still managed to score 3,4 goals.

Nice one for tips improved so much. Was getting hammered by my mates who play div 1-2. Now I’m drawing or grabbing the win. It’s ace. Defending is my low point but I keep using these tips and I’m getting much better all about that 2m rule that’s key to defending
Division 1 player last 2 fifas this year struggled to get out of div 8 on the last game.
I get they wanted more attacking play bu there is no need for the difference in pace an acceleration between defence an attack an the keepers are useless

i was playing in the 3rd division in Germany and teams were dribbling past my defence like they were prime Barca. Every attacker seems to dribble like Neymar and its frustrating cause my defenders are like cones.
Your defenders are cones because you aren’t controlling them. You are one of the people spoiled by the op ai defending over the last few years. If you want your defenders to make tackles you have to quickly switch to them. That requires skill and that’s why people think there’s something wrong with defending. People just need to get good

agreed having the right players and putting a player where you expect the kick to go helps. relying on the auto switch puts your defender at a disadvantage this year

But it is true that ai defenders have been overpowered since fifa 17 and now that they aren’t people think defending is broken because they don’t realise they’ve been crutching on ai for the last 3 years. This is a fact not an opinion.

The goalkeepers never dive they just fall straight onto the ground. I've had quite a few 10 goal games which is absurd

Try and slide tackle more, like boras said it's the best non bullshit way to get the ball. I've been using it for 50 matches and never had a red. Just wait until they can't reach the ball to move or are receiving it and throw it out.

Another good option is to use the ‘quick tackle’. The control on PS4 is R1+O and your defender will lunge quickly into a standing tackle. Effective when winning the ball when your defender is 1v1 against an attacker

You’re hilarious. This Fifa is the best in years. Huge skill gap. If you have a football brain you are rewarded for that. You can’t just park the bus playing 4231 and counter anymore, you have to play actual football.

@@APinkS14 nah it's not just me that thinks this way look at the overall user score recorded so far on any major scoring site, metacritic etc on there out of nearly 400 reviews the user score sits around 1.1 out of ten which is atrocious. The player base has been in massive decline for fifa for years as people are sick of buying into the ea cash cow.

I'm finding that you don't need stupidly fast CB's in this Fifa, its early on in the game but so far so good.
Defensive awareness is a massive stat to have with defenders this year.

Patience I think is the art of defending in Fifa. Also anticipating your opponents play. I know in most cases it's easier said then done, but those are the key principles in my opinion.

Thanks for this video bro. After not playing for a while and coming back to these sweaty metas it was tough to win anything. I assumed after a few games I'd figure it out... But after getting slapped about in div rivals I had to find out how to stop sucking. After watching this vid I made my opponent rage quit for the first time. Appreciate it mate.
