USS Saratoga CV-60, May 1989-Feb 1994, I was there, my 1st ship, my 1st deployment was Desert Shield/Storm and went through the Suez Canal 6 times. That was when I was young and was looking to the future.... then I lost 21 of my brothers. December 20, 1990, I still think of that night, that could have been My fate, but I could never get off because of the long lines. Rest well, my brothers...Brent and Anthony, I never knew you would become such a part of my life and remember you every day!
I just want to say I have tremendous respect for these men and women that are aboard this vesselmy dad has since died of cancer in 2003 but in 1972 he was aboard the USS Saratoga and he was the Barber on this very vesselthe United States Navy was very good to my dad and my family so thank you and God bless all of you guys and girls and the USS Saratoga and the United States Navy....
Wow! Thanks Shipmate. I got to see a glimpse of my Department, the mess deck and Mother Sara. I wish we could take her out for One More Spin around the World. Salute to Captains Unruh and Frost. Salute to Lt. Moorehead, Senior Chief Simms, Master Chief Leach, McCauley, Young, Miske, Marin, Carr, Lyle, Joers, Brown, McNeil, Burns, Cox, Mickulin, Dansart, Smith, Ebanks and the many others on this endless list of Great Comrades. Thank you all for sharing this life's journey together.
Was on the Saratoga from 1974 to 1975. She was in the yards at Norfolk having just returned from Viet Nam. 1 1 lovely 6wk tour to Guantanomo Bay and then 9 mo med cruise. Saw my door to 3MMR. It was repainted and more presentable. We had a pic of the devil with a pitch fork and flames . Man was it hot down there too. Spent almost 2 yrs. down in the pit. Lot of good friends in 3MMR with MM2 Leo Shaw not with us any more. He was a good friend.
My Dad had two tours in the Mediterranean and was on the Saratoga, he was a fighter pilot. His favorite thing to do was land on the carrier at night, he said it was like landing a postage stamp in the middle of the ocean. Boy did he love to fly! I mentioned once how dangerous it must be to land on a carrier ( and I was talking about when it was light out) And his response was " no it's not really that dangerous because all the guys on the flight deck make sure I'm safe, " I've been on the Saratoga and I remember it so well even though it was a long long time ago, I remember the smells and the sounds and we were treated like royalty. It's sad to know she's been retired. I miss you papa ( CDR L..D.Tennison) 02/04/1928-05/15/2015)
Thanks for the memories! I was on the Sara 1972-75. Was in CR Division on the 03 level under the forward cats. The forward mess decks were never utilized the whole time I was aboard. It was a long ass walk to the aft mess decks.
Man, this sure brings back memories from a long time ago, I was on the Sara from 1977- 1981 till it went to Philly for SLEP, we were over there when the hostage rescue was launched from the USS Nimitz in 1979. We walked the same spaces that's for sure! I was an EM3 in E Div.( Saratoga power & light) thank you guys for posting this, and thanks for your service, shipmates!
Sailor (CV-60) , seen video on 3 April 2019. Lot of fon memories on that ship. And you received a education, and experiences only you know. Thank you for your service. 🇺🇸 Navy Chaplain Corp (Ret) Los Angeles California USA
I was IC2, V-2 Division, Plat Lense. Made my first cruise on Sara in 1984. Made this cruise, and was hurt and retired...on the next med cruise. Saratoga was my home one with VA-83 Rampagers, two cruises as Ships Company.
Remember the alpha strike when there was one E-2 in the hangar bay and NO planes on the roof? Hard to believe I just watched a video of the Sara when I was aboard. I didn't see me. LOL I was in VAQ-132. I did see our Prowlers on the roof and in the hangar and I saw our pod cage. I've traveled that ladder well by the TV station many times. I made the '92 Yugoslavia cruise, too. Thank you so much. That was a seriously nice trek down memory lane.
All that buzzing is from the Radar radiating on everyone. AN/SPS-49 rotating on the top of the island. Ships radiator looking thing is the 48 fire control 3D radar.. We used to take florescent bulbs up there to light up from the power of it to freak fokes out watching from the O11 level
@@bulldozer7656 We did that with one of those little tubes out of the rack. We held one up in the Prowler's nose with that little search radar transmitting and it was bright enough to get the flight deck chief chewing off everything we wanted to sit on later. Whew. Gotta love sea stories. This one time, in Naples…
5:16 T-AO7 Henry J. Kaiser 187. Lead ship of her class and at this time she is still active on the west coast. I saw the guy in the green shirt everywhere at 14:15. That dude was tall!
I served pm board Sara 1981-1960 V-1 Div. Fly 3 and Rep. 8 (Crash/rescue unit). 2Med. cruises. Spent 2 weeks on the Intrepid CVA-11 too, temp. assign. to help in carrier quals.
I am old Navy Carriers I like how you post activity's on carriers ,but I have a problem in that most of the time it is all about AirOps.With out the support of the service divisions the cooks the ship stores and soda fountains ,Barbar shops, laundry, tailor, shoemaker. And many outher services the Carrier could not operate.
Looks better than when I was on her. I was there at the time when the Gulf War started. We were going on what we called the love boat cruise. On land more than sea. Saddam Hussein had different plans for us though, LOL...
I was in the motor rewind shop EM. Got out a bit before first gulf war. I remember my first liberty call ever we were home in Mayport and i couldnt find my way to quarter deck and i was to proud to ask so i found my rack😂big ship
Once the video went the the roof for steel beach picnic, the guy in the green flight jacket with the glasses, what is his name? I so recognize him but not his name. I know I knew him! I was V1 Crash & Salvage. J Stowell
That's me, Miller and these are all of my videos. I'm really glad that you found them. I was holding on to these for years until technology was good enough to make them digital. The fella I'm walking around with is Waynick. He worked in Engineering but we were in boot camp together.
The Danger Zone Wow! These are feckin’ cool as hell! I’m surprised I never came across these earlier! I guess it pays off to cut out from work early on a Friday! I’ll bug u in the future, don’t wanna bug now. I’ll try catching all your vids. Thanks again from California!
Another V-1 Rep here and accounted for. This is Jones (AJ) I was in Ele-Ops, Fly 2 & 3. Hope you guys are doing great these days. Thanks for posting the video. Memories..... didn't know it then, but those were days. A video of the F-35 going to sea lead to the G. Ford, lead to one of the Super Sara being sold and towed to the scrap yard, and this one popped up on the list. It hurt my heart to see this grey lady being towed to Texas to go under the knife. I thought for sure her or the Forrestal would become a floating Museum. Looks like all of the Forrestal class carriers will be recycled. SMH As long as we are alive, she is still alive too. Take care Shipmates!

I'm gonna say your memory is off. Why? Because there was always one EA-6B that couldn't launch because of "FOD in the cockpit"!

It hurt my soul a bit to see her towed so far to Brownsville Tx. For salvage !
2 Med cruises. 1965 & 1966. Decent ship compared to Shangri La and Intrepid that I was a part of previously..
