    Good tutorial dude! It seems you can model some F1 parts. Try to make a tutorial about that. Surface complexity on modern front wings is extremely mad! I bet it's gonna be a best tutorial about complex surfacing with solidworks on youtube! Cheers!

      Phone Industry I’m not sure what you meant by “original part” I’ll try sketching that section only and see if I get the correct surface match. I don’t expect you to walk me through it here in the comments section. Even if I finish with the defect this has been a helpful tutorial. Thanks!

    • @alchemist1111
      @alchemist1111 5 лет назад

      Phone Industry I have not made it back to that point yet. I don’t know where to download the part you inserted. I know a guy that is a a high level Solidworks designer and thought I would show him the problem when I can, he might be able to tell why the surfaces didn’t match correctly and if so I’ll let you know. Until then, I don’t know where I would download the part you inserted so I’ll save a copy to show my friend and continue the tutorial to the end with the bad surface match just for practice. If you know where I can get the part please let me know, if not no problem. Thanks for replying.

    Hey, Thanks for the tutorial. Is there a reason you prefer arcs over splines? Easy to fully define?

    • @phoneindustrydesign
      @phoneindustrydesign  6 лет назад +3

      Prasanna R N you're welcome
      Well I always try to use arc instead of spline from few reasons
      Easy to model and define
      Easy to work with the surface you get out of arc comparing to the one you get by using spline
      Also when it comes to creating both model and TUTORIAL MODEL which needs to be simple and without errors arc is better choice

    • @prasannarn946
      @prasannarn946 6 лет назад

      Thanks for the quick reply! What are your views on tangential vs curvature continuous surfaces? With splines I can get curvature continuous ones but not with arcs, right?

    • @phoneindustrydesign
      @phoneindustrydesign  6 лет назад +1

      that is the area that I should maybe cover with a video, basically tangency between surfaces creates different shape from the curvature transition, of course it can not be done with arcs but I guess it is always less complicated and therefore cheaper to produce a part that was modeled by arcs then the one done with splines etc. ;)

    • @prasannarn946
      @prasannarn946 6 лет назад +1

      That would be great!
      One final question. How do you get the measurements that you used in the base sketches? I would like to model my XBOX One controller but I don't know where to start.

    • @phoneindustrydesign
      @phoneindustrydesign  6 лет назад +1

      well for all tutorial you were able to see on my chanel I do it like this - visit the offical product website and see what dimensions are listed, then I take what I have [meter scale or basic school ruler] and then I measure the rest of things which are not listed on the website
      you need to look at the object you want to measure just like it is in solidworks, look and measure from front, side [left or right], top, bottom etc. take those measures and make some sketches or something
      then by seeing the shape see how are you gonna set the process of modeling and by knowing how are you gonna model it you will then see what other measures you also need
      now of course there are some stuff that are hard to measure so sometimes you have to guess but it is interesting process
      now of course, it's always good to have some real measuring tool such as caliper and micrometer but not having those didn't really stoped me from creating logitech m185, logitech m705, spacemouse and a lot of other models - they are maybe not perfectly precise but not bad either
      plan of how are you gonna do it and using right modeling techniques is to me more important then right measures, that's why I am making all these videos
      also don't forget one thing, if you can't well measure whole model but only base dimensions you can always take images of it or find on internet and those images you can set up in sketches as a blueprints
      by the way good question, I get it many times so I may do a video about it! :D

    This is ABSOLUTELY not the way to model this type of surface. 3 sided surfaces, 5 sided surfaces, point condition patches, G1 surface conditions. Just no.
    It's really important that you plan your model to construct it using 4 sided surfaces and achieve G2 or G3 surface conditions for this type of product.
