“We’re only 10 minutes into the movie so I’m sure they’re going to explain” LOL

  • @MrGadfly772

I saw this in 1968 when I was eight years old. I saw it at the Cooper Theatre which was a Cinerama screen. It curved a bit and was the size of one and a half screens put together. It was huge and engulfing. This movie really captivated me and I am still captivated fifty five years later. There are no clear answers, Kubrick wanted people to think and not be given answers.

  • @JohnnyXoz

Yes if you use the space toilet wrong it would give new meaning to "Poor Pooper"

  • @luciusaquila4326

Another brilliant movie reaction - Kubrick was an incredible intellect. When I first got an Amazon Alexa device I told it to "Open the pod bay doors please." like the line from the movie. She replied "I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that. I'm not Hal and we're not in space." LOL

  • @StoneSlumber

Dasha: "Did I miss something?" No . Dasha, you picked up as much on one viewing as anyone could!

  • @robwagnon6578

You should react to the sequel, 2010, the year we make contact, a very underrated sequel and it is very good and shows Russians and Americans at the brink and some trying to work together in peace!!

  • @entropygizmo2880

No reason for you to apologize. You’re one of the most intuitive reactors on YT.

  • @mwanush

"It's only the first 10 minutes of the movie, right? I'm SURE they're going to explain". Oh my!

  • @Klee99zeno

There is a sequel called 2010: the year we make contact. It is quite good because it answers questions about what happened to HAL and to Dave Bowman. It is not as trippy and weird as the first movie but it is worth watching. There are some Russian characters in it too.

  • @philipsnettleton

You need to read the book. It explains most of this. Also, watch "2010". The actual story goes way beyond that. I was there in the cinema. When I walked back into the street, nothing seemed natural anymore. That's what Kubrick intended. To blow the audiences' minds.

Dasha seeing the pod as the face of a baby bird with its mouth wide open makes me realize just how imaginative she is. I think that's part of why she's good at putting things together to figure out the meanings of movies.

  • @cstephen98

The movie was incredibly accurate. With 2001, he wanted to take a 'second class' type of movie (SciFi) and turn it into high-art. He did the same thing with Horror in The Shining. After him, those genres were taken more seriously.

The floating pen effect was achieved by placing a pane of glass in front of the camera. The pen was then stuck to the glass, and the glass was rotated to make it look as if the pen was floating and turning in mid-air. It's so simple when you know, but it's like magic when you don't!

The music with no video in the beginning was the overture. Some older movies played a musical theme while people were getting to their seats instead of the ads and previews you see now. It set the mood for the film. Once the overture was over and everybody was seated, the house lights would come down and the film would start.

  • @porflepopnecker4376

Your reaction to this movie is one of the most attentive, appreciative, and perceptive I have seen. And instead of complaining "What did I just watch?" at the end, I got the impression that you would thoughtfully reflect upon the film's meaning and most likely watch it again. Well done.

  • @pearlofthedarkage

Yup, this is definitely a "think for yourself" type of movie! This movie was made for you. I've never seen anyone pick up so much so quickly! ❤

  • @Sandy-dd4le

Years ago, my brother, who's name is Dave, downloaded a pc sound notification package for 2001.

  • @stevenklyce3555

I saw the film in 1968. Walked out baffled, bewildered, and amazed. The production brought to the big screen many of the sci-fi, Popular Mechanicals, National Geographic, and George Jetson images we grew up with as boomers. I’ve watched this vanguard over 40 times, most recently in the 2nd row during the 50th Anniversary return to the theaters.

  • @Browncoat66

The scene on the Discovery going to Jupiter with the Astronaut jogging around was a real set. They built it full scale and it rotated like a wheel. That’s why it looks so real, because it was! ❤👍

  • @subliminallime4321

My interpretation is that it's about the next step in human evolution. The end is supposed to be over our heads in the same way that the monkeys in the beginning wouldn't be able to understand the next portion of the movie with the spaceships... I know that Stanley Kubrick wouldn't ever explain the ending & wanted people to come to their own conclusions about it.
