    It’s been nearly five months since McCain passed away, and even though I didn’t know much about him rather than he was a major party’s nominee for President, I learned more and more about his life and came to realize that McCain was the embodiment of a true American hero. The 49 Republicans who voted that night to rip the healthcare of millions of Americans out of their hands will be damned in their graves for showing the nation a horrid example of putting party over country. John McCain may have saved the lives of millions of low-income Americans. He hated Obamacare, and sought to repeal it in the past, but unlike the other spineless GOP shitheads in the Senate, McCain saw what this bill would do to people. People with pre-existing conditions would face tremendously higher fees for coverage. Medicaid would get much less federal funding, funding that has helped scores of Americans stay healthy. The bill would create a terrible myriad of problems for the poor, disabled and elderly. So he did the right thing when he stepped onto the Senate floor and gave the thumbs down. R.I.P. There are laws that protect consumers like the Anti Trust law. These laws are there to make sure that the market is truly "free". Most republicans know that they are important for the market.
      Most of them also know that too much laws will cease innovations and discourage entrepreneurs.
      No parties are perfect, not even the Republicans or Democrats. That's why there is a two party system in America so that both can decide and/or compromise on each other's ideas to keep America forward - something we can no longer see nowadays.
      What pisses me off is not how Mitch McConnell is trying to kill the poor, but how the Republicans are blaming the democrats on the failure of the Obamacare repeal while forgetting that it was them who literally obstructed every move that Obama made.

    With premiums of $800/month and the 2008 economy, I could not. I applied for Medicaid in my own workplace and was denied six times. As a disabled American of twenty years at the time, I was forced to max out credit cards to pay for the anti-epileptic medications that preserve my life. “Obamacare” was not a victory. Technically, you're right because it's a law elaborated and voted by Congress but we know that many major pieces of legislation are pushed by the President who has considerable political clout on Congress (especially of course, if his party controls it). ACA is one of them. I even remember Obama exceptionally delivering a special speech about healthcare reform to Congress. He also held meetings with parties leaders and convinced conservative democrats to vote for the bill. So yes, I think it's fair to say that ACA was one of Obama's achievements.

      Thing is they used a law that said that they could pass the bill with 50 votes. McCain led them to believe that he'd vote for it, so they whipped out that card and used it the one time they could. Collins and Murkowski were courageous here, but McCain screwed McConnel over by making him think he'd vote for him, getting him to use up this law, and then voting no. Collins and Murkowski were crucial too, but they were more clearly defined nos. But I admire all three of them immensely.

      You can, HOWEVER, if you were ever to go back then you would have to pay a PERMANENT penalty. You will pay whatever is the cause of the premium PLUS the penalty. And the penalty equals however long you've been without having it.

    It's sad that people think free healthcare is such a good thing. While yes, it is in theory, it's not in reality. Look at Canada for a good example, look into what you are wishing for.

      longer life-span, higher satisfactory rates, far cheaper costs, far more efficiency, no one going into bankruptcy because of medical bills?

      Can you back that up with statistics? Especially "far more efficiency" or "higher satisfactory rates"?

      Cory Yeah, as a Canadian who have benefitted immensely from the oh-so-shitty free healthcare, I can only laugh at your comment.

    • @majorstupidity1
      @majorstupidity1 6 лет назад +1

      I'm not saying it is "oh-so-shitty" I'm just saying that it sounds great, but also comes with it's downfalls. Many people would benefit from free healthcare, I can not argue with that.

    He said the average family can't afford the Obamacare... And what average family can afford healthcare without it? They talk about meeting a high deductible, okay yeah, I had to. Thank goodness for the needed hip replacement. However, without the Obamacare, a lot of health insurance companies would have been able to either charge a family MORE if they had a pre-existing condition, refuse to cover a much needed treatment, or flat out refuse to cover them. Just think about that for a moment.

    If the ACA was left alone in its original format and not hacked in the reconciliation process, and not defunded (under trump) It would pave the way for universal healthcare, we are the only democratically free country that does not have universal healthcare.

    Sure obamacare is great for those with major medical issues with even bigger medical debt; but its just a money drainer for the rest of us that are relatively healthy. Obamacare aside, I wont even reach my deductible limit on most insurances out there to actually get to use the insurance outside of the occasional prescription medicine. I'm literally just throwing away money for a what-if scenario. Why do I have to throw away a big chunk of my income for this?

      the AHCA endured over 100 revisions in a bipartisan committee before it became law. Yes the initial bill passed through the House, but got stripped and changed in the Senate. Congress has a website, where this information is free and accessible for voters to access.
