previous generation look was better. IMHO. the back, especially those headlight are absolutely horrific. As joe says only a mother could love it. but all the rest is fine. for an SUV of course. this back looks very much as the series 2 grand coupe which i also don’t like. i really don’t understand their reason to exist. it looks cheap as hell
You have no appreciation for this beauty. This is one of the greatest Coupe SUV’s ever made and this is the only review I’ve watched that frowns on the insane engineering and work that went through making it. Your opinion about looks or whatever are up to you but cannot deny that the x6m competition is a piece of art, at least in terms of its mechanics. For me this is one of the best looking cars TO DATE.
Just as car enthusiasts continue to say "I don't get why people buy this" or "why would you ever buy a heavy SUV that has this kind of power/speed" I continue to say, why not? As a daily? Bring it on! 1) Many of us are not in a financial position where we can afford both a true sports car and a car that we can haul around the family/groceries etc...We have ONE car to purchase and when buying an X3M/X4M/X6M etc... it allows us to somewhat enjoy the power of a sports car and the practicality of an SUV. 2) For many of us, we get snow, and lots of it. Unfortunately, buying an M3 or M2 Comp is not going to do the job (even with snow tires). We might be able to enjoy the car throughout the spring/summer but in the Midwest, once fall/winter hits its cold weather, wet weather, and snow. The 2021 M3 w/ xDrive is something I would pounce at if it was available, but since it wont be until end of '21, we're left with less options if we're looking at M cars. 3) These vehicles are absolute monsters and actually quite fun to drive on the main road. Many of us are not going to the track so why not be able to enjoy an everyday daily and the performance it brings along with it? Sure it is not the smoothest ride, but personally I quite enjoy that stiff sport feeling. There's nothing like dusting a C8 corvette as it tries to gain traction when you take off in an X3M Comp :) With that aside, keep up the good work, Joe!
If you can't afford a 2nd sports car you can't afford £130,000 to buy this.. Practical hardly great for the size... everyday use.. Try this vehicle in snowy, muddy roads... Those tyres and wheel sizes will have you sliding into the scenery as quick as you like.. Even in heavy rain it can aquaplane quite easily...
I understand performance suvs to an extent and you’ve said quite well why I agree but bmw is the only brand I think they truly make sense because they don’t offer a performance estate. If it was my money I’d buy an RS6 avant and then there’s also the e63 wagon. But I think the argument is more compelling for bmw because they don’t offer that style of car but you then wouldn’t buy the likes of an x6 if you’re after practicality. The Q8 is a coupe suv done brilliantly but again you don’t buy them for practicality you’d just get the q7 or x5/x7. I love performance suvs though I think why the hell not produce as many high performance suvs while yoi can with thirsty engines before they are all fazed out. Think I rambled but yeah 😂
@@newbeginnings8566 I haven't tried the X6M, I personally have an X4M Comp and have had 0 issues in the snow in Chicago and I'm on the performance tires it came with. Of course I cannot leave it on sports plus and drive like a goon, but it has gotten the job done. I've owned an E46 M3 for 16 years and got tired of being unable to enjoy it in the winter. As I said, if the M3 xdrive was out, I would have pounced all over that, but very happy with the X4MC, love it.
Good point on X5M making more sense than X6M That said, other reviews of the X6M I've seen/read didn't find the ride especially nervous. Firm yes, but not to the point of being unusable!
Not the best car for Joe's height..not that he will be in the back seat if he got one....but how often do you have people in the back seat..apart from children if you happen to have them? If you don't have tall passengers...its a Beauty of a car I think...
Well, here's one of those people. I love it, all of it! ❤️ I sat in the back of an X6 (I drive an X3) a couple of months ago and I'm 5'11". You must have had that driver's seat fully back to have a problem. And if you have two adults behind you, then let the smaller of the two sit behind the driver. Your comment about the driving and ride quality is well founded. The X Competition series is renowned for being nervous and uncomfortable. Great review, bravo 👏
Really surprised that the x5m handles so differently to the x6m. I’ve heard about this before on the previous mode but wasn’t sure it was true. As for the “tramline” effect of the steering, yeah it feels so scary at first to drive this car fast on bumpy roads. But you get used to it over time and afterwards you don’t want to go back to cars that don’t have this extra “feel” for the road. X6m owner myself. I’d say the only time I don’t like the overly sporty set up of this car is when covering very long distances in one day (500 miles etc), by the end of the journey you just want a regular soft x6. But for all other times I drive mine, I absolutely wouldn’t take anything else. Wondering just much different the x5m is in terms of suspension and steering feel ?
X6M looks so much better. Back in 2008 Nobody believes it will succeed. But E71 X6M actually outsold the E70 X5M. That proves when people buy a super SUV. They more likely want them to look more exciting than normal style SUV. In certain areas X6m is the spirit of BMW: To do something others have never done before. 2015 GLE63s came in to compete in this segment. And Urus, Cayenne turbo coupe are also trying to copy X6M because people love the idea of high performance SUV coupe. Maybe X5M fits lots of car guys who want to keep it low. (not trying to draw attentions) But man X6M really turn heads. I wouldn't even look at some Lambos or Ferraris on the street. But when I see an X6M I always give the owner a thumb up.
I’m in line of purchasing the 2022 BMW X6, from the start, he starts his complaining. It’s clear, he doesn’t like anything about the X6, his many dislikes were to me a complete turn off to me (his opinions not the car itself. Nitpicking was all about this video.
It is all subjective which means it comes down to "different strokes for different folks". The fact that you can't understand why someone would spend the money to buy this car is in fact the reason why people would spend the money to buy this car.
It’s like asking why they make 2 doors cars when 4 doors is more practical. Can we just love the fact that they giving us more choice. And I like the x6M The back could have been better tho but it’s not too bad Thanks for the vids man, really appreciate it
The X6 in general is more like a marketing stunt. Building a car for a specific niche in the market, that doesnt exist... And the "competition" makes no sense as a model name anyway, nothing competetive about the lump of metal
Love your channel, at 0:05 in, I thought that was a shot of a big dent in the LR panel. Nope, a design cue. Never cared much for this model of bmw, as one auto journalist coined, ‘bmw’s answer to the question never asked.’ Ok, that’s funny, many people like it though, and it sells, cool beans. In it’s defense, real exhaust tips unlike audi. 👊🏻 Through reviews as always. Loved your 52.7 mpg 900 mile 7 series video. Gorgeous car, paint, etc.
So, the 4,4 litre V8 with 750 NM and either 530/600/625 hp is in the M550i, M850i, X5M50i, X6M50i, X7M50i, M5, M5 competition, M8, M8 competition, X5M, X5M competition, X6M, X6M competition, M8, M8 competition and the 750i/750Li models. The mistakes BMW M makes are not all that much about the styling, but the marketing they do, which does really water down the M sub-brand with those M performance models and those competition models and etc.. Just make it like it used to be, just one M model with unique motor and that is it. Now, M cars are more for instagram models, instead of true drivers.
Grew up with wagons, but you can't get them here in the States 🗽 anymore 😤. The X4 platform works for my taste and needs. Wish the X4/X6 came with a solid Carbon Fiber Roof to lighten it up, don't need or want a panoramic moonroof, also want a Trailer Hitch included. The BMW Exterior Design Team definitely needs an enema. ✌🏻
Excellent Joe. Just signed the deal on a new X5M Comp with that ultimate pack so I'm pleased you prefer it over the X6M Comp. Thanks for another revealing and honest vid. Best on RUclips. Simon
Again good job! Do you see any chance to drive the new LCI G30 Alpina B5? I think they are now also available in the UK now. Great channel. Keep up the good work!
I don't really like BMW cars but this monster looks awesome! Even from the back. It was interesting too see someone's opinion about the back of the car. Great video by the way!
If for some reason you want a super SUV like the Urus but don't quite have enough, forget the RSQ8, get one of these... 🤷🏽♂️ I'd still say a super saloon/estate is the better thing to get tho 😂
A great honest review, respect is due, all I can say is thank goodness I don't own any SUV... especially these alleged sporting versions... now that's a nice comment , so I will leave it there.
Love your videos, Its interesting how you talking about that car in the beginning of the video but its also amazing to hear how the ton of your vice change as soon you Lounch and drive that amazing machine. 😂 I had 2 x6. The ultimate driving machine 😎
Great review again . Why people buy this shap suv i still can't understand too. Mec has one too . There must be ugly ducklings in every manufacturer. Keep.safe Joe .
Joe, as someone who appreciates BMW engineering - a fanboy, your words - it's refreshing to hear your honest take on the X6 M Comp. I found it very insightful that you recommended the Audi RS Q8 as a more confidence building and comfort inducing alternative. I was also wondering what your confidence level is in terms of drive trains? Don't get me wrong, BMW's V8 performance is impressive, but the N63 has had a notorious history of reliability issues. I own a couple Audi's (S5, Q5) and was looking to move to a midsize performance SUV/coupe. I like the look - don't ask me why?! - of the humpback X6 - especially in the M50i trim: it's interior cabin accommodations, sans the rear seat room are premo! But I lack confidence in the durability of it's hot vee twin turbo v8. The SQ8/RSQ8 is beautiful but lacking many premium interior amenity options. The Porsche Cayenne S/GTS have most of the features at a very steep price though. Merc has suspended production of majority of its biturbo v8 production (to N America). Are you confident in the durability of the VWG/Audi/Porsche twin-turbo hot vee V8s? If one were to go with six cylinders, one can't argue build quality of BMW's I6 (B58, etc) over the V6 competition. Keep up the great content!!!
Always think you do a great product on your channel Joe. Ever considered doing a sideline of something like a 3.0L CSL (BatMobile) type of car from the early days?
I get such anxiety when I see you drive on the left side, I know it's the correct way to drive in the UK but holy shit I would never be able to drive in the UK.
Hello Joe, first of all congratulations for the channel, great content, I was watching the tests of the bmw X5 M Competition and the X6 M Competition, if you were to choose one of them, which one would it be, which one did you like best and why.
Another good review Joe. I've watched alot of your BM reviews and I think BMW could do with watching some as you dont seem to be impressed with the ride quality on any of the newer models except the M5 and M2 comp. Loved your latest one with your 7 too. Look forward to the next one.
Agree that practicality is too much limited with this car which brings to point why you would need X6 than standard 5 Series sedan. I think only looks, which actually I am big fan of but after comparing it to BMW M5 or 550i it very hard to justify purchase of X6.
Not everyone likes that Q8... and if you want something comfortable you buy a 7 series... These SAC vehicles don't have the purpose to be too practical, but more wild and exclusive. The suspension set-up can be interpreted depending on individual expectations and area of usage 😉
Thanks for the review & explaining the BOTB. I initially thought it was an acronym for Bottom Of The Barrel (depicting your feelings about the X6). We all know what BYOB means. But kids are creating a whole new language via txt that's hard to keep up with. Sorry Joe, I know this comment is off topic but it's always great seeing you review vehicles (and M cars). Can u review Shmarks' redesigned M2Comp sometime?
Another enjoyable video Joe. Prefer the X5 the X6 styling is a very limited audience appeal. In fact the X5 45e is the pick of the bunch on the market from BMW given UKs 2030 deadline on ICEs
Joe, I have to disagree here, but maybe you’re too tall for this car hence the negativity. Under 6ft like me would have fun with this! This X6M looks amazing to me & certainly not going anywhere near the X5M (that’s a bus).
Hi Joe I love your videos what tyres can you put on a m235i 2016 reg? I want Michelin ps4s but can only find the them for the front. My tyre fitters can only get ps4 not the ps4s for the rears? Is this correct? Thanks mate
Hey buddy, appreciate the support mate! Yeah unfortunately you can only get the PS4S'S in 19's or bigger in the UK at the moment, 18's will be available later in the year. Either get a set of PS4's or the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersports 👌
In terms of large sports BMW - M5 first choice, then M8 GC, then X5M if you must. I see no point in having the X6 platform at all...although lots of customers clearly disagree as plenty of them on the road.

Weirdly, I'm a big fan of the looks
Same here, seen one in person recently and it looks very futuristic, the on road equivalent to a UFO 😭
I loove the looks...get disappointed hearing about how bad the ride quality is...though I wonder if it can also be an individual thing as well....
@@chydolimit my dad has one, ride quality is phenomenal

I’d have an x6 any day over the x5 or 4 if I had the need - I like its style as unique but I would just go for a 30d version

Another great vid Joe. Personally I like the look 👍
FYI there’s no difference is suspension setup between X5M and X5M Comp and X6M and X6M Comp. Unlike the M5 and M5 comp there’s no suspension change

The back of this thing is just awful
When you reverse into a bollard no one will notice.
Plus sides A,you can't see how bad it is from inside..B, Just walk to the front and the rear is least of your worries style wise.
Bmw styling wise have lost it.
By far IMO the best reviewer of any car these days great work Joe.

I never see the point of a performance SUV, just get one that's slower but just powerful enough for your need
You've obviously never owned one.
I get such anxiety when I see you drive on the left side, I know it's the correct way to drive in the UK but holy shit I would never be able to drive in the UK.
Same way I feel about left hand drive cars
Hello Joe, first of all congratulations for the channel, great content, I was watching the tests of the bmw X5 M Competition and the X6 M Competition, if you were to choose one of them, which one would it be, which one did you like best and why.
Enstone! The very early days of learning to J turn a Mk 2 Polo :p
Awesome video Joe. Tonnes of angles and effort into this. 👌
That intro was sick
Fantastic Car . I just bought the M50D 2021 version purely for improved fuel consumption. Who said SUV's were boring.
Another good review Joe. I've watched alot of your BM reviews and I think BMW could do with watching some as you dont seem to be impressed with the ride quality on any of the newer models except the M5 and M2 comp. Loved your latest one with your 7 too. Look forward to the next one.
Once I love something no one can change my mind from it. This is my dream car
Would this be a good daily driver? Also does it come standard with ambient lighting?
I really don't like the look of any X6 cars except this one. Looks awesome.
I prefer to buy a used X4 20d xdrive as it is a nice size for me.
Don't agree re, looks, I prefer it over the X5, I would also go for the M50d, as much Torque with better comfort, however, I'm only dreaming..
This is the most accurate portrayal of the X6M I have ever seen.
Think I'm gonna go buy some skinny Jean's now, bloody influencers eh 😁
Agree that practicality is too much limited with this car which brings to point why you would need X6 than standard 5 Series sedan. I think only looks, which actually I am big fan of but after comparing it to BMW M5 or 550i it very hard to justify purchase of X6.
I dont care bout rear passengers, I bought my X4 for the looks, and how it drives for me. If your not happy seating in the rear get your own car.
Thankfully we all have different taste.
get your eyes checked
It looks like it’s been rear ended 😂😂 Ghastly thing
my thoughts exactly on that opening shot
Haha almost loses the back end in that first clip..! Epic machine though 👏🏽
I love everything about x6m that's a beast ❤️
Only idiots with no taste said this car is not beautiful and not cool.
Which make are you jeans Joe? Good review BTW.
Thanks buddy, I only tend to wear G-Star, they have always fitted me really well 👌
@@JoeAchilles1 Thanks mate. I was just looking at those online, you look a similar build to me - they fit you well.
I think the back of the X6 is the most attractive part of the vehicle
Great video Joe! 👌🏻 why indeed... the X5M does everything this does but better and looks better. Personally preference is a funny thing 👍🏻
Another enjoyable video Joe. Prefer the X5 the X6 styling is a very limited audience appeal. In fact the X5 45e is the pick of the bunch on the market from BMW given UKs 2030 deadline on ICEs
Good to see you in west Oxfordshire. Shame didn’t see you in my M3 👍🏻
This car needs to be lowered it’s too high, it needs some eibach springs or H&R spring to lower it
You buy a suv to get the high ride and LoWER it? Wtf is the point?
@@Tomoyo0827 yes
Your neighbor was right. Someone did run into the back of that car! Vent on side of rear bumper just looks awful
Joe, I have to disagree here, but maybe you’re too tall for this car hence the negativity. Under 6ft like me would have fun with this!
This X6M looks amazing to me & certainly not going anywhere near the X5M (that’s a bus).
The rear seat issue was a tiny sideline issue for me, I found the whole package fundamentally flawed
@@JoeAchilles1thanks Joe buddy 👍
In terms of large sports BMW - M5 first choice, then M8 GC, then X5M if you must. I see no point in having the X6 platform at all...although lots of customers clearly disagree as plenty of them on the road.
I love it. Even the rear. 😍
Could you compare suspension of this new X6M with previous generation X6M? Is it less comfortable or more or less the same?
LOVE
The Urus slayer
nope
@@neilmcmahon if u watch the video on RUclips the x5m flogs the rs6 more then what the urus does
Welcome to the club on the visuals.
