Paul, I am a huge fan of your content but I simply can’t get behind using kosher salt or any highly refined “sea salt”. Beware of sea salts that are marketed as such, but are not the real deal. The big difference is in how it is produced. Kosher salt and fake sea salts are industrially processed and stripped of all the trace minerals leaving pure sodium chloride. So it’s no surprise that they don’t have any trace heavy metals either. I’m all about minimizing the heavy metal exposure and finding the cleanest sea salt, but many good sea salts are produced in small scale operations with nothing but raking and evaporation leaving all the important nutritious trace minerals intact. Just do a quick RUclips search about how sea salt is produced and then do one about how industrial table salt is produced. And kosher salt isn’t really much different than table salt and its process processing. Check out the book Salted (especially the first chapter or two ) by Mark Bitterman for more details on the history of salt and the rise of big salt.

Just a thought: if you test table salt (e.g., from Morton), you probably will find zero trace of all the heavy metals as well. So is it possible that Diamond crystal is not real sea salt?
My train of thought as well. Most, if not all, salts are all highly processed and maybe those that are more processed, like Mortons and Diamond are stripped of contaminates but are load with other chemiclas, like bleach. I tend to agree with you that those aren't real sea salt. All salts go through processing. I'm from Hawaii and we are banned from selling sea salt made in the traditional way because the FDA says it's not "sterile." I make my own sea salt straight from the cleaniest parts of the Pacific. Real sea salt made in any traditional way does not look like the sea salt sold in shops. Real sea salt is not uniform in shape, like all the ones in stores.
Celtic salt is the one , which has the most minerals, followed by Himalayan salt ( that you even don't talk about it ! ). Celtic is not processed, nor bleached , nor refined . This is more the people, who eat table salt, who will becone sick with various symptoms on longterm ...
@@Paulsaladinomdtoxic salt is been helping me with my high blood pressure and three stents in my heart and no medication no more and also cayenne pepper
I don't see where Diamond Crystal Salt is a sea salt. It doesn't have minerals because it has been processed out. The same with Jacobsen Salt. It started out as mineral salt and the minerals have been processed out naturally, not with chlorox, etc. like mortons. So the least amount of lead, etc. would be the baja gold mineral salt, making it the winner if you want the 91 minerals we need.
Why were you surprised and shocked that salt contains these heavy metals - naturally? Many Foods Contain heavy metals like Aluminum, Arsenic, cadmium, lead, etc. Everyone would exceed .5 micrograms per day if they followed this. And actually, the Prop 65 .5 micrograms per day is for reproductivity. The Prop 65 safe harbor level is actually 15 micrograms per day per serving and none of these salts exceed the Prop 65 level for the average consumer. Baked goods: Steamed breads, buns, cakes, muffins, pancakes, waffles, and coconut tarts Cereal products: Cereals and cereal-based foods like bread, rice, cakes, biscuits, and pastries Dairy products: Cheese MEAT: Yes, meat can contain aluminum, cadmium, Arsenic, and lead but the amount is very small, just as in salt. Vegetables: Some vegetables like mushrooms, spinach, radish, and lettuce Herbs and spices: Tea leaves, cocoa, and some herbs and spices Frozen pizzas: Contain up to 14 mg of aluminum from sodium aluminum phosphate Ready-to-eat restaurant pizzas: Contain 0.03-0.09 mg of aluminum Other foods: seafood People are also exposed to these heavy metals through AIR and DRINKING water.
I was surprised at the amount of heavy metals in salts because it exceeds the safe levels for lead intake. Heavy metals can occur naturally in the foods we eat but this report is showing levels that are far beyond safe… The Environmental Working Group has spoke extensively about the dangers of heavy metals in drinking water too. I strongly believe we should be extremely careful about heavy metals in food.
@@Paulsaladinomdyes but your prop 65 levels are wrong. It is .5 micrograms for reproductive (I.e pregnant and infants), and 15 micrograms daily per serving for everyone else. And prop 65 levels are 1,000 times less the “normal” recommended rates.
Paul did you run these tests your self or did you just copy it from LEAD SAFE MAMA article "How much Lead is in salt? Which salt is safest to use for cooking? Is Himalayan salt safe?"
@@leo-us-i1r Yes they are. Redmans salt for example is from the earth and has no additives or pollution since it hadnt been touched at all when it was discovered. I live in state where all children are obese, diabetic, have a mental health problem, trans and/or autistic.
Make America healthy again. Trump 24
Trump is part of the elite, all pissing in the same pot
he just promoted mcdonalds the other day & you're spouting this "healthy" nonsense...grow up already, it doesn't matter who is president. they're all puppets. imagine rooting for the other side of the same coin.
Trump only cares about profit. Good luck with that.
Switched to Redmond's from Diamond because Diamond has anti caking agents and thought that was making it less pure salt. Even when you think you are being clean you can't avoid the dirty in the food supply
So crazy! A year or so I switched from Diamond Crystal Kosher to Redmond Real Salt presuming that mining ancient sea beds would be better. Clearly we need lots more testing of our food! Will be interesting to see how Redmond and these other companies respond.
Honestly the amount of other minerals that come from salt are not that significant compared to other food sources so I'd rather not be having heavy metals from this one controllable source in order to get small amounts of trace minerals.
Redmond has a video in their site already. Go watch. Been there for a long time.
@Paulsaladinomd
It's just one independent study that can even be manipulated. We need a serious study and/or more studies analyzing this in a detailed matter! I'm not convinced of this only study; we don't even know who financed it.
Regarding the Celtic Salt -- 💯% disagree. I was not absorbing any pink salt or regular Badia Sea Salt. I switched over to the Celtic Salt and within 1 day noticed a big improvement in electrolyte absorption. My cells are very happy with this salt now. They are not all wonky like they were with the pink or sea salt.
EVERY BODY is different and so there we have to listen to our body and how it reacts.
ONE SINGLE study does not make the world go round Paul. For me personally, not supporting that study at all.
The electrolytes are great. It’s the heavy metal toxicity building up in the background which isn’t good
I don't believe anybody can feel the difference between different salt on their bodies electrolyte levels
completely ridiculous
I honestly feel that microplastics are the bigger issue with most salts being directly store in plastic and the fact we are exposed to it much more than lead
Really?? Plenty of data on how bad lead is for humans. I think you should worry about both.
@@allenbrost9564 maybe learn to read? I never said lead is not an issue. I am and do worry about both, I simply worry about microplastics more. This seems very logical as I am exposed to lead exponentially less than plastic. In the moment I am in contact with several items made of plastic and rarely touch lead. If I am exposed to 1000 times more plastic but lead is 100 times more toxic I should still be more worried about microplastics. Obviously we don’t know those numbers exactly but plastic is likely the bigger issue in the current world
@bigfootgoesboom I would respond, but since I can't read, not really sure what u said. Probably nothing important anyway. Cheers.
You did not mention Pink Himalayan Salt ? ? ?
I know that's what I'm most curious about
@@kakusei3672garbage that’s why
That's what I use. Not knowing anything about this issue, my guess is that it is related to metals in the ocean water.
@Amna.Talpur that s what I use. 😊
I also want to know ..
Shocked on redmonds
I love redmond salt❤. Plus i don't live inside the bubble.
I have been doing lion diet/ fasting for over 3 years, and i use redmond salt since. I feel healthier at 53 than i was at 23, especialy since i dich the SAD toxic seed oils so cal faje foods
i'll stick to Redmonds. I bet if you test them again you would get very different results.
Paul, we need to look into this study. I’m suspicious when the biggest company has the cleanest salt. Who funded this study
Unfortunately, it’s dangerously high in lead…
@@Paulsaladinomd why didn’t you mention pink salt?
@@Paulsaladinomdtoxic salt is been helping me with my high blood pressure and three stents in my heart and no medication no more and also cayenne pepper
I don't see where Diamond Crystal Salt is a sea salt. It doesn't have minerals because it has been processed out. The same with Jacobsen Salt. It started out as mineral salt and the minerals have been processed out naturally, not with chlorox, etc. like mortons. So the least amount of lead, etc. would be the baja gold mineral salt, making it the winner if you want the 91 minerals we need.
Thank you . I’ve been wondering about this .
Baked goods: Steamed breads, buns, cakes, muffins, pancakes, waffles, and coconut tarts
Cereal products: Cereals and cereal-based foods like bread, rice, cakes, biscuits, and pastries
Dairy products: Cheese
MEAT: Yes, meat can contain aluminum, cadmium, Arsenic, and lead but the amount is very small, just as in salt.
Vegetables: Some vegetables like mushrooms, spinach, radish, and lettuce
Herbs and spices: Tea leaves, cocoa, and some herbs and spices
Frozen pizzas: Contain up to 14 mg of aluminum from sodium aluminum phosphate
Ready-to-eat restaurant pizzas: Contain 0.03-0.09 mg of aluminum
Other foods: seafood
People are also exposed to these heavy metals through AIR and DRINKING water.
I was surprised at the amount of heavy metals in salts because it exceeds the safe levels for lead intake. Heavy metals can occur naturally in the foods we eat but this report is showing levels that are far beyond safe…
The Environmental Working Group has spoke extensively about the dangers of heavy metals in drinking water too.
Hope to see a study soon on microplastics
Just when you think you're eating the best food, someone posts a video of how toxic it all is.
Eye-opening. I am switching to the other two. Was a Celtic salt and Redman’s salt user for years.😳 thank you Dr. Paul.
How is the healthy mineral content in Jacobsen and Diamond? Have they washed them away?
That's what I was thinking
Yes they don't have any good minerals like the others do.
Very true. I use baja gold specifically for the trace minerals
@@djrichardcrest2001 are you concerned about the lead?
Organic heavy metals are perfectly fine they affect the body differently. I'm going to keep using redmons
It's the accumulation that matters. Everything in moderation, friend.
@Billbeaux Everything in moderation is bad advice
No, they are not fine
Organic arsenic isn't as bad as inorganic arsenic but organic mercury is far, far more toxic.
@@leo-us-i1r Yes they are. Redmans salt for example is from the earth and has no additives or pollution since it hadnt been touched at all when it was discovered. The makeup of the minerals is completely natural and the heavy metals are not harmful when in their natural organic form in this way. The danger comes from heavy metals that have been added due to pollution or contamination.
What about Himalayan salt?
This is a pain to see and hear about so much stuff messing with our health. We are so done and just hope to stay alive and well as long as possible. Stay alive and well and God bless you all.
Hi Paul! I got a 10 months young baby, i'm really struggeling with what to feed her. Our mom in the hospital tells us they need alot of carbs like potato/rice etc. Could you maybe consider making a video for babies/children?
At this point, the heck with it, I'm just going back and eat garbage, can't keep it out of my system anyway.
Let's go Diamond Crystal! I just bought a bunch for dry brining, now I feel safe about my purchase!
0:36 Taurine protects against the harmful effects of heavy-metals. Supplement 2-10 grams per day.
What do you use for the taurine?
@@tct84I buy the bulk bags (1kg). I don't recommend specific brands.
@@tct84beef
doesnt this mean just eating meat then with regular pink salt should be fine then?
@@robotmechanicalwhizkid2521 Cooked meat is low in taurine (this is what *_"Pottenger's cats"_* actually showed), and all experimental mammals show improved health with supplemental taurine, regardless of diet.
I was using the blue celtic bag per Barb O’neille’s suggestion and then got redmonds delivered yesterday after I saw his post but before this video dropped. Now I have to wait to buy Jacobsens 🥴
I’m over here eating sprinkling Celtic salt on everything 🤦🏼♂️
Wonderful, another thing ive got to get out of my diet. Literally just bought Redmond refill few days back. When will thus end??!!!
Just one question. Who eats 8.8 grams of salt a day? Thats an insane amount of salt.
On average, people consume 6-9g of salt per day. That’s salt, not sodium…
I said the same thing maybe the average american eating ultra processed foods
@@Paulsaladinomd that’s where I was confused. I knew avg American had 3500mg sodium. Thats about 8g salt if salt is 40%sodium and 60% chloride.
Nobody knows about Seasonello Sea Salt, and I'm totally cool with that, more for me!
There are ways to rid yourself of the heavy metals. The cleaner the salt the less trace minerals.
It’s about knowing what salt to use for what purpose and when and how much to use.
What about pink Himalayan salt?
That ain't sea salt. Well, not as we know it. It's an ancient dry mountain sea bed but it ain't sea salt.
I heard it was one of the highest…
Thanks for the important information
PLEASE 🙏 what salt we should buy?
Hello Dr.! Can you find out why neither Diamond Crystal, Jacobson, nor Redmond, contain iodine? What is your best bet when it comes to salt ? I guess for iodine, eggs and cheese can be good sources ?
Informative thank you 👍🏻✨
Good video. Is the mineral content of the sea salts comparable? Avoid the bad, try to take in the good. Maybe another video that considers that? Or, perhaps in this case, the bad is so bad, that it's better to just have an elimination diet attitude (but then you would probably end up with Morton's regular salt?)
What about the Kirkland sea salt?
Diamond crystal and jacobsen are the best for avoiding heavy metals. This is just a reminder for myself, LoL.
The study is not reliable
I use Volcanic Pink Salt from Quantum Nutrition Labs, it is pricy so I use it just as a finishing salt on my meat and eggs. I put a small pinch in my RO water as well. I will order some Jacobsen Salt also, thanks for the info Paul.
Thanks Paul! This helps! We’re using Jacobson & Maldon. Do you still like Maldon?
I just read something about Celtic having, like 84 trace minerals including some good magnesiums. It also said Himalayan Sea Salt had about 80 and the rest next to none. Can you please do an update and include a discussion on the trace minerals? None of these others are mentioned specifically in that trace mineral discussion
The only thing that really shits me is that in Australia, I’m paying heaps for Redmonds salt because it’s fuggin expensive here. I’m talking $55 for 2 bags of the stuff. I guess I’ll go back to using supermarket pink salt for $5 kg
People are super loyal to their salt brand, especially if they cook a lot and stir it into their water because they know they will need to sweat it out.
1. Colima (Mexico)
2. Saltverk (Iceland)
3. Verasalt (Spain)
Specially salt for cooking is a lot of fun, the above is for daily consumption.
Can u do a review on water filters - all kinds over the counter . Under sink, reverse osmosis, proone, bleuvua, berkey and the aquatru. Thx
This dude has fallen off the deep end. To many rabbit holes to go down. He's about to start selling his own salt is what it sounds like.
Dude you are literally doing God’s work. Your videos saved my life. I’m about to make some significant changes in my career for the better that your dietary tips helped me take on as the best version of myself I’ve been in 5 years.
Ok, which salt and salt brand should I use, Paul?
Very interesting information! Do more videos like this, especially, one for chocolate.
Best to worst : 1) Diamond crystal kosher , 2) Jacobsen 3) Baja Gold (lead) 4) Redmond real salt (lead) 5) Celtic sea salt (lead). The first two brands are acceptable but the last three are not .
Dr. Saladino is the Greatest!!! 🙏✝️🤴🐮🤠👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Does the salt naturally contain them, or was they added?
I’m glad you spoke about this because I discovered this info before I started carnivore and I have cut back on salt a lot due to it making me feel sick.
A few months ago I did a heavy metal challenge test and found that I had high lead and less high mercury. My main salt for years was Redmonds and some Celtic. I recents switched to Diamond and Jacobsen.
Any feedback on microplastic analysis on these salts? One of the biggest reasons Redmond's was recommended for a while was its lack of microplastics. So curious if these salts you are recommending with low heavy metals may in fact have high microplastics?
Can you do another discussing the mineral content of these salts? I know minerals are super important in salt.
So lots of heavy metals in them, but are they still better than table-salt? And how about the minerals in them, do you think the minerals are 'worth' the extra intake of heavy metals? How about minerals in the Jacobsen and Diamond?
Babe, wake up. Adult Butters posted another food warning.
I use Redmond salt exclusively
Thank you! Will you test them for microplastics? Watching this space.
