Just recently discovered AURORA recently but I have watched everything I can find of her and like many I am just mesmerized by her uniqueness voice originality and one of a kind performance talent. Not to mention her amazing writing ability. You are the first one I have seen that understands and gets her and the full meaning and genius of the seed.
So glad you discovered Aurora! Your reaction/analysis was so insightful. She truly is a master of sound. I believe that she is constantly recording interesting sounds that she encounters in her daily life and will often incorporate into her music. Something else you may notice (and I don't know if there is a technical name for this) is that she will paint pictures with the way she sings certain words - for example the way she sings "slow motion" at the beginning. You are in for quite a wonderful journey. Most songs from her first and second album I believe were written when she was quite young (some as young as 9 years old). They are beautiful yet sad and deeply insightful. Her later works reflect her growing maturity - like this one and also The River, Queendom and Daydreamer. She's only 24 years old, so I can't wait to see how she grows over the next few years!! She's the complete package - singer, songwriter, musician, producer, dancer, artist, choreographer and really wonderful human being. Her layers gives often more than just the base lyrics. She is like an open mind, soul and heart. She never disappointed us warrior and weirdos. One full length LP and two EP and way more and have never done a dull song. Hope you do more of our Queen. I subs for that. Real good reaction.
Part of that "layering" of her voice is her back-up singer, Silja Sol. Silja is also a fantastic singer/songwriter, and is part of Aurora's band. It is a complete mystery why Aurora is not so well known in the USA. She is very well known in Norway, in other European countries, and in some South American countries - notably Brazil. And, yes, if you follow her live performances, you will see that she always completely disappears into the song she is singing, often literally shaking herself out of it when it's over. She is one of a kind and so incredibly tuned in to our universal longings, sorrows, joys, etc. She speaks to all of it in song. The Apple Tree video is also as jaw-dropping as the song itself. It is also about the environment. The video if fierce and showcases her skills as a dancer and choreographer. The blood in it is, as she said, symbolic of the bleeding earth, the fierce determination to turn the destruction around and, at the end, the hope of rebirth.
I want to add that you have given a very comprehensive and insightful reaction here, and I look forward to more AURORA reactions! I think that Aurora is in a league of her own as both a singer and a songwriter! I strongly recommend reactions to her live performances, where she takes each of her songs to another level! To really understand aurora you have to look at her childhood,picture the lakes and forests of Norway as her playground and you can see how nature(Mother Earth) is so important to her and then add in the fact that as a child growing up her family never had a TV or radio,only an record player where she listened to Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohan both great wordsmiths in the art of music,it's then you can start to understand what makes this girl become the amazing artist she is today,and to think at the age of 6 she found an old Brocken piano and taught herself to play without being able to read music is astonishing,to then at the age of 9 write a song called Lucky which you must listen to its a masterpiece and by the age of 16 have enough songs for her first album.(all my demons greeting as a friend )WOW! She is so special,for me she is a GENIUS .As a lover of music all of my life, like most of you we all have at times enjoyed certain artists,the reasons for this can be many fold,but I can honestly say that at this moment in my journey no one has touched my emotions or moved me like this young artist from Norway and there is a reason for her to have a huge fan base all over the world. Warrior and Weirdo here. Subscribed to watch your Aurora journey. She is simply amazing live and there are a lot of great videos of her live including some fantastic concerts. At first you will react to individual songs but at some point you you should react to an entire concert. We fans like enjoy watching others experience an Aurora concert. Also don't be afraid to react to the same song in different performances. There are a few performances of the Seed, this one anger, warrior, others softer hopeful. Good review. Smartly done. This is the only official version of an Aurora song that you should ever listen to. Otherwise, everything else is a bunch better live. Just so you know. She is the best live performer I have ever seen. I mean that along all dimensions, the sound is better, the performance enchanting, and thus if you listen to her again, be sure to do a live one. Suggest the cathedral version of Lucky, Through the Eyes of a child (stripped version) and her Noble Peace Prize version of Murder Song.
She is most stunning live. But some of her studio recordings are too difficult to recreate fully live. Like: Infections of a different kind, The river, Exist for love, etc. An important part of her expression is her use of overdubs and harmonies (Enya'esc). Silja is amazing, but on some songs, it is too limited what only one backup voice can do.
