Hi Sophie! This is not a new trick, but my solution to this dilemma (how to stay on trend without sinking a fortune into the latest trendy bags) is to only buy classic bags in classic colors, and use accessories to make my overall look feel more on trend. For example, the trend for sparkly bags will no doubt go out of style and I don't want to be left with an expensive sparkly bag that is beautiful, but dated, so I will buy a fun bag charm that sparkles with Swarovski crystals and attach it to my bag. Voila! There's usually a trendy color way each year, so I might purchase a silk scarf instead of a new bag in the new color trend, and tie it on my classic bag. If bags with major hardware are trending, I will either buy a hardware charm to attach and give it some attitude, OR I'll make sure my jewelry hits the mark. If bags with pearls are trending, I'll wear a chain belt with pearls, or long pearl earrings. I do love all the bag trends (well, mostly), but I find occasionally an older bag style suits the occasion just perfectly and it's fun to take it off the shelf and wear it again. Have a wonderful Sunday evening, Sophie! ❤

People have to reduce their prices and relisting their items and they just don’t sell. I would love to see a video from you to talk about the vintage Chanel market in depth ❤ thanks 😊
I got a bag for £40 that is gorgeous and resembles the Chanel bag, I look after it and you can tell it can last years. Normal priced bags are sometimes better than Designer bags, not to mention affordable
I try to decide if I would buy the bag if I didn't know the brands status. If I decide it's ugly and if it was a $100 brand I wouldn't touch it I don't even consider thinking about buying it.
Trends come and go, but style is perennial. If it just so happens that your style coincides with a trend, then fantastic! If not? You'll still be stylish and fabulous! Have a great week, Sophie! 💖 xx
I don't think the Chanel classic flap is out of style, the issue with this is the price, way overpriced. The Dior saddle bag, yes I bought this years ago when it first came out. I used it a lot but would never buy again. I have never liked the Chanel boy bag or gabrielle bag. I think the Prada crystal bags are a trend but if you love them then buy one. I'm older so I stay away from trends.
Yes I agree. It's not the style that makes it "dated" People are just no longer prepared to pay the money Chanel is charging. I officially tapped out in early 2021 after I paid $9000 AUD for my classic flap. I still love Chanel bags but I can't justify the cost now
@@niko4305 Yes I did use this bag a lot many years ago. It is just not a style I would buy now, the Lady Dior would be something I would look at buying now. I think it was something new back when I bought it but I would not buy again. I bought this bag when it first came out many years ago.
I would add Gucci Marmont to the "out of style"-list. IMO it was never "in style", I just don't get the appeal sorry. I just find it cheap looking. For bags "on the way up" I hope that Bvlgari's bags will get more attention. So beautiful, classic looking and great quality.
Yesssss…..I never understood the appeal with the marmot line…the waves and the heart in the back with big ugly hardware! Bvlgari bags are elegant but that snakehead closure just creeps me out! If t wasn’t for that, I would be buying them.
In my opinion there is too much emphasis on big brand bags like Chanel etc. There are brands like Bvlgari and Ferragamo that make wonderful classic bags that are superior in the quality department. I think people are slowly beginning to realise that these brands have a lot to offer and have the heritage behind them. Elegance and class dont have to shout with logos. Only my opinion...💖
Lately I've been mainly looking for bags from French fashion houses that you don't see everywhere. Their quality is excellent, the models and colors are classic, and their prices are reasonable. I have a few handbags from big brands, but I'm slowly changing my collection to more special and high quality handbags.
I keep all my bags because I like them. I'm not really influenced by trends even if when some bags looks outdated, they are not desirable. For me it's important to make a difference between "OUTDATED" and "OUT OF STYLE". The first one is more related to the design and the latter to the popularity. I still wears my Chanel Mademoiselle bags from 2011. About Chanel bags, I think the 2.55, the Classic and the Boy will remain classics. But of course no bags stays that long without periods when it's less in style. Even the Birkin and the Kelly that are super-popular now were really seen as old-ladies bags when I was younger. We see 20 years old girls wanting them now but it wasn't the case 15/20 years ago. I think the success of Vintage Chanel will always maintain the desirability of current Chanel.
I totally feel the same way with the Hermes bit. Every influencer and socialite has one (or a collection of). And it’s all over social media. Doesn’t feel as exclusive as before
I think it's a good perspective to keep in mind that if you're after a trend, you might be disappointed a year or two later, so it helps in decision making when you throw that money down. Whatever your taste is, going with what you suits your style personality is the most important.
I feel like out of style and popularity are not exactly the same. Chanel flaps aren't as popular now because of the price yes, but they are still relevant and looks chic when styling with outfits. Honestly for Hermes kelly they don't look in style to me they are just popular now. I would probably just buy birkin kelly for work only, they are more suitable as work bags imho. Great video as always! ❤️
Hi Sophie ! I think that a Chanel classic flap or a Dior saddle bag are still cool but in medium or small sizes . If I took seriously what is trendy or not on social media regarding handbags ( as we viewers are happy to own one we love and simply walk down the street carrying them ) I would not have my mini collection of vintage Chanel , the collection you own as well and clearly enjoy .
I much prefer Chanel bags over Hermes. You can't compare the styles. Chanel has a much more dressy appearance than Hermes. I would never wear a Hermes to a wedding. Stick to vintage Chanel and you will never go wrong.
I am a total vintage Chanel fan! I do have a Boy bag and love her, but I love the quality of the leather and the 24kt plated hardware on the vintage pieces.
A classic bag like the Chanel classic flap will never go out of style no matter price increases IMO. Social media is all about trends, people who rarely have a style of their own and everybody is just following the herd. So uninteresting. You have to find your own style, what you like and what looks good on you. Not just buy for the moment. Especially as you grow older you should be more confident. I loved the boy bag when it first came out but over the years I've fallen out of love with it and wanted the classic flap instead. I don't like the double flap though and contrary to everybody on social media I prefer the jumbo and maxi size. Found a couple of single flap beauties on the preloved market in great condition that I just love. I do find the boy bag to look dated now; too bulky and boxy, that big clasp on the front. They could update it a bit IMO. Make the clasp smaller so it looks more proportional (like the boy wallet on chain), do something new to the chain and smooth the corners a bit perhaps.
I’m someone who just buys bags that I love. That being said, if I’m constantly thinking of a bag that has gone out of trend…. Lucky me, I can find it on the preloved market for less money 😂
Me too!!! I still love the boy bag also. Espec jn the chevron. Id carry that over a Chanel 22 Good lord! There are jusr as many people that knock the seasonal bags which is what I guess she is describing.
Me too! I’m usually slow to decide if I like something, so when I finally decide to go for it, it’s “out” of style 😂 I have no problem with it because I also find great deals preloved!
I basically agree with your opinion on each bag you presented (but friends can agree to disagree on some things 😊)…what I do is only buy bags I love and I can see with the clothing I like to wear and how I wear things. Then if they are out of style I don’t really care. Which isn’t to say that strategy hasn’t led me astray. I have one or two just hideous bags that I would never pull out again (my husband and I used to have a nice wine dinner then go shopping 😂) About 95% of my collection though I truly love. On trend or not. Cheers!
Ooh, I hope the Chloe tote gets trendy! I’ve had my eye on it for a year but I haven’t seen many second hand. I’ll wait for it to go out of style again and pick it up 😂
I think anything can be in style with the right outfit combination. I still carry my Chloe Paddington from time to time and it gets complimented as much as my newer bags 🤷🏻♀️
I think the small “bags” are a slick move by Chanel since I don’t think you can completely consider them “actual” full functioning bags. I think it is to get people that were pushed away at the higher price point to consider these “lower” priced bags as a good deal to jump on.
I feel like a lot of these designer items lose their appeal through the "dupe" & "counterfeit" markets. You go to a high street store and notice luxury inspired "dupes" and think "ja I'll pass..." or "Meh...". I see lots of Chanel inspired "dupes" fairly often when I go shopping. Recently I purchased a Chanel handbag for US50.00. at an antique/thrift store. My first thought was "Is this real?" It has "Chanel" written all over it and has signs of wear. Honestly not worth the price. Luxury fashion is becoming unsustainable now. IMO.
Great video, and you are right with every bag. I do think the pre-loved companies are charging too much now, because they don’t give you much for your own bags when you want to sell to them.
I’ve always thought the jumbo looks like a granny bag but I like it anyway. The price really is absolutely insane though. And I just can’t with the saddle bag. 😂 I still remember how you went from despising it to loving it and I could only watch in horror. It’s an abomination and I absolutely love hating it, it never fails to make me laugh. 😄
I still love the Chloe drew bag. I think Drew matches my style well haha. The Chloe book tote bag... just my own opinion, I think it will go out of style quickly. It seems not a timeless design.
Agree ! Been contemplating Chloe tote and Prada crystal bag… gonna do Chloe and admire Prada Jumbo flap no way Coco top handle yes! Both classics, but the smaller more modern silhouette I like Fun video Thx for code.😊
I think it’s a really great tiny/mini bag. I still love my boy woc. The WOC looks great against any body bc it’s flatter than a protruding classic flap. I just think that in this current market, for the price that the WOCs are, people are saving that money towards flaps or other brands (less expensive) WOC. Which is why it’s probably less talked about.
I’d like to hear your thoughts on the brand new Mugler spiral bags, I know they’re not very popular in the handbag world yet, but i think they’re trying to become a big competitor. I especially love the metallic one!
Hey Mitchell, I hope you’re having a great new year! I’ve not heard of these bags but I appreciate you sharing them with me, thank you. I’ll check them out on Google now!xx
I need some help! Should i buy a pre loved diorever mini? What do you reckon? I love the style, but i am a bit scared because it was discontinued. Or should I go for the ysl sac de jour mini? Thanks, any help will be appreciated 💖
I have heard that bag prices on the secondary market are beginning to drop? Your thoughts Sophie? I still like the Boy Bag in the smaller sizes. Not the large ones. Thank you for the video! Have a fabulous week!
I like the idea of this video but I don't necessarily agree with the styles you mentioned. I feel the bags 'out of style' are the Gucci Marmont, Balenciaga anything, Chloe bags of past seasons, Diorama range from Dior and other such styles. Most of what you mentioned are classics and will never be out of style. Yes the Dior saddle bag and Book tote may not have the hype that they had but that's for anything - the hype is always in the initial year/few years after launch and then there's a stability to the style or a decline. As for social media, I think that the most stylish people and true lovers of fashion have now realised that styles are being pushed on us through influencers that are being paid to carry certain bags more than others. So we need to have our own sense of what looks good on us, not just blindly follow corporate profit-earning tactics!! As for what's going up, yes vintage for sure but also the desire for styles and brands that are under the radar and not everyone has seen them. I love my Chanel bags for special occasions but I also love carrying Polene bags that don't have logos, are great quality and people always ask what I'm carrying.
Hmmm I never really ever saw many people wearing the Chanel Gabrielle so wasn't aware it was in style, but I wish it was, it looks good! Agree on Boy and Dior's xx
I think you might had bad luck with some quality issues in the Chanel Boy bags you got. I absolutely adore them, I have a few in mini, medium, and large sizes, and never had an issue. As Im moving countries my things are in storage and I just have 2 handbags with me, so for the last 3 months I have been using a medium Boy bag pretty much every single day, with everything and more I can fit inside it, and the bottom didn't sag at all, its shape and structure is exactly the same as 3 months ago, no damage at all. But there is a detail, I always use them cross-body or shoulder with full length, I never double the chain to be shorter and under my arms, so I kind of never squeeze it that way. The Dior book tote is also very good, I carry tons on mine, laptop included, and it holds like new without any sign of damage.
I agree with all of your sentiments on this video. Esp classic flaps declining in popularity due to price. I was in Chanel last week and told my SA, “I’m done with the classic flaps because the price is ridiculous.” He agreed! I’m now interested in other styles from Chanel that are still “reasonable” like the coco handle, businesses affinity, etc.
Although the price of a classic flap is high in the boutique, people still manage to resell them for more. That is why I still buy from the boutique in the US instead of preowned.
Chanel classics will always be there. i think they have already proven this since they are still here and being sold and always the ‘sought after’… i think the only challenge is the price 💰💵💸
I read the 2023 forecast trending for designer handbag was square structured shape and it included the Chanel flaps the hobo relax bags are out for 2023
Chanel in general, is “out of style” for me, thanks to their price increases. The seasonal bags that echo the classics feel hollow and the extremely shiny caviar feels cheap. I’m much more interested in Celine, Loewe, and Saint Laurent. I think those are the brands I’ll be following this year.
Sometimes when I see the EURO or POUND I have to remind myself I'm Canadian. I wish I could say a Dior book tote is 2,500 CAN instead I say 5000. 😪It hurts.
I’m kind of late to the party on this discussion, but I would imagine that for the price of Hermes bag, the modern woman wants options. The Kelly has both a handle and a shoulder strap and possibly a crossbody. Much more versatile and functional. Just my opinion, but it is more elegant than a Birkin. The Birkin is a rather masculine heavy bag that resembles a briefcase more than a handbag. Also, it only has a handheld or crook of the arm option. Not very practical in these times.
I've never heard of or seen the Chloe Drew bag, but I can see why it's going out of style: It looks very similar to Celene box bag that people like. Neither are my cup of tea, personally; I think the large lock is a bit much--I feel similarly about the large "Chloe" logo on the tote--but the bag shapes are really nice. I'm also not too surprised to see the Chanel classic flap on here, though, or to hear your perspective that the Hermes Kelly is gaining on the Birkin. Both brands charge exorbitant prices; imo no luxury bag is worth more than about $3-6K with tax (depending on the size, material, and availability), let alone the $8-10K prices they have today. The price gauging feels extremely snobby and classist. I understand that they want this air of exclusivity and mystery, but the way they've priced out interested consumers feels really dirty and uninviting to me.
Chanel’s prices are too much for the fair quality they are producing. Since Karl Lagerfeld’s passing, I think Chanel has lost some of it’s cache. I always thought the Chanel bags looked like something an older lady would carry to church. I don’t understand the popularity of the Chanel classic bags among very young women flexing on social media.
It's funny that I was SUPER offended looking at the title. After watching you made it clear to take it with a grain of salt and that this is your opinion. It's just a discussion, and I was open to all your opinions! Now I need to go watch your video on boy bags because I just got one after the price increase, and I'm obsessed!
I think every item that is circulated around social media and pushed by big brands will eventually "die off" as those items are replaced by other new items. It's a cycle, designed to encourage people to spend. Personally I love every bag you have mentioned and if I owned any of them I would absolutely keep wearing them well into the future. ^^ .. except for the saddle bag. Still looks like a kidney to me haha!! :))
I just talked with one of my friends in fashion industry and she said buying bag is not worth for investment anymore. The market already flooded with luxury bags. She advised me to collect watches instead.
I don’t think paying thousands on a bag is reasonable at anytime or for any bag but I have . I love both my classic flaps, would I pay the price they’re at now? Well it’s easy to say no when you have them 🤷🏼♀️ Honestly I think still would because when I payed whatever I did at the time it still felt a lot of money ❤
I never will be able to afford luxury bags or anything luxury really but the whole thing with Hermes is ridiculous to me. Is like they do you a favor for selling a bag? Yes they're pretty but there are so many pretty luxury brands that you can buy from. For me is just a marketing trick to make you want it more because is "exclusive" but at the end of the day, every influencer has them. No shade, just my honest opinion.
Hi Sophie! I just wear what I like instead of being manipulated by the fashion industry. Otherwise, it just seems so wasteful.
I love the Kelly, but the price is unjustifiable. And I would NEVER play Hermès’s game. Begging to drop thousands 🙄
English brand LILY&BEAN have a dupe different colours and the canvas Chanel styles which you can have initials
It's not the style that makes it "dated"
People are just no longer prepared to pay the money Chanel is charging. I officially tapped out in early 2021 after I paid $9000 AUD for my classic flap. I still love Chanel bags but I can't justify the cost now
You said you used it a lot but why would you not buy the Dior saddle again?
@@niko4305 Yes I did use this bag a lot many years ago. It is just not a style I would buy now, the Lady Dior would be something I would look at buying now. I think it was something new back when I bought it but I would not buy again. I bought this bag when it first came out many years ago.
@@niko4305 The shape of the bag is not the best either.
I have 2 Lady Dior bags, but the Saddle is going to be my next purchase. Strangely enough but it grew on me just recently.
Anything Chanel is never out of style, fashion and style is subjective. None of these are out of style to me. Money doesn't go out of style
@@654ujala Ha ha I don't like snakes either but in this case I can make an exception. Kurt Geiger bags are more creepy IMO with that bird head.
I have been wearing sparkle for decades and will continue to wear sparkle, so the crystal bags will always been in for me.
I want to go to your gym where a Dior book tote is the norm. WHAT?!! I hope they provide nice towels 😆
I don’t care if my tote is outdated! Im wearing this sucker until it falls apart!
I have that Chloe tote bag and I love it. Their bags are so well made and you’re not breaking the bank!😊
The Chanel classic flap bag is timeless, but the price is ridiculous high.
Pink is truly your color. Absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you my friend! It’s my favourite colour 😋❤️xx
On Instagram it seems like every young influencer has an Hermes Bag and it’s really put me off wanting one xx
I personally think the chanel classic flaps look quite matronly now. I sold my jumbo a couple years ago, but the minis are quite cute!
Should have kept it and tucked it in the back of your closet. Your tastes will change through the decades. Hang on to timeless pieces.
@@gracem6943 I'm sure it will always be available to purchase if that is the case!
@@asunbeam5479 yea for 10000 dollars
Oooooh i LOOOOVE Vintage Chanels. Most of my Chanel Bags are from the 90s and they look fab and amazing . Ty for sharing 💖💖💖💖 14:51
Hi Sophie!!!! I always loved Kelly bag much more than the Birkin... So chic!!!!!
I feel so uninspired by fashion atm. There’s no bag that I really want or admire 😢
Check out Alexander Mcqueen! I bought the curve bag and love it😍
Good your saving money
Girl u gotta go to the old school classics. The bags that were popular from 2013 to 2017
I basically agree with your opinion on each bag you presented (but friends can agree to disagree on some things 😊)…what I do is only buy bags I love and I can see with the clothing I like to wear and how I wear things.
Beckham wore the Dior saddle leather bag lately at his wife's fashion show pretty well and I was instantly attracted to it 😍
Agree ! Been contemplating Chloe tote and Prada crystal bag… gonna do Chloe and admire Prada
Jumbo flap no way
Coco top handle yes!
Both classics, but the smaller more modern silhouette I like
Fun video
Thx for code.😊
What do you think about Chanel Wallet on Chain? It was really hot for a while but not sure if people are still buying it?
I think it’s a really great tiny/mini bag. I still love my boy woc.
The WOC looks great against any body bc it’s flatter than a protruding classic flap.
I just think that in this current market, for the price that the WOCs are, people are saving that money towards flaps or other brands (less expensive) WOC. Which is why it’s probably less talked about.
I think the mini kelly has peaked, even though it's still popular, it's definitely easier to get offered/get ahold of than it was a couple years ago.
❤️❤️❤️ Heading to London in the beginning of March and I can’t WAIT to go to Harrods!
The Prada bag is a trend for sure
I really like the Chanel small hobo in the new Spring collection. It looks cool and fun. Otherwise I find Chanel extremely boring and old fashioned. 😴
Agree on Boy and Dior's
xx
i love the dior book tote...i'd love to have my name embroidered on it so it's mine forever
I just picked up my Kelly 28 retourne yesterday and I am
IN LOVE 🧡 !!!
It’s the Hermes picotin that’s really on the rise
I agree with all of your sentiments on this video. Esp classic flaps declining in popularity due to price. I was in Chanel last week and told my SA, “I’m done with the classic flaps because the price is ridiculous.” He agreed! I’m now interested in other styles from Chanel that are still “reasonable” like the coco handle, businesses affinity, etc.
I think the Marcie Chloe bag will never die because it’s the perfect bag for anyone who doesn’t check on instagram constantly.
I read the 2023 forecast trending for designer handbag was square structured shape and it included the Chanel flaps the hobo relax bags are out for 2023
Meanwhile, I want a Dior Book bag and a Chanel Boy in 2023. I don’t care if they’re uncool, I just love how effortless they are.
The prices of vintage Chanel are now competitive with Chanel's seasonal bag. But the quality is better (?) so perhaps it's worth it.
Sometimes when I see the EURO or POUND I have to remind myself I'm Canadian. I wish I could say a Dior book tote is 2,500 CAN instead I say 5000. 😪It hurts.
Same here :) When I see Pound I wish it was USD.
Same bought here! The prices converted into CAD are outrageous 😂
Try converting AUD to pounds. It's depressing.
The tweed chanel bags are soooo cuteeeee
Thanks, Sophie! Love your insights!!💕💕💕💕
I agree with you on the Chanel Classic Flap & Dior Book Tote - PASS
Love that pink sweater 💗
It's funny that I was SUPER offended looking at the title. After watching you made it clear to take it with a grain of salt and that this is your opinion. It's just a discussion, and I was open to all your opinions! Now I need to go watch your video on boy bags because I just got one after the price increase, and I'm obsessed!
Hey Monica! Ahh, honestly - no offence intended at all! Lord knows I own many questionable items lol 😭😅 Enjoy your bag my friend!xx
I would never take a designer bag into a moldy gym locker!
I wish you showed us the bags you have as you spoke about them 🙏🏼🎀👍🏼
Hi Sophie, you bought recently the Celine belt? The small or big one? And are you satisfied?
Regards
Hello lovely!! Yes I bought the thinner version, it’s excellent quality! Xx😊❤️
@@SophieShohetOfficial thank you
I don’t think paying thousands on a bag is reasonable at anytime or for any bag but I have .
I love both my classic flaps, would I pay the price they’re at now? Well it’s easy to say no when you have them 🤷🏼♀️
Honestly I think still would because when I payed whatever I did at the time it still felt a lot of money ❤
