I grew up in New Mexico, about 40 minutes from the border. I have not a drop of Latina blood, but this and Halloween are my favorite holidays. I Love that Halloween is just about having fun, and then the next day, Dia de Los Muertos, is about Honoring our ancestors. The absolute best time of year, no other holiday season comes close for me. I hope no one minds me borrowing the tradition - it's just so beautiful and I'm so grateful I was able to grow up in a community that celebrated it. I live in the northeast now, and its severely lacking out here - people definitely think I am morbid (and maybe I am, for other reasons; but in all, I think we are all so close to death, it's healthy to interface with it directly). Thank you so much for the wonderful video explaining some cultural history and giving great instructions for a gorgeous look!

Great idea about using light foundation! Last year my makeup for Día de Los Muertos came out really streaky for using the Halloween makeup store of white face paint :( I’ll definitely try this idea for this time around though :)

We are in the process of moving to SoCal and I want to drive down and participate in next year‘s dear them were those at Hollywood forever. As a person who doesn’t wear make up at all on the regular. Your video totally had me feeling confident that I could re-create this look or something similar with my own preferred color palette. So congratulations for being able to be concise and thorough and yet give your viewers the confidence that they could re-create this look! I just wanted to ask though, as someone who doesn’t wear make up, but knows enough to recognize that many of the products you used are on the higher end, do you find that the quality of the make up affects the outcome of the Calavera? I’d hate to invest in that kind of money and only be able to do this for one or two nights a year. Thoughts?

I don't know if you know this, but there are white foundations out there or you could use white concealer for the rest of your face. I picked up white foundation on Amazon for around $6 and white concealer on shopmissa.com for $1 each.

Definitely! I would just switch the colored eye shadows around from shades of purple to shades of red. Maybe try reds/pinks to get more of a transition from dark to light.

Not at all! I prefer to use eyelash glue for this because it’s not too sticky on the skin. They were actually very easy to remove, and at the same time, secure enough to stay on for a while if you needed them to 👍🏽
A coworker asked me what Dia De Los Muertos was and I told him it was sort of like a Mexican Memorial Day for your loved ones instead of it being patriotic in nature.

I just used a little bit of eyeshadow for that part! I recommend taking a dark grey or black eyeshadow and with a light hand add a little shading. 😊

Lash glue will definitely work! I used lash glue to stick my rhinestones on and it worked perfectly. 😊

Amber Green you can buy this online, and you might be able to find it in Ulta stores - I would try checking there. If not, any very pale or white foundation from the drugstore would work 👍🏽

Not at all! I prefer to use eyelash glue for this because it’s not too sticky on the skin. They were actually very easy to remove, and at the same time, secure enough to stay on for a while if you needed them to 👍🏽
