When you could get in to Glasto by jumping over the hedge. No spoilt little rich kids or mass media coverage, no has beens turning up with their goatie beards dyed purple (Tom Jones). Decent Moroccan hash too. I didn't go to this gig. I was at home learning how to play these songs. Proper love Tim's guitar work, cool geezer too. Martha's Harbour? It took me ages to get that song right but oh man...Heaven. 👏👏👏💖💖💖👍👍👍
one of the most underrated bands of UK rock history. No , I do not exaggerate. I blame their management and record company for poor promotion and not pushing them out there far much more. I noticed someone already commented on this and I totally agree with them. With bigger promotion they would have been massive. Ironically they have world cult status and major respect and honour especially among fellow musicians like me. Another serendipitous fact is, on the day of this gig I got interviewed and accepted to train to be a Nurse. 31 years later, I'm still playing music, guitar, bass, keyboard and singing. And a Senior Nurse and occasionally covering the odd AAE number. Shame my musical career didn't flesh out as well as my Nursing career did. But, both paths demand a very High level of commitment and dedication. Alas, I couldn't have it both ways. Anyway, from all whom you have touched our hearts and souls, Thank you most deeply to All About Eve
Amazing and true words. Prob one of the best live bands I had the luck and honour to see . As for your chosen path thank you and what a deeper mess we would be in now without people like you.🙏🙏
Apologies. Maybe I was not thinking practically and listening to the music press and internet comments without taking a moment to think and remember you were there ! 😀 We as fans were just very sad and upset at what happened to y'all. As a very young man and musician I was inspired by you and influenced a lot of my playing and helped me find my own niche and mode of creative writing/songwriting. Thanks so much. My appreciation for your work goes beyond words. I hear you're teaching now too. Brilliant. Bless you for your support for our profession. Take care. Especially these days. @@JulianneReganMusic There is a need. You must have heard some real nonsense said over the years ! And I can't believe I'm actually talking to you. I'm so shaky like a boy again. Sorry 😅🎸🎸 You made an old 54 year old man very happy. Thank you so much for your replies and your nice support for us Nurses. Means a lot. Please stay well and may peace and joy find you Julianne xx
Thank you for posting this. I never got the privilege of seeing them live. I don't even think they ever came to play in California where I'm from. All the live footage I've been able to find seems to always be in the UK. I was instantly hooked the moment i saw the Martha's Harbour video in the mid-/late-80's. I love all their albums and literally wore out my Scarlet & Other Stories cassette.
Still slightly smug that I pulled the mono audio track that sounded a bit like the mud the fans were standing in, up to a decent level. Great show, and this with the amazing source of video... a happy summers evening watch every year.
AAE always a brilliant live band with beautiful song smith and performer Julianne Regan the jewel in the crown. A unique, talented and so underrated part of our musical history and a band you could never pigeon hole. AAE lasted longer than some musical outfits with four superb albums, but should have with better support and promotion gone on to be world famous. So many beautiful songs with Ultraviolet being a classic album. This is a musical gem with excellent audio quality even if the visual is a bit iffy. "I will be back"
This is the first time I have seen this footage. I was actually at Glastonbury in 1989 but for some reason, I have no idea why we missed All About Eve! So, thanks for uploading this.👍
What a pleasant musical memory of the good old days. Thanks to Mark, Travisbickle1963 and Arthur for bringing this to us, and eternal thanks to Julianne for the inspiration to last a lifetime.
Ahh, lovely to see this. Still think some of the most interesting things to have happened on guitars have happened because of these guys. Uniquely brilliant.
Brilliant! Best band ever. I love the surreptitious 'dirty trucker's gear change' in 'Wild Hearted Woman'. Easy to do clumsily, very hard to do with this much class. Thanks guys for posting this. I feel very lucky to have been 'in' on this from the beginning in 1986 and it's still a massive part of my life even though as a band, it's over. I loved the second life of AAE with the Acoustic gigs in the Noughties and thought they were really at their best when they imploded for the second and final time. It's a massive shame that some of those amazing 'second period' songs will never be properly recorded and released. I need to get me a guy who hands me my guitars live too.
Thanks for sharing. Such a great live band as well as in the studio. I miss AAE even more now. 😥 We need them back to cheer us up..(even if some of their songs can be a bit sombre). If this was a fan video they did very well. This would have been pre digital camera era I think. I seem to remember video cameras in 1989 were quite big !
Nice remix the vocals & guitar come over really nicely, Tim Bricheno is still one of my all time idols superb guitarist & songwriter As a young dope smoking aspiring guitarist the first 2 AAE albums wove a magick that was very precious ✨✨💚💖
Anyone pining for the ethereal beauty of Julianne's vocals might consider accessing the track 'Starstruck Eyes' by Mark Thwaite from 2016( with JR taking lead vocal !) ..currently only 33 views!!
@@dunjica77 Thanks for this d..I wasn't even aware that JR has her own channel.!!...the power of the link up via RUclips eh?! I will ,of course, look forward to listening to the new material!! Regards KS
I'm always hopeful that other rare gems might suddenly appear. Did anyone do a sneaky crowd video of Cropredy Festival the same year? I can't help feeling that one show from the Scarlet Tour must have been recorded for a possible live video... Nobody film the Royal Albert Hall shows?
Saw them live for the second time shortly after this gig, at Sheffield City Hall. Unfortunately Julianne's voice gave up after about half an hour and that was the end of that show, which was a shame. Still love their sound though all these years later.
I saw them in Liverpool Royal Court on the same tour, 3 days before the Sheffield gig, and she had the same problem. Gave it some serious effort for half an hour, but it was obvious she was struggling (even then, she still sounded better than 90% of other vocalists). They rescheduled about a month later, and it was epic.
Thank you to whomever for cleaning up the audio on this. 30000 thumbs up!
Whoever remixed this audio from the original source did a bloody good job. Well done.
Thanks - that was me... :)

Honestly, our management wasn't at fault. We have to shoulder some of the blame ourselves. Thanks for being a nurse. Undervalued and underpaid, sadly.
