Congratulations. It looks really good. Even with the black parts. Perhaps you can burn or print "JPL" as a logo at the end of the body. I would love to have a pen. (Especially if you can custom make them... ) Oh ... and welcome back.
It is just a pleasure to an “artist,” with his work. Obsess over how to keep making your own, therefore unique art. While I have not purchased many Franklin-Christoph pens, you could be one of the next generation of art-loving, eye-for-refined-design pen creators. And, as one old, retired professor, I assure you that what you are doing sets you apart as a special student, one who has a vision for the real. Blessings in the journey! I too love the red/black combination. K
The black in the middle is very attractive and distinctive. This is a very impressive pen. You should be very pleased with it. I will be watching for when you decide to make pens and sell them! I like the eyedropper-possible design too! Great job!
Thankyou, the black ring has relly grown on me and I will be keeping it, but changing the section slightly. Ill make an update next week about making more.
You have every right to be proud of your handmade custom pen. Personally, I'm very fond of cigar shaped pens and think the contrast of the black and red is extremely attractive and gives the pen character. All in all, a really nice job. Thank you for sharing.
What. Is. Up?! So glad to have you back and to hear you’ve still been exercising your creative muscle. I’ve never touched ebonite. I’m fairly new to the game. Lol hope you’re well. Keep us posted on your adventures. Peace, Love, and Happiness!
Excellent work, JPL! Simplicity and elegance (and usefulness) on a writing instrument. I think that you should go and launch your pens in the market, if they are not lauched yet. Congrats!
A beautiful and satisfying endeavor, way to go that's a beautifully designed pen. I'm looking forward to seeing your future incarnations. Keep on with the work, you have the right to be proud of yourself!
Late to the party here but I think it's beautiful! I love ebonite, and the black section and band looks great with the smooth red body. Hope you've continued to make more pens!
Greetings from Katy Texas!! Impressive Job!! I do enjoy unique hand crafted anything. I humbly suggest you name it the JPL Prelude. I’m sure I would enjoy writing with it. I’ll definitely write with it if I see it o the market. Hope to see more of your videos. Good luck!!!
Wow. This is great! It's so nice seeing you progress steadily through different levels of pen making, and I dare say it's been a life-long endeavor so far. I would definitely like to get one of your pens when you are able, so put me on your list. I am of the eye-dropper (actually syringe) filling method type, so I am always interested in that design of pen. Here is to the JPL Pen Making Co. to be!
Hey, I was wondering if you could do a review of a pilot metro as a way to provide context for these other reviews. Since the metro is such a popular pen, I'd be nice to see your opinions of it and how it compares to the other budget pens out there. Also, keep up the great work! these videos are pretty cool.
Great Video and great looking pen. I am sure you could sell your ebonite hand made pens. I was eyeing up one of the Namisu ebonite pens but your pen looks much nicer.
I am definitely interested in obtaining a pen, so put me on the list. And as I have said before, I love the eye dropper method of filling the pen (although I always go for the syringe method, lol).
That’s a gorgeous pen! I love the black bare ebonite strip. Wonderful work! I’d buy one. I think it’s gorgeous! You should be very proud and pleased. I think you’d have a long list of orders! What did you get yourself into?
Hello. As a fellow pen lover/machinist I would like to give you some suggestions. First of all there are a lot of quality and colorfull ebonite coming from India, on eBay you can check ranga pens and he is also selling ebonite rod stock. Also a good trick to get a nice surface finish off the lathe is to use support Center and this also helps with accuracy especially on flexible material like this. Also you could have make it more seamless by 1:letting some spare material for additional adjustment 2:making two mandrels (making them out of ebonite wouldn't be a bad idea) and placing the pen between them(effectively maching it between centers)and sanding or machining it so it wouldn't have so much of a dimensional differences. Also that will let you get it to a polished finish without the need for lacquer (which breaks, burns and yellows). This gen 1 pen looks pretty good but I think that you can improve upon it.Some flat or conned tops and bottoms wouldn't be bad😉😉.The Edison ebonite is nice example. Chrisup has a nice one.
I can tell you are very proud of this pen and you should be. Great job! Keep making pens and let me know if you are going to sell them. MARK FROM ARKANSAS!
How much for the Ebonite Red and the range of nibs? Stubs, Oblique mediums? The black fountain pen with a red ring I bought from you is still working. A red partner fountain pen would be good.
I am impressed with your new design. Your best so far! I think the positive comments on here suggest there is definitely a demand. I was thinking you have 6K subscribers. If only 1% of your subscribers placed an order you'd be very busy for many weeks to come. Have you any thoughts of adding a clip? I wonder if you have worked out how best to make a clip and how it would attach to the cap? I think it would be nice to see the pen in other colours as well. I am very happy for you. The pen is delightful.
Thankyou David, you are so kind. I have thought of adding a clip, and I modelled a pen with a clip on solidworks but I don't think it looks as good with a clip. I might have to add a roll stop to it as a result.
Congratulations, it looks great. The colour combination is awesome, as is the form factor. Will you be adding a clip or one of those ring things to stop it rolling around? Is the feed ebonite as well? I've been looking into doing the same thing. They have lathes available at your U? Obviously we can see the appeal. It's probably worth trying out for some extra cash and experience points.
Thankyou so much. I made a model of the pen with a clip in solidworks and I think the clip made it look worse. Ill probably add a roll stop or a pen pillow to stop it rolling around. The feed here is not ebonite, I tried to find a nib unit that was ebonite but I couldn't find one and you need to use a nib unit for kitless pens. it is great fun doing this, lathes are great. I have been using the lathe at my uni for some pens but I recently bought my own to use at home.
Nice pen, nice work. The truly interesting thing for me, though, would be to see the actual making of the pen. Otherwise, speaking for me, what is the point?
@@jpl2475 Ok, fair enough, but still it seems like you want to show the world that you can do this, while making sure that you keep all the important secrets to yourself. I was looking for a more detailed presentation. But that's just me. Thank you for the reply.
Well I had two options, a metal lathe or wood lathe. A metal lathe gives me precision but a wood lathe is better for making curves. I chose a metal lathe and have to have a few attachments for using wood tools, but it gives me great accuracy for making threads. The lathe I got was a sieg c3 for about $800 plus about $400 in tooling
The pen looks awesome - I always wanted to try and make an ebonite pen, I think I will give it a go - How did you get the screw-threads done? Looks really great 👍
Nice video mate, I have a question. If you take cost out of the equation completely; Wing Sung 3008 or 698? If context matters, I’m a uni student and will use it mostly for note taking
@@jpl2475 Well this would be to support you and to have a memento i would get an orange version of the pen in a medium. Let me know when you start making them and etc. You might as well call it the JPL Model 1 or something. I guess if you were to do a small business it would have to be a different name anyway.
Hey guys please let me know if you think I should make a few more of these pens :)
Definitely make more and be creative with the colours. Love the simplicity of the pen :D
Makes me want one :p
You can be so proud. I wish I could build something so cool.
I would love to be able to write with a handmade pen like this.
You sure should man
yes, please do, make one for me!!
Congratulations. It looks really good. Even with the black parts. Perhaps you can burn or print "JPL" as a logo at the end of the body. I would love to have a pen. (Especially if you can custom make them... ) Oh ... and welcome back.
The man, the myth, the legend. He's finally back 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Oh, and I think naming your pen the JPL Excel or JP Excel would be a nice play on words
It's a joy watching your adventures in pen manufacture. BRAVO!!
...introducing "JPL Red 1"
Marvellous pen 👍
Owning a JPL pen would be pretty cool, count me as interested.

Kudos to you from Michigan, I'm very proud of you, wow! You've got a great base if nothing else, build from there.
When are Goulet Pens going to carry this pen? Haha great job!

I just saw this pen on reddit! Didn't realize it was you! I adore this color! I also love how simple, yet iconic your design is!
Yeah that is me :) and thankyou
Very nice! I can see why you’re chuffed with it - lol. Love the red and black. I vote that you keep the black band, it’s a nice detail. I’ll buy one!
Thankyou, the red band has really grown on me too. I am glad you like it :)
Wow excellent work. Well done!
Cheers :)
I have one of these. Wonderful pen!!
I really love the simplicity!!! How easy it is to chuck in the converter and eyedrop this pen!
Consider some colourful acrylics. People love those. Good luck mate I think you can make living penmaking.
Beautiful pen.

Congratulations! Quite an accomplishment, especially doing it in ebonite.
Thankyou, ebonite was not as easy to work with as I thought it would be
The matte black unpainted version looks pretty stealth... Dig it!
Thankyou, matte ebonite looks surprisingly nice
Good on ya! This is a fantastic achievement. You can be proud of yourself. My compliments.
Congrats on making your first fountain pen. Looks good too.

Definately sell them!!! Etsy is excellent for ooak (one of a kind) items! I would love to buy one!
certainly will be :)
I own in black and use it a lot. I like it. I want a red one.
I am glad that you enjoy your pen, I'm currently looking into making another batch of similar pens with different nibs.
Wow I love that pen, and really would love to very my hands on a JPL mk1 or what you would call it. Kerp me in the loop!!
Pretty darn impressive! Maybe I missed it, but did you make the section and feed, too or are those parts available in the market place (like nibs)?
The section I made from an ebonite rod, the nib and feed are a standard bock 6 which I bought
Bravo young sir !!! A billionaire in the making👍👍👍
Create a video showing how you made the pen ... that would be awesome -
“Model 1” if it’s the first pen you truly are happy with.
Please sell one for me. It's soo fricking amazing. I am in Australia 🤩
Also investment on a Collett chuck will greatly improve your consistency
I saw this on Reddit earlier, I’ll say it again well done! 👏🏻
yep that was me :p
this is an amazing accomplishment, the step is intense but i like it, how do you even go about getting started?
GORGEOUS!!!
Nice looking pen
This is really fantastic. :)
I'd name it the JPL Rocket, because you get the NASA reference and the red colour makes me think of speed!
I'd buy a pen from you, but shipping to Canada would probably be quite expensive!
Can you make one with a cursive italic nib?
Landed here with the hope of seeing the making process.
Keep the black ring and no clip. Excellent job as always!!
certainly will :)
I want one, its a nice pen
Can u please tell me which ink is best for calligraphy writing
Marvellous pen bro :)
Fantastic!
Perhaps call it ...The JPL Sublime.
I was just thinking this morning...Where is JPL? Must have felt your energy...You're beaming in this video..Really wonderful. Good for you.

very good job for sure
