Do Horses Need Shoes?

  • Have you been wonder whether or not horses need to have shoes? Watch this video to find out!
    Horses’ hooves continuously grow like our finger nails, so none of this causes any pain for the horse. During this entire process you can see that the horse is very compliant. The shoe needs to be the right size for the horse. The farrier will shape the shoe to make sure it fits properly. Then the shoe is nailed on. Farriers need to know and understand the anatomy of the hoof to make sure they do everything the right way to not cause injury to the horse. After about 6 to 8 weeks the farrier will see the horse again to remove shoes and put new ones on.

      Sometimes, the shoes don't need to be replaced. If the horse hasn't been worked a lot and the shoes are in good shape, the farrier can remove the shoes, trim the hooves and then reset the shoes. With new nails, of course.

      Heyy! Let me tell you something. Horse shoes are especially needed on pavement. Im not sure if you're kidding or not. Shoes that humans wear are made of rubber or silicone on the bottom. Take a look at your shoes on the bottom and you can see the uneven ware. What do you think happens when you walk or especially run barefooted on pavement. Your skin will get torn up and scratched also dry. Pleaase don't be stupid or ignorant. Also don't try to dispute the facts. I really hope you understand and have common sense. Whoever told you horse shoes aren't needed on pavement is an idiot. Carriage horses that walk on pavement wear rubber between the hoofs and horse shoes. Please research and stop being cruel to your horse. Just because horses can't feel the ware and tare doesn't mean it's not harmful. You should have known better lady. Smh

    Most people in my city own horses that either stay in the city corrals or on their owners property. My friend's horse is having some problems with one of her back hooves however her horse is very sassy and stubborn so only one of the farriers available can care for the horse in a comfortable setting because the other are impatient and a bit pushy. Getting the farrier to come has been proving an issue as his list fills up when he comes back from his vacations and is unable to see the horse. The horse doesn't wear horseshoes as each hoof is a very different shape from the other. Both of us are concerned for the horse's well being but there's nothing we can do in this situation.

    I'm a pet expert too '_' I had over 50 pets (it's ok mostly fish!!!)I have had 2 bearded dragons 5 dogs 5 frogs 2 birds 2 hermit crabs 3 hamsters 1 turtle that's all I can think about now :/ I had about 20 fish though and a catfish also 5 crawfish (don't know how to spell it) about 10 fish and the catfish and crawfish lived outside in our pond so the crawfish bred so we had even more and the 10 gold fish were a couple inches long and lived for 10 years (because of how hey we're basically wild but we still cared for them by food and new water) but then the other 10 goldfish lived in doors, they only lived for like 3 years yet they had same amount of care but a little more frequent because there tank was smaller but we were able to remove them from the tank stress free while we cleaned it.
    stories:
    my catfish lived up to its name by killing and dragging birds underwater killing them.
    My dog jumped into the pond to catch a vole/muskrat (can't remember) killed it and brought it inside.
    I have raised/helped birds that fallen out of there nest because of there siblings in three years I helped 7 Robin's in all.( Birds have a terrible scene of smell, they only rely on sight and sound and will take them in no matter what)
    we caught the crayfish at the pond 11 years ago the original 5 are still alive, they are some children.
    1 hamster was a dwarf hamster named jingle bells she was grey and white with a long tail she bit me 28 times
    I had another hamster named Humphrey because he looked exactly like the hamster from the book his Nickname was cuddles he never bit me
    then we had another hamster Ivey who bit me 3 times she was completely grey with only pink nose and feet
    the hermit crabs died because they were old we bought them when they were old :/
    I doubt any of you read this whole thing.

    Interesting, always wanted to know. Like nails, makes sense. I'm glad Horses are not harmed, and wow every month and a half. I though maybe every 3 months. Cop horses probably 2-3 weeks.

    • @HappyTailsAnimals

      +Woofie Plays no, I would not support a practice that causes harm to animal.

      Woofie Plays no it doesnt hurt the horse the hoof is pretty much a giant finger nail and the metal nails put into the hoof isnt long enough nor should it be angled towards the inside of the hoof so its not painful in anyway

      saneman100 But in rigorous sports like eventing, horses need the traction of shoes when they gallop and jump over different kinds of terrain. Sure, there are a few barefoot eventers, and it can be done, but there are a lot of precautions that must be taken in order to do so.

    Omg. You put nails in their foot? And they run like that?

    • @HappyTailsAnimals
      @HappyTailsAnimals  7 лет назад +8

      +Lardian yes if they are running on pavement it's much better for them to have shoes than to be barefoot. You wear shoes when you go out of the house. :)

    • @gothicspoon
      @gothicspoon 7 лет назад +6

      Lardian Horses have hooves, which unlike our squishy feet, are hard and tough. If the nails are applied properly, the horse will not feel a thing.
      It's basically just a beneficial upgrade for them.

      Lardian WHAT BUT SHE CUT OUT THE INSIDR OF HER FOOT AND OW SHIT POOR HORSE

    • @gothicspoon
      @gothicspoon 7 лет назад +6

      Ashsforever Think of it like cutting a fingernail, since they're actually made of the same matter. If it doesn't hurt when you cut yours, it's the same thing for the horse.

      Happy Tails True. I just wonder how close their nerves are to their hooves and how does someone know how deep to trim. Imagine being the first person to try this lol.
