Thank you!!! i will never forget being in the Roxy Theatre in Pacific Beach in 1961 watching 2 Bruce Brown films--Slippery & Endless Summer-- with music by Bud Shank. I had the original albums. I ran away from home later & had to leave them behind. Now at the age of 67 I feel like the coolest person in the world listening to this!
Well, okay, Suzanne, you may be the coolest gal but I'm one of the coolest guys. I never played a gig with Bud Shank but my wife already had the Slippery When Wet album when we married in 1966 and around 20 +/- years ago we went to hear him play at the KRML radio studio in Carmel, CA. He was the cool one that night.😇
Bud Shank used to play at The Lighthouse jazz club in Hermosa Beach, California where I was born and spent early years. I recall my parents taking me there one evening..then later hearing Bud Shank with one of the first surfing films..Slippery When Wet...Across the street was a place called the Golden Bear where they would have poetry (like Jack Kerouac)... Then moved to Manhattan Beach..then south to Palos Verdes..started surfing the cove..Redondo..then when obtaining car at 16..just about every place in California and Mexico. Went to RVN..and last deployment/contract was training the Ugandan's prior to their move into Mog, Somalia 2011 (RVN, Salvador, Haiti, Bosnia, Croatia, Darfur, Afghanistan, Iraq, Sudan & Uganda.) Still and longboarder and can today recall the tunes of Bud Shank and his guys..bitchin' time for certain.
Ah l'alto dema jeunesse qui m'a donné envie d'en jouer!Multi instrumentiste et toujours joyeux et pourquoi pas, dans ces temps tragiques!Merci Bud!
