Testing a Random-Wire Antenna With a Choke, pt-2/2.

- For a shorter HF antenna the "Random Wire" antenna is a good option provided that you use an RF choke to get rid of troublesome common-mode currents. Here I test the combination of both the 9:1 UNUN and the RF choke in the same box for a tidier installation. My friend Xavier organised a BOTA (Beaches on The Air) activation he re in Antibes with the TM06BOTA spacial call, perfect opportunity to test the antenna with an 8m wire and 4m counterpoise. Wait for the amazing SSB contact on 15m!

Thank you for revealing you also had troubles with decoding the very tight spacing!
The combined 9:1 + 1:1 transformer worked very well and it resulted to be practical for SOTA/BOTA events. Good job!
Toujours agréables ces vidéos en extérieur GIL merci !
Avec 15.80m de fil d'antenne et 25m de coax en guise de contrepoids c'est la meilleur config du 9:1 d'après mon expérience.
Nice seeing you glad you made it thru the health crisis. I was just looking at 9:1’s today.
Thanks Gil, very nice reporting on the unun and random wire. Keep up the good work.
Will do!
Merci Gil... very interesting...
I need to come down there and visit your buddy.. It's supposed to be Spring up here and the temperature is -17 Celsius at the moment.
Geez! Yes, any time my friend :-) Let me know in advance so I can put vacation time down..
Greetings, I have a 71' wire and my homebrew 9:1 all packed for a trip to Arizona from Missouri. Taking my Yaesu FT-817, MFJ L-Network Tuner, and a Watt meter, oh and a Homebrew 1:1 Choke. Planning on just making some contacts on SSB and Digital with my down time while the wife is visiting with her mother. Enjoyed the video as usual.
Thanks, have fun!
Very good boss
Hey Gil! Good to See you back. Yea world is running crazy. I am afraid that everybody of us, who s not having a sunblocker 1000000 will have a very bad day. And we are look like grilled chicken after they started there icbm s. I really hope peace winns. 73 my friend Gil
Definitely, we shall see...
Nice vidéo as always. I’m trying this kind of antena very soon!
Best regards

I thought that was your beard until I put on my glasses 😂
Hello Gil, I like thae Vector Analyzer by EU1KY. This Thing looks interesting and of course your home made 9:1UNUN with the RF Choke inside. You picked a beautiful Location to play some portable Radio. Hahahaha...B...... on the Air 😂😂😂👍
Yes thanks! 😀
I like the design and think I may give it a try. I just got my new 3D printer, so making my own box is now totally within my reach. I'll let you know how it works after I make it. It may be some time........
Please do 😀
Well done Gill.... 73.... ZL1BAA
👍Combined choke/UNUN is a good idea. Maybe call it ChUNUN 🙂.
I like that!
I've got a 43 ft random/long wire with a 9:1, a 1:1 unun, and a counterpoise. It is supposed to tune on many bands, and it was and suddenly stopped tuning up on anything other than 10m! But, on 10m, this short wire is reaching Europe, S America, and similar DX with good reports, on SSB, from Ontario. I will play with the wire length in the summer (if it ever stops snowing) to see what the sensitivities are to 1/2 foot changes in length.
Did you cook it with too much power maybe?
@@RadioPrepper I run 100W and the components are rated for 200W. I doubt it. I think this is the random part of 'random' wire!
Weird still...
Why not use the antenna as a fishing rod at the same time too? So you can have a qso and a bouillabaisse.
J'espère que tu approfondiras cette explication sur l'antenne en français car je n'ai pas tout compris. Merci à toi super intéressant.
I have a big smile, non resonant works with a counterpoise. The double toroid inherently keeps all the RF where it needs to be in the antenna system. When are you going to try the noise free world of a folded dipole? Keep smiling.
I have a project in mind, a folded dipole with reflectors on the ground!
I you want to make it using a cheap ladder line, get some watering system tube (about 5mm OD and 3mm ID. Get some thin tie wraps and insert two type wraps into the tube so that you get one latch thing at each end of the tube. The wires then goes between the tie wraps. Then pull both tie wraps tight at the same time. Very cost effective and NO treading of wires through small holes. Enjoy.
Note dont buy a roll of tube you can get a packet of uprights, cut with scissors to length, you get it at a garden shop.

Courtney is send same speed as the other ham. That guy was way to fast and just trying to be a show off. He was terrible and needs to re learn code.
