The check was lost in the mail. Visa application was lost submitted to Homeland Security Department . Invisible children were lost somewhere. Dog broke its legs in Sussex custody.

Here in America we still write checks. I know it’s crazy but true. But having said that the story of the check was lost in the mail is ridiculous. It was not sent.

I was going to say this. I still write checks for a few things, for example, our mechanic is charged extra if we use a card, so we write a check. But as you point out, regardless, 'the check is lost in the mail' is a ridiculous excuse. The very rare times that has happened to us, we only gave that reason for something being late, after the Postal Service or the recipient informed us it was. I had a small business here in Maryland, and wrote checks to pay State Sales Tax. One got truly lost once, and I learned my lesson and spent the money to send it Certified Mail next time.
Here in the Uk most people don’t use cheques ( Uk version of checks ) if fact most don’t have cheque books anymore , it’s all by direct debit or payment online methods . So that’s why we are very confused about what’s happening there !

We live in a small town and some people still want checks. Our plumber and electrician prefer checks and we just hand it to them.
For someone who worked as a nurse in long term care for many years this disgusts me to a whole new level. The elderly are the most valuable. Shame on them and shame on those who continue to allow them to continue doing this. This has to STOP!!!

...you're right about greasing doctor's palms. Years ago, fresh out of college I worked for 4 pulmonologists. 2 of them would do some weird stuff for cash for big pharmaceutical companies. Super shady and on the down low. These pulmonologists were nationally renowned and respected and got away with it. Harry and Meghan will have no trouble finding an obstetrician to say whatever they want them to say for the right price

As a Muslim woman, I don't offer to shake hands with men, and if they extend their hand to me, I place my hand over my heart and nod to them to acknowledge them. Nowadays most non Muslim men know this but this is just a kind way to show them respect without touching them.
