  • I have seen this called Digital Experience before but the sticker and marker in the leader clearly states the name for this trailer is "DTS: Stand Alone".
    Brand spanking new print, never even had the heads or tails removed. Likely delivered to the theatre as part of the installation package.
    Ironically, this is the analog soundtrack. It is encoded in SR but presented here without, still sounds pretty good.

    DTS was the best sound system back then.

      So did Dolby and T.H.X.

      @@mintelbrosglobalarchives There is fundamental differences between Dolby Digital and DTS. The DTS system had superior sound quality as it provided with descrete channels and a by far higher data rate per channel and near perfect error resistance. Dolby Digital encoded all channels with highly compressed low data rate and the need for matrix decoding and the hardware platform was terrible and super error-prone. THX never was a sound system but a certification process supported by some discrete parts. Maybe the best cinema sound system ever produced was 70mm-Todd-AO but with the need for an excellent and extremely expensive sound system. I had the privilege in joining a Baraka screening in the early 90ies and it was breathtaking.

    The trailer made it's debut with the theatrical release of Universal's "Jurassic Park".

      It was actually part of the film, which was rare - on UK prints it was placed after the BBFC card and UIP logo, so preceded the Universal logo. It was a slightly different edit, a little shorter.

      DTS is digital. The analog audio is there as a fallback for theaters not equipped for it.

    A bit late to the party but I believe "Stand Alone" is referring to the fact that this is meant to be 'standalone', rather than being the snipe's name.

      You've got a great point. Given that this was the first DTS trailer it may not have had a name at all until one was given retroactively to distinguish from later trailers.

    what are those dotted lines under the soundtrack?

    • @RecordCouncil
      @RecordCouncil  2 года назад +9

      DTS timecode, a synchronisation signal between the projector and DTS CD player with a digital copy of the soundtrack.

    I really love these scans! I have a 35mm projector myself but it's nice to see these preserved on the internet! I would like to ask you a question but there is no contact email on your page, could you possibly send me an email using the email shown on mine? I know this sounds like a scam but it's not! :) I just would like permission to use some of your content for a video I am planning to do on a DTS player repair! :) Cheers!

    Wait, why does this have analog optical if it's exclusively for DTS theatres?

    • @TechHowden
      @TechHowden Месяц назад

      It was just there as a fallback in case the theater didn't actually have DTS or if the equipment wasn't working properly.
