    Ive seen suggestions that this radio may feature built in FT8 send and receive and if thats the case im actually very excited for this radio. I will be waiting for reviews and if it does not have that feature the 705 is hands down a better buy.

      I know the audio on the X6100 is not very good and many choose to use an external speaker. Not sure about the X6200.

    I don't know what to think about it. I want to to buy an icom 705... Unless this one is also very good on HF. But,,, I doubt it...

      The IC-705 is incredible. By far my favorite QRP radio. The X6200 is really an unknown quantity until it gets tested by hams.

    They should have added VHF and UHF to it. Then they would have had something.

    what is the dynamic range (dB) of that Xiegu X6200 ? will it receive SSB speech as detailed & well as the Icom IC-705 ? lookswise i like it. can it be used with a bluetooth headset ? the Xiegu homepage says the X6200 has wifi & bluetooth.

    So I'd like to see a side by side with the X6100. It seems like the new model has a lower power output in exchange for wireless FT8? Also, why not add 2-Meters? It already directly competes with the IC705, and with an internal tuner plus smaller size/weight, and a lower price point, they could really compete with ICOM here. I have both a 705 and a 6100 and as far as performance goes, they are very similar. With a tuner added, the 705 is marginally better and adds 2 meter capability.

    • @hamradiobasics
      @hamradiobasics  8 месяцев назад +2

      I would as well and agree with your comment.

  • @LeeMcc_KI5YPR
    @LeeMcc_KI5YPR 8 месяцев назад +1

    I wonder if Radioddity is looking at these comments and re-thinking pricing?
    Anyway...X6200 has a builtin tuner, right? IC705 does not. I was thinking a very portable radio might be in my future, but even with a tuner, it will not be an X6200 unless there is a big price cut.
    The add-in module looks nice. 2m transverter would be cool but that easily gets into ic705 pricing.

    • @hamradiobasics
      @hamradiobasics  8 месяцев назад +2

      It sure would be nice if they re-think the price of the X6200 as it's right at the price point of an IC-705.

  • @BigJohnsHamShack

    Probably going to be the biggest flop for Xiegu. I cannot think of a reason other than the removable battery that would equate to this radio being capable of anything that the X6100 isn't at this time. You lose 25% of your output power, and it costs just shy of twice as much as its predecessor. Less we forget that Xiegu has a practice of allowing end users to beta test their hardware and software on their new products. Even if I decided that this was the radio I had to have, it would not happen until they had time to work out the bugs.

    Over a thousand dollars for an 8watt radio? Not a chance. Just use and HT.

    • @amnchode
      @amnchode 8 месяцев назад +1

      Not that I'm real thrilled with this radio, or it's supposed price point, but an HT isn't making a 1k+ mile contact without a linked repeater system. There is a BIG difference between a VHF/UHF HT and an HF radio, in terms of capability. That said, I'm also not seeing a lot of gain over the previously released X6100 to justify that kind of suggested price increase. As many have started previously, at that price point, might as well get an IC-705.... It's increase in price over the assumed price of the X6200 is justified with is addition of VHF/UHF all mode capability, D-Star, and other features and it being, most likely, a superior HF rig....
      Now, if this sold at $700, it might be a different story....at least once the firmware issues, which we all know will exist with new Xeigu rigs, play out.

    • @kchaney56
      @kchaney56 8 месяцев назад

      @@amnchode But you can get an 8-10 watt HT so the only real difference is the antenna. Correct? The whole antenna thing is something I am still trying to get my head around.

    • @LeeMcc_KI5YPR
      @LeeMcc_KI5YPR 8 месяцев назад

      @kchaney56 There is no HT which operates on the bands which can reach out for thousands of miles. There are some small radios in those bands with built-in microphones, but those are not an HT in the traditional sense.

    • @amnchode
      @amnchode 8 месяцев назад

      @@kchaney56 Wattages aren't near as important as bands. VHF/UHF, which almost all HTs are, is line of sight... There is no atmosphere reflection, as their frequencies are to high and typically penetrate the ionosphere. HF, on the otherhand, have lower frequencies that are able to bounce off the ionosphere (under the right conditions) and send the signal MUCH further (ie, thousands of miles)...
      This also doesn't take into account of mode availability. HT are typically FM only....most HF rigs are all mode....FM, AM, SSB, CW, etc. Those other modes can make better use of lower power due to better bandwidth efficiency. As an example, the rule of thumb is that 5W CW is the equivalent of 100W SSB... It only needs 150hz or so bandwidth, where SSB needs 15x(+) more. Digital modes such as FT8 only need 50hz. I earned my DXCC (awarded for contacting 100 unique DX entities [re: countries]) using only 10W with my X6100. You aren't doing that with a typical HT....
