Just stumbled across your channel yesterday. You are doing a fantastic job keeping the old caravans alive. I've caravanned most of my life. Keep up the good work. I wish I could get involved with a project like yours and tow it with an older classic car.
Really looking forward to this restoration Cameron, being the owner of springbok, sable and nyala you just don't see work like this, Good luck my good man 😊
Growing up in the 70's we caravanned with my parents. The 'posh' caravan of the day was a Windrush. My parents never climbed to those levels but my dad always wanted a brand new caravan so opted for a Piper, it was brown and white, pretty basic but brand new and his pride and joy! Now all grown up and almost 60 my husband and me own a lovely, albeit second hand, Swift Eccles with all the mod cons and we love it. That being said the nostalgia of your vintage caravan makeovers brings back so many childhood memories for me. Loving your channel which is just that bit different.😊
How wonderful! Is Gardner your surname too? Arthur Gardner was the founder of Cheltenham Caravans, officially registering the company in 1927. I wonder if he’s a distant relation?
I remember curvy vans from our family holidays in the mid 60’s. It does look like it’s going to be a big challenge but I can’t wait to see how you get on. 😊
Oh Cameron! I will absolutely love to see you restoring those old caravan - I have the opportunity of restoring a little abandoned carisima…. Your charming videos are a total inspiration! 🙏
Thank you, and you’re welcome! Best of luck with restoring your little Car Cruiser Carissima. If you’re on Facebook, you should join the NotAnotherWhiteBox group for advice and tips about restoring caravans: facebook.com/groups/notanotherwhitebox
Absolutely fascinating caravan, and what a project you’ve taken on! Like everyone else, I am really looking forward to seeing the restoration progress. Good luck!🤞🏽
Been so looking forward to your next project and what a project!!!. Recently been toying with the idea of a vintage caravan to go with my classic car. Heart set on carlight but then view your puku 4 video swayed me a bit.. Then I seeing the promo picture of the springbok towed by the Jag, funny enough is what I own, Jaguar 420G, looks a very nice combo. 🤔. Cat wait to see next installment
Thank you, yes it is quite a project! I can’t believe the wonderful response it’s had so far. I love the 420G, you could definitely get a nice big classic caravan with the amount of pulling power that one of those has!
You must be the Dan Cruikshank of caravans... Should turn out to be a great series to see what you do with it to retain that classic look and feel and at the same time build-in sufficient strength to make it safely usable... especially that sky-light... I say this the night before I'm picking up my new 2 tonne caravan 🙂
My Dad and Mums first caravan was a Cheltenham Springbuck and towed it with a 1964 Rover P6. In fact looking at your van think it may be the same one. If so they got it second hand from Hants and Berks in Portsmouth. The fridge is missing where you have a rubbish bin. I think they bought it in 1960-1. Yes it had the front step fitted but my father also fitted on to rear door. Later on he towed it with a Volvo 144 of 1972 area. The more you showed the more it looked like there one. Colin Mew
I really wish it was the same one, I would love to connect with the family that owned it. But I know for a fact it was a Leicestershire caravan from new, it has a dealer plaque and that’s where it was discovered about 5-6 years ago when it was sold for scrap. Luckily, the scrap man passed it onto a caravan dealership in Northampton and saved it from being destroyed.
Thank you, looking forward to finishing it! I think it’ll be a nice reset after my last restoration series couldn’t be completed 🙄 I’ve been working on it since last Christmas, so I’m hoping to have it finished on time for the Cheltenham Owners Club 75th anniversary rally next May 😁
Always loved the shape of the Cheltenham caravans, I think you have your work cut out with this one but I'm sure you'll crack it as you've done great restorations in the past. As for the skylight maybe send it off to a fibreglass specialist for a repair then a gel coat to seal it then painted to match the roof, unless you want to tackle that yourself of course. Looking forward to part 2 just hope it doesn't collapse with its deconstruction.
I wonder if it is worth while exploring fibre glass boat molds? Looking at how to create a silicone form, which then enables a fibre glass build? It all looks terribly butch and hard work. xx
Enjoying your videos. Do you think it's possible or practical to pull a small caravan with a Morris minor 1098cc ? And if so could you recommend a model I should look out for, I don't mind having to do a bit of work on it.
There’s dozens of caravans from the early 1960s through to the 1970s that were designed to be towed by the BMC Mini. I’d suggest that any of these would be suitable. You can spot them as they’re usually on 10” Mini wheels. The Sprite 400 was famously the first caravan to be designed specifically for the Mini in 1960. I’ve got a friend who tows a 1965 model with his Morris Minor Traveller with no problems. Just take it steady and get a good run up for hills 😂

1963..the year my husband and I, avid subscribers were born, in Cheltenham. Still here now!

I’m sure you could create a mould to make your own new fibreglass roof light or fibreglass expert could do it ☺
Happy to see white box new caravan I think it's beautiful and lovely watching the restoration. Thanks😊
I love it - the pièce de résistance of the Cheltenham range!

Thank you, I can’t wait to finish it! It’s going to be the star of any campsite for sure 🥰
The shape of this van is utterly beautiful.
It is isn’t it? Even in its unrestored state it still looks stunning ❤️
I had a Cheltenham many years ago , I loved it , it towed very well , easy to reverse . Still like them , good luck with this great van .
Thanks Paul, yes even to this day they tow beautifully compared to modern caravans!

Am so excited to be going on this journey with you. I think it is going to be frustrating for you but enertaining for us!
Absolutely fascinating caravan, and what a project you’ve taken on! Like everyone else, I am really looking forward to seeing the restoration progress. Good luck!🤞🏽
Thank you, yes I am very excited to see it take shape over the next few months! This is going to be a very different kind of project for me.

Do you tend to keep things like door hardware etc, even when the furniture units are completely rotten? May come in hand in the future!
When will you post the next video of the restoration?

Oh wow I hope you can! Maybe a sprite Ariel? You will look so cool!
@@MsDormy thanks for the reply, after doing some research although I do like the sprite I've decided to go for an Eriba puck .

@@NotAnotherWhiteBox thanks 👍 I've just bought a 1990 eriba puck I like the fact that it's quite narrow.
