- BYU's Mark Pope has officially been hired by Kentucky to replace John Calipari. After being turned down or declared not interested by a variety of candidates (Nate Oats, Dan Hurley, Scott Drew...), the Wildcats locked in Pope for a 5-year contract. Kentucky fans and sports fans alike are pointing out that the resume of Pope isn't exactly Kentucky basketball level, except for the fact he was captain of the 1996 team. It's a new era for Kentucky basketball, one including coaches rapping and welcome videos.

He ain’t Calipari, that’s all I wanted from him.
If all he does is run a modern CBB offense and truly loves Kentucky he will kiss enough heiny to make the boosters pay for talent. Doesn’t even need to recruit.
Pope usually smartest guy in the room. Those people are usually successful!!!
I just noticed, your advertising Bud Light that says it all.
Guess everyone forgets how good the Matt Daughtery/ North Carolina “homeboy” hire worked out. Five lousy years with Calipari and 5 lousy years with Pope even if he eventually does get it going. BBN is heading down the same road Indiana is on. Why the big hurry to hire Pope? He would come 6 months from now.
Dukes coach wouldn’t be there if he didn’t play for them same with UNC
If pope gets Shephard to stay, You 3 gonna eat 🐦⬛. Only coach out there that even had a chance to retain him for at least one more year.
He has more going for him than Duke's Jon Scheyer or UNC's Hubert Davis had going for them when they took over. Wake up, guys, and at least pretend you know a little something about college basketball.
Mark Pope now has $4 million reasons why players will want to play for him!
I've heard that Nate Oats wanted the job, but due to family/legal reasons, he had to decline.
That’s right, when you all started your podcast you were rockin it with 1 million viewers. No it takes time, Pope will do an awesome job. Calm down, it’s not embarrassing, what’s embarrassing having a head coach kneel during the anthem.
Mike Shula was a desperation hire. This is an embarrassing hire!!
This is a great hire.
No!
These guys have no business talking about basketball.
You talk like the program recruits the players. Not any more.
He Won't Make It At Kentucky!!
Terrible takes.......
