Few key points: you do not own any item in the game, only a license to use your skins etc. (They can alter and remove contents with 0 refunds), next to 0 refunds on any pur Hase (real money or not), "unsolicited game ideas" means they claim they dont want any help or Suggestions on their game but they Reserve the right to steal your derivative work without any noti ce or compensation bcs "fuck you its my ip" and many more. Even for eu countries with good consumer protection they use irish law because its the weakest there. I dont see that Holding up in a european court outside of irland but im no lawyer. Safe to say they want to squeeze you dry with lazy content cough cough jinx arcane skin cough and want to make sure you cant do anything about it.
Riot is so stupid. The mastery chests were THE main reason to keep playing the game if one doesn't play ranked. Now, what is the point? One can't spend money if one doesn't play the game, and I for one am done.
I remember back then when pulsefire Ezreal was released, and they absolutely assured us that they were a once a year thing and that theyd never overstep the 20€ line.

As someone who regularly bought passes, they were mostly the only thing which kept me coming back because at least i got plenty of skin shards (the only thing that people actually care about, riot gaslighting us thinking we want dumb stuff like icons/borders etc. is pathetic) Ranked is fucked, that's an issue on it's own, i genuinely believe it no longer displays your skill rather than how much time you re willing to waste on it F2P rewards are fucked, and they nerf them even more, not to mention that Hextech chests are absolutely garbage, you get a skin shard 1/3 of the drops, 2/3 being either BE or OE, and the rest is icons or other garbage loot Thanks Riot, you finally managed to cure my League addiction, it's been a good run
It's even funnier how they're presenting those changes. In article in part about free to play players they started with "We wanted to fix that: If you never spend a dollar in League, but are spending your time, it should feel rewarding.", gaslighting people into thinking it's a good change. I myself was surpised while reading that, but then when I continued I laughed so hard. If you want more money - thats ok, just say it, dont f-ing present it as you're buffing f2p experience when it's exactly the opposite.
If they at least used the money on the actual game I wouldn't mind the f2p being nerfed. If they're losing money or simply need more money to make changes we've wanted that's fine by me. However the reality is that they likely won't be doing shit for the League players despite it all.

What makes my blood boil is that they're doing this in League but then don't give back to the community. We've constantly had stuff deleted out of the game because it isn't profitable like consistent RGMs, Twisted Treeline, Alternate SR Skins etc. Alright fine I get it, Riot's a business. Hell we even got something with Arena and Swarm but still, they take so much and give so little back. Now they're taking again and I have no hope at all in them giving us something cool in return...

The skin shard thing is a direct lift from Wild Rift, which has always been scummy gacha because its a mobile game nobody will notice or care. They are moving ALL of Wild Rift's monetization to PC.

RIOT is disgusting man, after they removed rewards from watching lolesports i gave up on buying anything from them. You used to be able to get 6k OE at worlds and get like 20+skins with each pass, nowadays you get a teemo emote that no one uses or like. Every new update we get, its another way to nerf anything that actually makes people want to play, honor rewards are non existent, ranked rewards are emotes and a trash skin, watching esports gives emotes, its like they want the game to die faster or are looking for the new stupid players that buy this stupid $250 chromas for no reason, people talk about how bad Overwatch skins are but RIOT is doing the same fucking thing and people are buying it, its just crazy.

You get a skin in every ten chests, and you get copies of your existing skins from capsules, even if it’s very improbable. Riot’s words point to concern for our experience, while their actions point to going back on everything promised before and stealing all the free loot opportunities they can. The only reason I ever bought passes was to get loads of orbs, never cared about the prestige skins, never cared about borders or icons. I enjoyed the gambling aspect of opening like 15 orbs for potential banger skins and the aspect of rerolling them, and it was a good deal, so it actually made me want to spend money on the game since buying RP just for one skin always feels like it sucks this is a massive nerf not just to the free to play pass experience but also I feel like the paid experience has been ruined
I'm an aram only player for a long time and i used to have few chests sitting on my loot page because i wasn't getting keys fast enough and by the time i gather keys, another chest is received so i always had 2-3 chests. After years of change, i now have 15 keys with no chests. Tells you something
First they alienated the aram players (weekly chests), then they alienated the diehard fans of specific champions ($200+ skins), now they're alienating the heavy spenders AND the average f2p players with this change. Is their intention to get everyone to quit their game? Also, what do I do with all these keys I have?

So Leage is becoming a "real" gacha game now but with no way to earn currency to roll except paying for it. It makes skins unable to get now. The whole point of Hexteh craft system was to give people a way that is similar to gacha game, earning these shards by playing and farmnig skins you like or reroll ones you doesnt. Now its pay or get out.
Fortnite battle pass is perfect, you have to pay 10 euros ONE TIME for 1000 v-bucks, then you buy the battle pass for 1000 v-bucks, and if you reach level 150 (wich is easy with quests) you get 1500 v-bucks for free (so you can buy the next battle pass and you get 500 v-bucks in bonus for free) But it's way too customer friendly, Riot would never do something like that, they want us to spend hundreds on their game

battle pass skins sucks so much in recent passes and they've been getting a lot of collab skins or emotes so people still need to buy vbucks because stuff in shop are always good. It is genius from epic to make best bp but still making people buy vbucks because they put their fav show skins/music emotes. Riot never does something like that and i hate it. Like put some anime skins for characters like ichigo as yone, dio/jotaro as sett etc. They could gather so much money from people like that but they just want people to waste their money on gacha skins that should've cost 10 dollars. I hate new riot and i'm not spending money anymore. They need to get new devs. Not putting anime collabs in a f2p game is mind blowing.

Upsetting the whales when that's basically who is single-handedly financing the continued existence of your company is a really weird move. Imagine if a gacha title like Genshin Impact started a policy where you can only get one copy of a character per every time their banner appears (similar to how Riot's gacha works btw, you can only get the Jinx skin once, there's zero incentive to keep pulling after that). Honestly, it makes me more angry that free players get a 1350 or lower skin. Like that's so blatantly a nerf it's crazy. Because it's not like they were giving up 1830 and 3250 skins anyways, it was a very small chance. Now they're straight up removing that chance entirely. They ad 1350 skins like crazy and there's a huge backlog of lower cost skins so the odds of an orb giving you a high tier skin is already super loe but they straight up said "Nah you guys shouldn't even get a chance for that". That's actually absurd levels of greed. Not even just that but adding the shitty gacha ON TOP of that is what really gets me. It's so unbelievably greedy.

Free-to-play players will never know what it's like to earn a legendary or higher skin anymore. My friends and I no longer play like we used to after the changes to mastery and chests, so now I think lol will become one of those games we play once a month.
I just got Azriel's ultimate skin today, and this year some banger skins as well, not gonna lie, I really don't have an incentive to play the game anymore if they remove the chests

Riot is conducting the "food substitution experiment" on its player base. (How much of the ingredients in your food can be replaced with wood shavings until u'll finally notice), they worsen and worsen the player experience, each year a lil bit worse and worse, and people still throw money at the game because Riot keeps lying about the budget.
It was nice while it lasted. Event pass was a good deal for active players. Now, if you don't like prestige, you have no reason to buy the pass, since the value is not there. The only ones who benefit from these changes are those that don't play a lot but want the prestige. Everyone else (active players, f2p) lose. Riot will be lucky if I buy 1 pass now, as opposed to every single one.
Don't worry they'll just increase the price and find the same idiots that bought (and even took loans to buy) the $500 limited edition Faker Ahri skin.

Think of it this way, if you missed a previous pass and want an old prestige skin there is two ways that RIOT currently has in mind: A) The current system, where you spend $20 and play a bunch of games B) Spend hundreds of dollars on a shitty gacha because you are fuckin delusional and RIOT profits off your irresponsible spending habits + you spend the $20 anyway cause you like all the other loot on the pass you probably won't finish And for RIOT they simply love preying on gambling addicts too much to pass up option B
The Reddit has always been crazy censored, I don’t know who moderates it but they clearly don’t like players giving feedback about questionable changes. Bugs, too. When the game went down for a lot of people for HOURS, I kept checking Reddit for the notification that it’s okay, cause people were saying they can’t get into games and losing LP and stuff. Meanwhile, the client didn’t even say anything (the red button) until an hour after this happened, and never updated when it was fixed until the next day.
Speaking as a F2P who quit playing ranked a long time, casual games and arams were the thing that kept me hooked into league because I get to collect skins and other rewards through just playing. But now after this F2P nerf I'm struggling to find a reason to keep playing the game since it's barely as rewarding as it used to be.
The new animated shows will keep a trickle of new players coming in, and the ones who quit will just simply be replaced by people who didn't know the better times, thinking that this system is how it's always been and they'll be used to it. Seen it with my own eyes with some games.
We lost prime, we lost E-sports drops, we lost weekly chests and now we just lose all chests and are bound to skins of lower quality than legendary... man, this is getting even sadder...
My girlfriend is a 100% casual player, she has been playing for over 10 years, she never finishes her ranked placements, nor plays over 20 games a year (mostly plays aram with me some times)... she only bought battlepasses of her main champs back then, I helped her finish the passes playing tft on her account when she needed the extra points for the 2000 tokens (MF, Lux passes) She got extremely upset from the mastery chest old change because she would look to the chest she would have gotten for playing well every once in a while... ever since the change and not getting a single chest her motivation to play significantly dropped Anyways, don't think the new system will motivate her to keep playing much since its even worse than this last one lol... luckily for her she already got the ultimate MF and Seraphine skins from old drops (she played a t0n when she got these) but sadly she won't seem to get Elem Lux any time soon EDIT: You forgot to mention... this would be the 4th nerf in a row to chests/mastery/f2p progression... the very first nerf was a stealth nerf (Riot didn't announce anything about this and pulled the changes) to chests' drop odds, they used to have way higher odds of giving skin shards and less champion shards/wards/emotes
I have no clue how a company can be so stupid. This post puts everything in perspective. Leauge already is low on getting new players because of the skill floor being high. Getting cool cosmetics entices players to play more and populate the game more, as you said, she played a ton when she good ultimate skins.

Your story reminded me of how I started playing this game. I didn't really like it - as the comment above said, it has a very strange skill progression. I played a bit with friends and so on. I liked Kindred a lot, but not enough to stay in the game for a long time - I always lost games as Kindred. But when I got the Kindred skin - at that time they still gave you a chest just for being a newbie - I really wanted to get into the game and start winning. It was 2016, and even now I sometimes come to play with my friends. But it doesn't happen anymore.

Pretty simple fix for the new battlepass, simply once you get to the prestige skin tier allow the player to choose what they want whether its the prestige skin or mythic essence. Could do this with other rewards as well.

As someone who does like borders (always thought they were kind of a cool 'I was there' sorta perk), I'd commonly grind out borders for skins I was sort of interested in but didn't want to pay full price for. That way I'd have the border waiting in the wings if I ever managed to roll the skin or pick it up on sale. Loss of that option is already pretty horrible, but now buying a pass means I'll potentially be getting borders for skins I have zero interest in. I have no idea how Riot thinks getting rid of self-selection is a good thing. Very many profitable things are built on self-selection.
This is horrible. They wanna "grow" more and more as a company instead of keeping the game healthy and the playerbase they (still) have. If you gotta save money, tune down on creating new skins because apparently they cost them too much for the amount of people actually buying them. Because guess what, it IS too much for the average player. A Gacha system like this will eventually kill the game, I'm calling it now, and I never was someone who easily screams "league is dead/dying"... I'm worried.
I started playing League eleven years ago when the game was much smaller and everyone was pretty bad still. I've seen the player base fall of really badly, for almost two years, ALL of my queues took ten minutes minimum to find one game and most of them had dodgers. I saw how popular League got in new players after Arcane but I also saw most of those players get ran off League by toxic players who act like someone being new or bad to the game is the worst possible thing ever. The game can be really confusing and difficult at first, it doesn't help the tutorials are sooo fucking old now that they don't even properly teach anyone new what they're meant to be doing. I picked up a new player into my party and started helping him because he had been playing for two months and still didn't even know how to use wards properly or what they even were. I play in a lot of low level lobbies due to all my friends being mostly low level, I'm level 558 and I see entire lobbies of people who don't know how to ward, don't actually know how to buy items or what their items even do. I play support and I often see the weirdest champs played in the weirdest spots. Had one enemy team who are, Lux top, Lulu mid, Garen ADC with a Mundo support who was buying MR items despite our whole team being AD and tank and a Thresh jungle who didn't have smite and was actually sitting in mid lane because he didn't know what a jungler was. I don't care about getting into lobbies like these, I know what it's like to be new to the game even if for me, that was years ago. I help new players when I can but our jungler who was a random and level 107 was absolutely flaming the enemy team, calling them idiots, morons and actual slurs, people like that make new players not want to play already, so Riot making these changes not only spits in the face of the new fans from Arcane but also the dedicated, long standing players who have been around a while. Who will be left to play their game if not veterans OR newbies?
Grinding the free orbs and shards was literally the only motivation I had to keep playing. If it turns out to be just as bad as it sounds then I will definetly look for another game to play. The grind already felt annoying but at least it was rewarding, now it sounds like pure agony
So in short I won't be able to farm skins anymore since they remove the tokens. Each pass will have 15 to 21 skins and I'm afraid to see the difference with these changes
But in the end it's good news, I was now only playing thanks to the buttle pass, with this change I'll probably give up playing it completely which isn't bad news, I've still taken all the battle passes, and even if it doesn't count for anything for riot, I'm not the only one who made the buttle pass like this, 20 euros are nothing for them, but they forget that they don't just change the battle pass for me

It won't be simply hard to get legendary, mythic, or ultimate-tier skins for f2p players, it will be impossible. The skins from the free pass can only be be epic-tier or lower and unlock automatically, so f2p players will no longer have access to skin shards.
Probably the worst change for me is that I won't be able to choose whether I want the prestige skin or get 10 orbs (= 10 skins) for my tokens. I hate this, I can't wait to get a prestige skin for a champ I will never play when I could've had 10 random skins instead:)
I used to spend money on event passes, but I stopped paying when they started their weird campaign against F2P players. I'm never going to purchase a single RP in my life.
We get the message loud and clear, Riot: free-to-play players are not welcome on League of Legends. I think these decisions will drive away a healthy and sizeable chunk of the player base, myself included.
So in other words if you aren't interested in the skins from the BPs you have no reason to buy them since they removed 90% of the content you could get with tokens... Wouldn't this mean a drop in BP purchases? I fail to see another reason to buy the BP if not for ancien sparks but you might be better off outright buying some at that point instead of spending to grind them and get things you're not interested in...
The mods of the League subreddit have been in power-trip mode since day 1 of the League forums being shut down. The curated "community" there is nothing but an echo chamber of what they agree with.
I'm a f2p player that recently started playing again after a 2 years hiatus. When I saw the mastery chests I was intiailly stoked, because I thought it was in addition to the previous weekly chests. Then I got an S, no chest, and realized that it was actually a nerf. On top of that, when I stopped playing Amazon Prime gaming was still active, meaning you would get a bunch of rp and a skin each month if you knew someone with a prime subscription willing to let you borrow their account. I've been playing again for around a month now, and I'm honestly shocked about how little rewards you get from f2p. Totally different to how I remember it. It already feels impossible to get any skin you actually want right now, and these changes look like they're gonna make things even worse

ive been playing league since 2017 and in all those years i have never spent a single dollar since it is a free to play game. nonetheless, the free rewards i am able to get by playing so much and with such dedication these years really feel like a pat in the back and a thanks from the league of legends community for supporting them and playing their game. throughout the years these rewards just keep on being nerfed. at the beginning i didnt mind it, since riot is a company and only cares about the money, but now, seeing how much more they want to nerf their already nerfed free rewards i just feel like they want to take advantage of me. they make everything battle pass related, with it even having its own tab on the client. they seem to only be focusing on how to make purchase related changes to their game and completely ignore the player base and their demands. the weekly chest had been a huge reason for me to log in and play and that changed i was so bumped, but seeing how i could still get rewarded for playing a tried not to mind. now what is this? i think that as a player base we should really come together and voice our concerns. dont forget that if they dont make money they will have and they will want to make changes to satisfy their players and they will have to take us seriously.

Few key points: you do not own any item in the game, only a license to use your skins etc. (They can alter and remove contents with 0 refunds), next to 0 refunds on any pur Hase (real money or not), "unsolicited game ideas" means they claim they dont want any help or Suggestions on their game but they Reserve the right to steal your derivative work without any noti ce or compensation bcs "fuck you its my ip" and many more. Even for eu countries with good consumer protection they use irish law because its the weakest there. I dont see that Holding up in a european court outside of irland but im no lawyer. Safe to say they want to squeeze you dry with lazy content cough cough jinx arcane skin cough and want to make sure you cant do anything about it.

It's even funnier how they're presenting those changes. In article in part about free to play players they started with "We wanted to fix that: If you never spend a dollar in League, but are spending your time, it should feel rewarding.", gaslighting people into thinking it's a good change. I myself was surpised while reading that, but then when I continued I laughed so hard. If you want more money - thats ok, just say it, dont f-ing present it as you're buffing f2p experience when it's exactly the opposite.
If they at least used the money on the actual game I wouldn't mind the f2p being nerfed.
If they're losing money or simply need more money to make changes we've wanted that's fine by me.

The skin shard thing is a direct lift from Wild Rift, which has always been scummy gacha because its a mobile game nobody will notice or care. They are moving ALL of Wild Rift's monetization to PC.

RIOT is disgusting man, after they removed rewards from watching lolesports i gave up on buying anything from them. You used to be able to get 6k OE at worlds and get like 20+skins with each pass, nowadays you get a teemo emote that no one uses or like. Every new update we get, its another way to nerf anything that actually makes people want to play, honor rewards are non existent, ranked rewards are emotes and a trash skin, watching esports gives emotes, its like they want the game to die faster or are looking for the new stupid players that buy this stupid $250 chromas for no reason, people talk about how bad Overwatch skins are but RIOT is doing the same fucking thing and people are buying it, its just crazy.

What I hate is how they f-ing lie about it every time it happens. It also happened last time, we got served a half-assed attempt at a half-baked excuse, when it was painfully obvious what the real reason was. What they didn’t like was that the people spending ten thousand dollars on cosmetics didn’t have to spend 20 to unlock everything. Are they stupid? They should be happy someone exists who spends that much, most people don’t spend anything or do it irregularly. I don’t remember the lie served to justify chest system changes, but the result is i probably got a quarter of the chests from last year. Last year i had a 20 key deficit at some point. Not to mention that Im absolutely certain there was a shadow nerf to loot rng. You get a skin in every ten chests, and you get copies of your existing skins from capsules, even if it’s very improbable.
Riot’s words point to concern for our experience, while their actions point to going back on everything promised before and stealing all the free loot opportunities they can. All of this amidst outrage over gacha mechanics and $500 skins
The only reason I ever bought passes was to get loads of orbs, never cared about the prestige skins, never cared about borders or icons. I enjoyed the gambling aspect of opening like 15 orbs for potential banger skins and the aspect of rerolling them, and it was a good deal, so it actually made me want to spend money on the game since buying RP just for one skin always feels like it sucks this is a massive nerf not just to the free to play pass experience but also I feel like the paid experience has been ruined
I'm an aram only player for a long time and i used to have few chests sitting on my loot page because i wasn't getting keys fast enough and by the time i gather keys, another chest is received so i always had 2-3 chests. After years of change, i now have 15 keys with no chests. Tells you something

So Leage is becoming a "real" gacha game now but with no way to earn currency to roll except paying for it.
It makes skins unable to get now. The whole point of Hexteh craft system was to give people a way that is similar to gacha game, earning these shards by playing and farmnig skins you like or reroll ones you doesnt. Now its pay or get out.
Fortnite battle pass is perfect, you have to pay 10 euros ONE TIME for 1000 v-bucks, then you buy the battle pass for 1000 v-bucks, and if you reach level 150 (wich is easy with quests) you get 1500 v-bucks for free (so you can buy the next battle pass and you get 500 v-bucks in bonus for free)
But it's way too customer friendly, Riot would never do something like that, they want us to spend hundreds on their game

Like put some anime skins for characters like ichigo as yone, dio/jotaro as sett etc. They could gather so much money from people like that but they just want people to waste their money on gacha skins that should've cost 10 dollars. Upsetting the whales when that's basically who is single-handedly financing the continued existence of your company is a really weird move. Imagine if a gacha title like Genshin Impact started a policy where you can only get one copy of a character per every time their banner appears (similar to how Riot's gacha works btw, you can only get the Jinx skin once, there's zero incentive to keep pulling after that). Honestly, it makes me more angry that free players get a 1350 or lower skin. Like that's so blatantly a nerf it's crazy. Because it's not like they were giving up 1830 and 3250 skins anyways, it was a very small chance. Now they're straight up removing that chance entirely. They ad 1350 skins like crazy and there's a huge backlog of lower cost skins so the odds of an orb giving you a high tier skin is already super loe but they straight up said "Nah you guys shouldn't even get a chance for that". That's actually absurd levels of greed. Not even just that but adding the shitty gacha ON TOP of that is what really gets me. It's so unbelievably greedy.

Event pass was a good deal for active players. Now, if you don't like prestige, you have no reason to buy the pass, since the value is not there.
The only ones who benefit from these changes are those that don't play a lot but want the prestige. Everyone else (active players, f2p) lose.
Riot will be lucky if I buy 1 pass now, as opposed to every single one.

TRUE. I was waiting for Zoe Prestige, and since I knew it’s not coming in the closest month I didn’t get mythic essence from the pass, but spent it on orbs. I didn’t know about those changes and if they won’t give ME from the pass, the mythics will just be for whales only, no?

Think of it this way, if you missed a previous pass and want an old prestige skin there is two ways that RIOT currently has in mind:
A) The current system, where you spend $20 and play a bunch of games
B) Spend hundreds of dollars on a shitty gacha because you are fuckin delusional and RIOT profits off your irresponsible spending habits + you spend the $20 anyway cause you like all the other loot on the pass you probably won't finish
And for RIOT they simply love preying on gambling addicts too much to pass up option B
The Reddit has always been crazy censored, I don’t know who moderates it but they clearly don’t like players giving feedback about questionable changes. Bugs, too. When the game went down for a lot of people for HOURS, I kept checking Reddit for the notification that it’s okay, cause people were saying they can’t get into games and losing LP and stuff. Meanwhile, the client didn’t even say anything (the red button) until an hour after this happened, and never updated when it was fixed until the next day.

Speaking as a F2P who quit playing ranked a long time, casual games and arams were the thing that kept me hooked into league because I get to collect skins and other rewards through just playing.
But now after this F2P nerf I'm struggling to find a reason to keep playing the game since it's barely as rewarding as it used to be.
Unluckily it won't happen. It's terrible, but LoL players have no free thought
The new animated shows will keep a trickle of new players coming in, and the ones who quit will just simply be replaced by people who didn't know the better times, thinking that this system is how it's always been and they'll be used to it. Seen it with my own eyes with some games.
We lost prime, we lost E-sports drops, we lost weekly chests and now we just lose all chests and are bound to skins of lower quality than legendary... man, this is getting even sadder...

My girlfriend is a 100% casual player, she has been playing for over 10 years, she never finishes her ranked placements, nor plays over 20 games a year (mostly plays aram with me some times)... she only bought battlepasses of her main champs back then, I helped her finish the passes playing tft on her account when she needed the extra points for the 2000 tokens (MF, Lux passes)
She got extremely upset from the mastery chest old change because she would look to the chest she would have gotten for playing well every once in a while... ever since the change and not getting a single chest her motivation to play significantly dropped
Anyways, don't think the new system will motivate her to keep playing much since its even worse than this last one lol... luckily for her she already got the ultimate MF and Seraphine skins from old drops (she played a t0n when she got these) but sadly she won't seem to get Elem Lux any time soon
EDIT: You forgot to mention... this would be the 4th nerf in a row to chests/mastery/f2p progression... the very first nerf was a stealth nerf (Riot didn't announce anything about this and pulled the changes) to chests' drop odds, they used to have way higher odds of giving skin shards and less champion shards/wards/emotes
I have no clue how a company can be so stupid. This post puts everything in perspective. Leauge already is low on getting new players because of the skill floor being high. Getting cool cosmetics entices players to play more and populate the game more, as you said, she played a ton when she good ultimate skins.
that stealth nerf is so annoying too cause i only noticed it after i kept getting champ shards from hextech chests and realized its genuinely just harder to get skins now from them

I didn't really like it - as the comment above said, it has a very strange skill progression. I played a bit with friends and so on. I liked Kindred a lot, but not enough to stay in the game for a long time - I always lost games as Kindred.
But when I got the Kindred skin - at that time they still gave you a chest just for being a newbie - I really wanted to get into the game and start winning.
It was 2016, and even now I sometimes come to play with my friends. But it doesn't happen anymore.

True, it was shadow nerfed, no information given, but suddenly skin drop rate went from like 80% to 10%
Clearly Riot is regretting adding the crafting system back when they were a small indie company more and more to the point where if they can't outright remove it they will nerf it as much as possible.

I used to buy every battle pass but now that I have less free time and rewards have continually gotten worse I rarely buy it. Needing to now play consistently for TWICE as long is crazy. While also getting less options for what rewards you want.

30 chests from mastery per split (90 chests per year) VS ZERO chests from mastery per year

same. i decided to start playing again 2 days ago and i came back to this.. playing doesn't feel rewarding and it made me not feel the motivation to play anymore
this is upsetting i have spend thousands of dollars on league playing for 12 years and collecting skins and im like 600 short and they do this sucks. i used to buy orbs with tokens but 2200 only got 11 skin shards so i started getting ME and using it for shards because u would get 12 forr 2200 instead but removing that is taking my main way of getting skins. and ontop of that these new teir skins being 250 dollars or even 500 dollars forr a single skin i think things are going to far. ive always thought 30 for the ultimate samira skin was a scam but riot is finding new ways to fill that spot. guess it might be time to sell my account and start playing smite
Where do i start? 67 keys with no chest to open. Prestige over ME? Over Chromas/borders? Chests will be gone then what will they give to key/chest holders? Will they do same thing then they changed currency to blue essence? Selling runes for 1point in shop etc...
as a whale if they take away the rerolls theyll never see a cent from me again. its not the main playerbase but it does effect a majority of the people actually putting money into the game regularly. not a good idea to fuck off the people who actually pay for your product vs the millions of people that never spend a cent

"nerfs to f2p" is completely insane. You play the game for free. There is no nerf to playing the game for free. If you want to receive value (skins), you need to give value (money). That's how the world works.

Mastery chests are the only progression this game has aside from ranked. This is a decision that will kill the enjoyment of the player base, even those that spend money on the game.
so riot nerfs the weekly chests by adding the mastery chests, then when they see that aram and casual players are getting less they choose to nerf rewards even more so everyone equally gets even less.

No more chests from mastery, no more mythic essence for f2p, no more 125 mythic essence from a battle pass. Oh and level ups no longer give champion shards if I got that right? i can definitely see how "now downtime, always pass on" will blow up in their face.... i think most people appreciate having a little off time from this game. maybe they will see a boost in players the first few passes and then a drop off from burn out. i cant imagine constantly being just done with a pas and having ANOTHER one just coming up. sounds exhausting.

Pretty simple fix for the new battlepass, simply once you get to the prestige skin tier allow the player to choose what they want whether its the prestige skin or mythic essence. Could do this with other rewards as well.

As someone who does like borders (always thought they were kind of a cool 'I was there' sorta perk), I'd commonly grind out borders for skins I was sort of interested in but didn't want to pay full price for. That way I'd have the border waiting in the wings if I ever managed to roll the skin or pick it up on sale. Loss of that option is already pretty horrible, but now buying a pass means I'll potentially be getting borders for skins I have zero interest in. I have no idea how Riot thinks getting rid of self-selection is a good thing. Very many profitable things are built on self-selection.
This is horrible. They wanna "grow" more and more as a company instead of keeping the game healthy and the playerbase they (still) have. If you gotta save money, tune down on creating new skins because apparently they cost them too much for the amount of people actually buying them. Because guess what, it IS too much for the average player. A Gacha system like this will eventually kill the game, I'm calling it now, and I never was someone who easily screams "league is dead/dying"... I'm worried.
I started playing League eleven years ago when the game was much smaller and everyone was pretty bad still. I've seen the player base fall of really badly, for almost two years, ALL of my queues took ten minutes minimum to find one game and most of them had dodgers. I saw how popular League got in new players after Arcane but I also saw most of those players get ran off League by toxic players who act like someone being new or bad to the game is the worst possible thing ever. The game can be really confusing and difficult at first, it doesn't help the tutorials are sooo fucking old now that they don't even properly teach anyone new what they're meant to be doing. I picked up a new player into my party and started helping him because he had been playing for two months and still didn't even know how to use wards properly or what they even were. I play in a lot of low level lobbies due to all my friends being mostly low level, I'm level 558 and I see entire lobbies of people who don't know how to ward, don't actually know how to buy items or what their items even do. I play support and I often see the weirdest champs played in the weirdest spots. Had one enemy team who are, Lux top, Lulu mid, Garen ADC with a Mundo support who was buying MR items despite our whole team being AD and tank and a Thresh jungle who didn't have smite and was actually sitting in mid lane because he didn't know what a jungler was. I don't care about getting into lobbies like these, I know what it's like to be new to the game even if for me, that was years ago. I help new players when I can but our jungler who was a random and level 107 was absolutely flaming the enemy team, calling them idiots, morons and actual slurs, people like that make new players not want to play already, so Riot making these changes not only spits in the face of the new fans from Arcane but also the dedicated, long standing players who have been around a while. Who will be left to play their game if not veterans OR newbies?
Grinding the free orbs and shards was literally the only motivation I had to keep playing.
If it turns out to be just as bad as it sounds then I will definetly look for another game to play.
The grind already felt annoying but at least it was rewarding, now it sounds like pure agony
So in short I won't be able to farm skins anymore since they remove the tokens. Each pass will have 15 to 21 skins and I'm afraid to see the difference with these changes
But in the end it's good news, I was now only playing thanks to the buttle pass, with this change I'll probably give up playing it completely which isn't bad news, I've still taken all the battle passes, and even if it doesn't count for anything for riot, I'm not the only one who made the buttle pass like this, 20 euros are nothing for them, but they forget that they don't just change the battle pass for me

It won't be simply hard to get legendary, mythic, or ultimate-tier skins for f2p players, it will be impossible. The skins from the free pass can only be be epic-tier or lower and unlock automatically, so f2p players will no longer have access to skin shards.
Probably the worst change for me is that I won't be able to choose whether I want the prestige skin or get 10 orbs (= 10 skins) for my tokens. I hate this, I can't wait to get a prestige skin for a champ I will never play when I could've had 10 random skins instead:)
I used to spend money on event passes, but I stopped paying when they started their weird campaign against F2P players. I'm never going to purchase a single RP in my life.
We get the message loud and clear, Riot: free-to-play players are not welcome on League of Legends. I think these decisions will drive away a healthy and sizeable chunk of the player base, myself included.
The only reason why I was buying the pass was for ME. I bought every pass over the last few years. I won't be buying them anymore.

Wouldn't this mean a drop in BP purchases? I fail to see another reason to buy the BP if not for ancien sparks but you might be better off outright buying some at that point instead of spending to grind them and get things you're not interested in...

The mods of the League subreddit have been in power-trip mode since day 1 of the League forums being shut down. The curated "community" there is nothing but an echo chamber of what they agree with.
It’s like they want us to stop playing, chests are the reason a big part of the community even bothers to play let alone try a new champ.
I'm a f2p player that recently started playing again after a 2 years hiatus.
When I saw the mastery chests I was intiailly stoked, because I thought it was in addition to the previous weekly chests. Then I got an S, no chest, and realized that it was actually a nerf.
On top of that, when I stopped playing Amazon Prime gaming was still active, meaning you would get a bunch of rp and a skin each month if you knew someone with a prime subscription willing to let you borrow their account.
I've been playing again for around a month now, and I'm honestly shocked about how little rewards you get from f2p. Totally different to how I remember it. It already feels impossible to get any skin you actually want right now, and these changes look like they're gonna make things even worse

ive been playing league since 2017 and in all those years i have never spent a single dollar since it is a free to play game. nonetheless, the free rewards i am able to get by playing so much and with such dedication these years really feel like a pat in the back and a thanks from the league of legends community for supporting them and playing their game. throughout the years these rewards just keep on being nerfed. at the beginning i didnt mind it, since riot is a company and only cares about the money, but now, seeing how much more they want to nerf their already nerfed free rewards i just feel like they want to take advantage of me. they make everything battle pass related, with it even having its own tab on the client. they seem to only be focusing on how to make purchase related changes to their game and completely ignore the player base and their demands. the weekly chest had been a huge reason for me to log in and play and that changed i was so bumped, but seeing how i could still get rewarded for playing a tried not to mind. now what is this? i think that as a player base we should really come together and voice our concerns. dont forget that if they dont make money they will have and they will want to make changes to satisfy their players and they will have to take us seriously.
