- We have no idea who took the other dogs and left Andrew behind, alone, for a whole year. Luckily, workers kept feeding him, but he wouldn't let anyone near him and finally someone who knew about #HopeForPaws contacted us for help. We definitely go the extra mile (or over 300 miles of a round trip) and we can do it only when we have your support. There is an important teaching moment here. In a situation where there is more than one dog, most people try to get whoever they can and it's usually the easiest one to get and what happens is that the more nervous dog sees his friends taken away, so he would not come closer and those animals are usually left behind.
The way we approach a situation like that is to focus on capturing the HARDEST dog FIRST because we are not as worried about spooking the easier, more trusting dog.
In this case, JoAnn Wiltz and Katie McKittrick had to do the long drive to the Mojave desert and had to only rescue one dog. They did a great job at not spooking him, they set up a trap and made sure he saw them driving away and this brought him back to his safe spot pretty quickly.

Clever place for the trap girls !!! My "always" favourite part is after the bubble bath, you envelop them in the towel and dry them with TLC. They seem to be back as a pup when their mum tooking care of them.

@@akau1340 Not everyone knows who to call. A surprising number of people still believe that calling on a dog will result in them in the "pound" and euthanized. They had to have cared for him regularly for him to have survived in the desert for a year.

I'll NEVER understand how anybody can abandon a dog ! Never. PETS ARE FAMILY !!! And how you can take 2 dogs away, but leave the third.That's cruel.
And he looks so terrible, terrible sad. So thank god that the wonderful and colorful duo came to his rescue and he now at last has a smile on his face. And it was nice to see Ziggy, the little cutie again, can't understand he hasn't been adopted yet.
P.S. It's so funny, that you always say good boy or good girl. Here in Denmark we've always just said good dog, so nobody gets offended :-))))))))

There is never an excuse to abandon an animal, there are options to surrender. Hope for Paws goes to the need and the majority of every dollar of donation goes to the animals care, from vet to final adoption, driving thousands of miles during the year requires tires and gas, dedication and physical day-in-day-out commitment and obvious efforts seen in these videos is truly priceless. Those small donations from lots of us add up and are just an item or two costs from your grocery cart once a month! Affordable even to me, retired on fixed income. We are a community of love.
And a regular donation is so easy to set up. I just have it billed to Paypal every month & I don't feel the pinch, even though I'm on a fixed income now, too.

How could anyone abandon a precious dog like him? He really is beautiful. You can't help but fall in love with him., unless you don't have a soul. God bless all the angels of mercy that rescue and treat and foster and adopt.
I may be wrong but I think the abandonment used in the title is referring to the people who took the other two dogs but gave up getting this dog. Andrew may have gotten lost or stolen. Making microchipping a requirement before a pet is given/sold to someone would put a good dent in pets being abandoned. The chip would say where they are from

No matter what a German Shepherd is going through, their eyes are never soulless. You can see the love when they have a loving home You can also see the hurt and pain when they are abused or abandoned. That look brings me to my knees.

Andrew seemed sad, a life in a dry dusty landfill is not fit for any living thing. So grateful for the people who called Hope for Paws and of course more grateful to the girls from Hope who went on the mission of love.
