Thank you for this video, my father has lung issues and his jeep patriot broke down late in the evening. Just from talking to him over the phone of the issues, I was able to pinpoint it to these issues and drove out late evening to replace the bad TB. Tried relearning, resetting and disconnecting the battery, all did not work.
My throttle body likes to act up when it’s cold outside , I just replaced it … it was fine while it was hot but now that it’s cooling down it acts up ( flashes for a few seconds , when it flashes it idles weird … just by me simply cranking up still in park … )
🤝Thank you for sharing this educational video with the RUclips community. I just came across this red lightning icon or symbol on my odometer/speedometer screen. When I searched what it meant, your video was at the top list. Thanks again for taking the time to make and share your helpful. 🤝
Great content. But just so you know the Red bolt will come on when the Crankcase and camshaft sensors are not working either. You can change the throttle body and still have trouble with the code going away. I changed my throttle body and the camshaft sensors and still had the code. When I then changed the crankcase sensor it cleared. So just so you all do not go crazy trying to clear the code with just the throttle body swap out.

@@antdjones05 Did you ever figure out the issue with your Patriot? I have a 2015 and this light comes on sometimes (not extremely often) it will run sluggish, I will have to stop and turn it back on while pressing on the break and it will be fine once restarted. Everything is pointing to the throttle body, I was thinking of replacing it and hoping that will fix the issue. I was wondering if it was your throttle body as well?
Did you ever figure out what the issue was? We have a Renegade latitude and the lightning bolt and check engine light came on. Ran a scan on it with codes p300 and p301. Changed all 4 spark plugs and coil packs. No codes detected but still won’t turn over. Don’t know what to do next.
Sometimes it’s a vacuum leak that will make all lights come on.. I think the throttle bottle is damaged when I bought the new intake manifold, I’m going to swap it out with the old one..
My engine light and the lighting warning came on and dropped the coolant needle all the way to cold i scanned the vehicle and it comes up as a throttle body and coolant temp sensor issue
@@raw_si_siht yea it clears itself after a few cold cycles but i recently had new cam and lifters installed maybe the shop didn't calibrate the throttle body correctly or something its a weird issue 😂🤦♂️🤔
@BlackSheep300 My problem is floating on the freeway and only the freeway. It gets dangerously close to cold on the gauge. Doing a little research it's either the thermostat or the coolant sensor...
I sure think so. My 2007 Sebring will throw this light on and “stutter” going around turns when it’s cold out and I haven’t given her 10+ minutes to warm up before moving.
excellent explanation for the lightning bolt symbol which as you said has activated my throttle body warning , i will clean it to see if it helps thanks!
2014 dodge journey, feels like the fuel pump is going, but I’m thinking it’s the TPS sensor. At idle when I stop, the idle on the rpm gauge will go up and down about the width of the needle. Acceleration is fine, but sometimes at cruising speed, it will surge, and goes away if I add more gas, or down shift to 5 gear. When climbing a hill, it’s worse. When I go through the mountains, 9/10 times, the lighting bolt comes on and goes away on a restart. I don’t get limp mode, but my engine temperature gauge stops working and I lose heat. Should I start with TPS sensor? 352,000km on it. Just had transmission done last year. Dealer replaced solenoid and some linkage stuff. New pan, filter, etc. last month I did oil cooler, starter, spark plugs, radiator, hoses, reservoir, air filter, thermostat. That’s why I thought it could be the fuel pump/filter?
Did you ever get it figured out? I’ve replaced so much stuff on my 2015 journey & now it’s doing what you described. Now it just won’t start. Just clicks. Alternator, starter, battery, solenoids & battery sensor are all new/tested good. Throttle body was replaced like 2 years ago along with new plugs & wires. Ran fine for a year then had to replace the crankshaft position sensor. Now this less than a year later.
@@whiskeykisses5079 no, I didn’t figure it out…I was blessed with a new driver trying to do a u turn in the middle of a highway and t-boned me on the driver side. Wrote it off, and got a 2019 jeep Cherokee trailhawk (fully loaded). But by the sounds of things you mentioned. I would check the wiring and connector of the crankshaft position sensor. I had this issue on a 1996 dodge neon.
@@whiskeykisses5079 what your describing is not mechanical, it’s electrical. If camshaft connector and wiring is good, then I would check all the other grounds (battery, starter, ignition). The starter could also be refurbished and failed. Give the started a few taps with a hammer or something solid. Can’t be/tell if it’s fuel related as there’s no starter action (just clicks). I would also firstly suggest, cleaning your battery terminals and/or battery
I just got that lightning ⚡ symbol and was due to weak battery so I jumped started deleted it all error codes and it worked well now... I'll have to find out what's causing the battery to die if I don't turn the vehicle on every day tho
I don't know much about vehicles but I had this issue (dodge dakota) a few months ago and had it fixed. Well the light is back on and earlier it didnt start the first few times, which is what happened the first time until it didnt start at all. I'm assuming thats going to happen the next time I try and start it. I know this is a hard question to ask online but any obvious reasons why it would go bad so shortly after being fixed? Faulty part, something else, etc? Also just had wheel bearings replaced and one is going bad. I'm so annoyed because TWO things I just had fixed already need to be replaced! Sorry for ranting... thanks for the good vid.
Pretty sure it might have been mentioned here....I own a 2011 dodge avenger 2.4l. this fall started throwing lighting bolt and anti slip light with idle ramp up. I'll I have been doing is shut off and crank up and it would be gone till next day. Has been getting worse. Now will go into limp mode sometimes on highway or engine just straight up dies noatter what speed. You have to pull over put in park. Shut key off and restart. Replaced throttle body and ambient air sensor in box. Still same problem. Seen someone somewhere mention after new intake was installed they never had problem again. So I grabbed brake cleaner. Started up and started spraying around intake. Everytime I would spray the last intake port on the right it would idle down. Pretty sure my intake is leaking. So I guess I need new intake or at least new orings installed on port. New part is roughly $220 if you do it yourself. You have to take it completely off to do oring gaskets anyway soight as well replace the whole thing in case there is a crack. 255k on my vehicle.
I took my resonators off of my 2021 dodge challenger and I started to see this light as I am starting my car, and it would go off after 1 to 2 seconds and never comes on after but do I still have something to worry about boss?
2016 jeep wrangler replaced thermostat, pedal, and throttle body. Light is still on dash flashing. Did the toggle with ignition, unplugged the battery, but still will not go off. Any ideas?
Cracked intake manifold or bad intake manifold gasket. Spray some carb spray between the intake manifold and engine cylinder head where it mates and around the intake manifold as well Listen for a change in the rpm’s.
this is driving me bunkers with my jeep wrangler jk (2012 6 speed sports 2 doors). thank you so much now I have more of an idea to better tackle this annoying symbol. Mine came on along with a temp sensor code after i replaced the water pump and timing cover gaskets. im assuming it came on because temp got over half way trying to burp the system i saw temp was going up and check engine light on with the lightning bolt. i shut it off it wouldnt start back til i pumped on foot feed at same time the fliud/coolant sucked down in funnel and it started circulating and i got heat from heater. so anyhow the code was for tempature sensor.
This was a very useful video, thanks! As it turns out, for the past couple of weeks, for the first time, I've noticed this light coming on in my '09 Grand Caravan (~150K mi.) But it's behaving a bit differently than you describe in the video. It comes on at engine start and stays on (steady) for about five seconds, then goes off and never comes on again, even during a several hour drive. No check engine light, no acceleration issues, no more than the "usual" rough running. The manual says it should come on when the engine is started, but I know it's never stayed on for this long before turning off. Do you think this is normal, or indicates a problem?
@@freecycling6687 well, as it turns out, i cleaned the throtte body and mass air sensor the other day. (Malwart sells a small can of each cleaner in a pack for about $10.) The mass air sensor had absolutely no dirt on it. However, the throttle body did. But the weirest thing is that there was a dried leaf stuck between the throttle plate and body. How did that ever get past the air cleaner is a mystery. Anyway, no more red war ing symbol on the dash for 2 days now. AND, probably just coincidence but the yellow check engine light, which had been throwing a p0073 code, fault with ambient air temp sensor, has ow gone out by itself without me clearing the code. Weird.
Just so everyone knows I changed my leaking intake manifold gasket and my problem went away. It was not the throttle body. Even tho I had the red lightning bolt and limp mode. Problem solved. I also had a leaking primary thermostat housing I replaced that too.

I did alternator spark plugs throttle body. Goin to battery now cus its still coming up. Every i listed was years since being changed so hoping battery is the last of this mess
I’m back with an update for 2020 dodge charger scatpack check engine light on throttle body service and I have recalibrated the throttle body through the gas pedal and after taking out fuse for engine module and stability control fuse after putting in the fuses and starting up the car check engine light went away for now I still haven’t cleaned the throttle body and clean my air filter
I have a 2011 Nitro 4.0 its having starting issues but will start if I mess with the pedal. It has no stored codes and the check engine lite turns off when it turns on. When I plugged a Snap-On scanner the Throttle Pedal position wasn't picking up any reading, but the car would rev up. But turned off it read but has a clear delay. The throttle body was all reading fine with no lag or anything. I'm lost because the pedal isn't sending signal but it's getting signal somehow. As far as I can tell the TPS is internal with the throttle body so I can't just pull that to check on this.
07 jeep JK fought that POS light for a year. Replaced throttle body and gas pedal. Helped but occasionally came on Finally replaced intake air temp sensor problem solved no.
Same here only when cold. Last time we noticed our engine oil was low. And the vehicle doesn't have a low oil warning and that can be one reason....at least by the videos we searched up. After adding oil it didn't happen again in the very cold weather.
thank you for being so thorough, and explicative. this happened on my 07 sahara unltd, just the way you described, and my mechanic replaced the pedal and throttle body. now, it idles at around 3K rpm when i turn it on, and only goes down to 800 when i depress the brake. as soon as i release the pressure on the brake, though, it ramps back up to 3K rpm. we didn’t know about resetting after installing the new throttle body. right now, we’re resetting the jeep’s computer. do you know if that’ll work as well?
I have the same thing happened to my 07 magnum rpm 2 rpm’s at idle. If it’s still idle high after replacing throttle body. It. Could be dirty fuel injectors. Or worse witch happened to me could be vacuum leak in the O ring how I found out was getting underneath the vehicle and looking under the engine and found carbon build up.

Have to relearn Trottlebody and the gas pedal, I believe you just stick your key in the ignition turn the key on wait for your check engine light starts flashing at you and then you slowly press the gas pedal all the way down let off of it turn off and then back on supposedly
I got the whole throttle body replaced after having an issue with the throttle body. The light kept coming on, tried cleaning it before replacing and it only stopped it for a week. Just went ahead and bought a knew one, now it comes on and flashes . It says it can take a while to relearn but I shouldn’t have it come on as often as it does . How do I fix this ?
I have this same problem now changed everything new still in limp mode poor acceleration trembling. Bout to buy the Map sensor on a 2010 Chrysler 300 3.5 V6 hope this works
I had this issue on my 23 Challenger I was on the highway and the car went into limp mode the gas pedal wouldn't work but the car accelerated on its own luckily I was able to slow it down with the brake pedal but it's slowly increase speed when I released the brake until I brought it down to lower than 60 miles an hour around 50/55 and then the pedal worked normal again 😮🤷
FYI ... Mine was not the throttle body.... Check the codes first... Mine was throwing 7 different codes... one of them being the crankshaft sensor and that's what my problem was. Every video I watched here said " throttle body" and I wasted 300 bucks on one..... Oh well lesson learned. Check the codes.
I replaced the throttle body, and the MAP sensor because the throttle control and traction control lights keep coming on. After I replaced the throttle body I got a code to replace the MAP sensor. I replaced that also. The throttle body and traction control lights are still coming on. The codes from O'Reilly's are still showing the MAP sensor needs to be replaced. Somebody told me that the traction control sensor might be dirty, and causing the problems. I do have a strut leaking hydraulic fluid. Do you think this could be causing the throttle body light to come on?
How do you check the Accelerator pedal sensor to see if that is bad ? I have clean the throttle body.Just like you said to our looks brand new again, but I'm still having the issue where the car is. Shaking with vibration when the red light lightning bolt comes on. When it's sitting in idle.
Hi I have 18/ram5500cmins 6.7 turbo diesel/. Light comes and goes. Sometimes stays for couple days. Truck works fine. I cleaned throttle body and air sensors and I replaced the batteries and erased the codes with 12+8 obd2 port as well. What else should I look ? Thanks.
This is happening on my son's 13' Jeep GC- It shuts off while he's driving it and leaves him sitting (often times in very dangerous places. ) He used to be able to get out, with the key, then get back in and it would start back up, but the last few days it doesn't seem to be working and he has to just sit for 10, 20+++ minutes and hope it starts back up. Any suggestions would be most appreciated!
I took it to autozone and they said it would most likely be a fuel pump issue. I just replaced the throttle body. Did not calibrate it (caliber srt4). Could this be the issue?
Mine flashes and goes away but there there’s days where it flickers fast and doesn’t go away. Can start it but truck has no power on acceleration. Clueless on what it is
I got same problem replaced map sensor and throttle body. No codes come up but after driving for a while the throttle body warning light comes back. How can I fix this issue?
Looking for some help on my situation. I have a 2014 Dodge Journey and I recently replaced my throttle body with a Dorman brand. I have done the pedal reset, disconnecting the battery cables, and still it does not last more than a week before it goes right back into limp mode. Do I need to find someone who can program the new throttle body to my cars computer? I am stuck, and don’t feel confident driving my car without having to constantly reset it. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have this alarm but I also have a pedal commander on my challenger if cut it off but it still gives me this lightning bolt alarm gonna remove it all together
I just replaced throttle body and battery, my thermostat is bad but I didn't have the money to get that yet. 08 v6 dodge ram. Fine for a week, now half the light flicker and it'll turn over but dies down before starting. I'l just be left sitting there in the parking spot. @@Top5AutoRepairs I do live in hawaii so that's plausible but Its not always wet when it happens. the only thing on the list to fix this that I haven't already fixed is my wires or the computer. & no check engine light or anything associated with it. the only time I was able to get a code I drove to a shop to get scanned while it was blinking. this evening I am running a friend's computer to read the whole trip so we can figure out what is triggering it. it's been a long 6+ months trying to diagnose this issue. it only ever happens on my commute home from work & at night, no other time.. off roading to road tripping. was even considering my headlights having something to do with it since that's only when they are on. what i can figure out is why the abs turns on directly after? btw, 2009 jeep wrangler jku

2020 dodge charger scatpack had this pop up and my car jerked back and forth then went limp mode and gave me a code for P2101 thank you for this info will try cleaning the throttle body as ever since I took off my oil catch can due to it being illegal in California I’ve been having issues with my scatpack any scatpack owners should be wary of the sludge build up that happens in these cars not just the pistons/rings and lifters giving you lifter tick (Lucas injector cleaner helps with tick) but now I have this issue
lifter tick is not caused by sludge issues. It's caused because Dodge switched the hemis from the original 5w-30 oil to 0w-20. Put 5w-30 oil back in and you won't hear the tick.
I just replaced my throttle body cleaned mass air flow too and a few weeks later it's still throwing red lightning bolt when it did do it only when cold with oem one
I have a 2008 Jeep Wrangler that I just replaced the intake manifold gasket put it back together and it’s doing exactly what you just said did not do it before so should I be looking at the throttle body?

What if it just doesn’t turn on ? Or after a few minutes it does ? I hate dodge journeys. I got this car brand new and it has been tearing up every since !
It doesn’t have a code at all. I’m thinking it’s throttle body for sure because when it does throw a code it shows up and then both lights disappear. I am going to take it to the dealership and get it replaced.

Mine is a 2018 dodge journey with a push start ignition. My engine light came on a few days ago but turned itself off after a day or two. It came back on last night and when I left the store, it took 2 tries to start it. Then it was running poorly and sounded like it could die. It also had the electronic stability and throttle control lights came on. It wouldn't go over 10 to 15 mph with the pedal to the floor. I got home and shut it off, then immediately started it again. It ran perfectly and all faults had cleared themselves. Throttle power was also back to normal. Any thoughts?

Did you do the "accelerator pedal" relearn or an actual relearn procedure with a scan tool? It's my understanding that the pedal relearn is hit or miss depending on the vehicle (it doesn't work on an 09 Grand Caravan, for example), whereas using a scan tool should always work, unless of course there's some other problem.
Having this issue on 14 caravan replaced throttle body replaced gas pedal replaced crankshaft sensor n still can't start the car tried relearning the sensor it won't even relearn with scan tool or manually

@@whiskeykisses5079 also. Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, may reset everything and it will start
Last but not least, hopefully it’s not the push start button
I just got that lightning ⚡ symbol and was due to weak battery so I jumped started deleted it all error codes and it worked well now... I'll have to find out what's causing the battery to die if I don't turn the vehicle on every day tho
Did you find out?
thanks for the tip on cleaning the valve!
Same thing happened to me…just had it fixed. 2 weeks later? Bamb!! Same problem. Did you get yours fixed again ? Can you tell me what happened ?
Thank you brother. I found this very helpful
Glad I found this video! Subscribed ‼️
Awesome! Thank you!
I took my resonators off of my 2021 dodge challenger and I started to see this light as I am starting my car, and it would go off after 1 to 2 seconds and never comes on after but do I still have something to worry about boss?
Had that happen w my jeep. Now it’s on permanently so maybe wanna get it checked out
2016 jeep wrangler replaced thermostat, pedal, and throttle body. Light is still on dash flashing. Did the toggle with ignition, unplugged the battery, but still will not go off. Any ideas?
Maybe it's the plug for the throttle body
Cracked intake manifold or bad intake manifold gasket.
Spray some carb spray between the intake manifold and engine cylinder head where it mates and around the intake manifold as well
Listen for a change in the rpm’s.
this is driving me bunkers with my jeep wrangler jk (2012 6 speed sports 2 doors).

If anyone here can help me out further with your solutions and ideas please let me know I would greatly appreciate you.
again Thank you my friend! 2 thumbs up. merry Christmas and a happy prosperous new year to you , family and all in here. God bless!
My 2008 TC acts just as you described.
@@vanamee692 Thanks. Must be normal. Been doing this for quite a while, no actual problems.
Weird.
@@vanamee692 Thanks for that, very helpful. Haven gotten around to tackling this yet, since it hasn't turned into an actual problem (yet!)
If it flashes and goes Away thats fine? So its supposed to pop up every time and go away if there are no problems currently?
Thanks brother you helped me figure out the problem
Just so everyone knows I changed my leaking intake manifold gasket and my problem went away. It was not the throttle body. Even tho I had the red lightning bolt and limp mode. Problem solved. I also had a leaking primary thermostat housing I replaced that too.
The intake to the throttle

Did you have any problems starting it?

This happens to my dads dodge caliber but ONLY when its cold
Exactly the same problem with my 2009 caliber. And it looses power when the light shows up
What’s the solution
Exactly same here
Same here only when cold. Last time we noticed our engine oil was low. And the vehicle doesn't have a low oil warning and that can be one reason....at least by the videos we searched up. After adding oil it didn't happen again in the very cold weather.

why on my Chrysler 300 it comes on for a second then go away and nothing happen could it be a glitch ?
I also have service 4 wheel drive light on. At the same time, do you have a diagnosis for that?
Same. You ever figure this out?
thank you for being so thorough, and explicative. this happened on my 07 sahara unltd, just the way you described, and my mechanic replaced the pedal and throttle body. now, it idles at around 3K rpm when i turn it on, and only goes down to 800 when i depress the brake. as soon as i release the pressure on the brake, though, it ramps back up to 3K rpm. we didn’t know about resetting after installing the new throttle body. right now, we’re resetting the jeep’s computer. do you know if that’ll work as well?
I have the same thing happened to my 07 magnum rpm 2 rpm’s at idle. If it’s still idle high after replacing throttle body. It. Could be dirty fuel injectors. Or worse witch happened to me could be vacuum leak in the O ring how I found out was getting underneath the vehicle and looking under the engine and found carbon build up.
If you got a code reader let me know what codes show up if you didn’t get it fixed yet

Have to relearn Trottlebody and the gas pedal, I believe you just stick your key in the ignition turn the key on wait for your check engine light starts flashing at you and then you slowly press the gas pedal all the way down let off of it turn off and then back on supposedly
could it be the battery or the alternator? mine just happened on my 05 chrysler 300
How did you get it to relearn? Update please
I have this same problem now changed everything new still in limp mode poor acceleration trembling. Bout to buy the Map sensor on a 2010 Chrysler 300 3.5 V6 hope this works
New throttle body still lightening ⚡ bolt
I had this issue on my 23 Challenger I was on the highway and the car went into limp mode the gas pedal wouldn't work but the car accelerated on its own luckily I was able to slow it down with the brake pedal but it's slowly increase speed when I released the brake until I brought it down to lower than 60 miles an hour around 50/55 and then the pedal worked normal again 😮🤷
Would this cause the car to have electrical issues as well like the wipers turning on randomly ?
When the battery starts to die, the vehicles start doing all kinds of funny stuff

If you see condensation on the windshield then condensation can also get into the engine bay and affect the throttle body wires. I recommend to check for corrosion right at the connection.

Mine is a 2018 dodge journey with a push start ignition. My engine light came on a few days ago but turned itself off after a day or two. It ran perfectly and all faults had cleared themselves. Throttle power was also back to normal. Any thoughts?

What if the throttle body doesn’t get relearn? I clean mine out and relearn it but it still stays open
