I read some folks talking about belts and I'll drop my .02¢ as a random guy on the internet. Focus on learning the art whatever it may be.. train, listen, pay attention, ask for help, and ask questions. dude, its so important that you roll with your professors/coaches/instructors. Rolling with them is basically them allowing you to show what you got, offense, defense, neutral, 50/50's, etc. Mine specially will tell me what's good whats a dead-end, micro-adjustments when we roll, and its such a confidence boost to get a direct feedback.
I trained 5 - 6 days a week when i first started. the thing was i was huge on bike riding, would ride about 16 miles a day for about 3 years before i started BJJ. it was a huge help with learning fasted since i didnt have to worry about conditioning at all (kinda) but a black belt told me to chill TF out and come around 3 times a week. and it was the best advice for me....work hard guys, just dont kill yourself trying to move up. BJJ is a full of advancements through out a lifetime. stay healthy and train hard.
Specifically today, I got the chance to roll with my instructor. While rolling, I could tell he's feeling me out and letting me go places, seeing if I'm watching frames and balancing. He said while rolling that he liked the control at levels across the body, called out my transitions from positions to submissions, and the consistency of my effort throughout the roll. We rolled for about 15-20 minutes non-stop and the entire time I felt like I was being quizzed, and I WAS! Bottom line, roll with your instructors, talk to them, ask questions after you roll about positions, and show consistency.
Summary 8:15 1. Focus your training - take coach's feedback and work on it - it might feel like you are regressing (it might be in the short run), however, in the long run you will be a better well-rounded grappler

I did BJJ for Eleven years (started at age 5), and always kept the same schedule. One hour a day on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. I started in the kids system and then joined the adult system at age 13. I always had extra water in my bag with some protein bars, and always worked on my conditioning. Hey Jedi...going to my 4th week now and having trouble with sore ribs from getting smashed and rolling. Any advice on how to deal with that and prevent it from happening?
Same here my ribs hurt from last week lol, still training tho
@@tristanbeck9902 yeah I'm still going as well. It sucks though. If someone gets on my side or press against my chest my ribs hurt like hell
@@rodrigozombie yea fr, and we were working side control this whole week too so it’s been ass, most likely a bruised rib, but oh well.
@@tristanbeck9902 yep. Let's keep grinding, bro. Good luck on your training!
Update: my ribs don't hurt anymore 🤣
Is that intro music for making the drink from the Sims 2?!
If you ever come to Washington we should roll and then skate. I'm a super scrub at BJJ but I could probably teach you a couple tricks skating
That’d be sick. Shoot me a dm on ig and I’ll hit you up when I come out !
