Living 6 Weeks In Turkey IS NOT What We Expected

  • We lived 6 weeks in the beautiful country of Turkey.
Turkey used to be one of the cheaper countries to visit in Europe, but that has changed over the last year or two with inflation. Prices have increased so much and it's no longer cheap.
We weren't quite prepared for this, but we made the best of our time here. We started out in Antalya where we stayed for a little under 3 weeks. It's a beautiful coastal town and has lots to do. We share our experience visiting the Old Town Bazaar and exploring the old town of Kaleici.
We then made our was to Side for a week long vacation at the Side Mare resort. This was our first true vacation since we started traveling over a year ago. It is an all inclusive resort so most of our days were spent at the pool and eating at the buffets. We did make it out for a day to the ancient city to explore however and brought you along to see the ancient ruins.
Next we made our way to the capital city of Istanbul where we stayed for another two weeks. Istanbul is a large city but with old town vibes. It's quite walkable and has tons to do. It's also the only city in the world that occupies both Asia and Europe. We visited the Asia side of Istanbul while we were here and documented the experience.
During our stay in Istanbul, we booked a quick trip to Cappadocia. I'm so glad we included this trip in our plans because it turned out to be the highlight of our time in Turkey. We stayed for a total of 4 days and 3 nights at the Adelya Cave Hotel.
Each day was filled with adventure as we explored the city of Goreme, woke up early one day to catch the magical experience of the Hot Air balloons floating above us, explored an ancient castle made from volcanic stone called Uchisar Castle, and ventured underground through the world's largest underground city at Derinkuyu. We documented all 3 days of our adventures to share with you.
We then returned to Istanbul and before leaving, we wanted to experience one of the World's largest and oldest markets; The Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. One of our favorite things to do when visiting a city is to check out the local markets and this was one of the largest we've ever been to. We didn't get to explore it all, but we bring you along on our journey as we sample various Turkish Delights, Turkish Tea, and allow the kids to find something to spend 200 Turkish Lira on. It was a great time.
Overall our experience living 6 weeks in Turkey was not what we expected because of the high prices, we enjoyed our time here and made some lasting memories.
Thank you so much for watching!

After living in Turkey 6 weeks and if you say : "Next we made our way to the capital city of Istanbul where we stayed for another two weeks." you should question yourself. To be honest, I am significantly disagreeing that Turkish prices should be so cheap. Turkey should not be an open air slave house or open air brtohel like Thailand for developed countries.

Heres something off topic that you may find interesting. :)
The name of my country has nothing to do with the interesting and delicious bird 'turkey'......
.....but the name of the bird does have a connection with the name of my country, let me explain. :)
In the past 40 years 37 countries have changed their name, partially or fully.
Obviously one can not change the name of an apple or an orange etc in other languages,
but country names are like peoples' individual names, so if you're named John we don't call you Karen. :)
Name of my country has always been Türkiye, it's been known as such since around the 1200's.
The name it self has a suffix, '-iye', that is Turk-iye, where the -iye suffix means 'land of/belonging to',
just like the Latin suffix of '-ia', which exists in such country names like
    Austr-ia, Austral-ia, Indones-ia etc.
Basically, the use of '-iye/-ia' is the same as the the use of '-land' suffix in country names like
Ire(Eire)-land, Po(le)-land, Eng(Anglo)-land and so on and so on.
Many would remember the country Czechoslovak-ia which changed it's name to Czech Republic and a few years ago changed that to Czechia (that is Czech-ia).
The Latin suffix -ia probably originates from Turkish -iye as Turkish been over 10,000 years is much older than Latin which is around 1300 years old.
Spelled in different languages in different ways to phonetically resemble (to sound like) 'Türkiye'
    we got various spellings like;
    Turq-uía (in Spanish),
    Turch-ia (in Italian),
    Turq-uie (in French)
    Turk-ei (in German)
    Turk-ey (in English)
Mind you this was way before the animal we currently know as turkey was found by the europeans when they explored the north americas. The bird was first sent to europe from north americas in the year 1519, so up until that point there was no bird named turkey....
...they came across the bird and thought it was a specie of the fowl/chicken they had been buying from the country of Turkiye at the time, so they named the bird 'Turkey Fowl' to define 'Turkish Chicken'...
....just like how a dog breed is known as German Shepherd (because it's from Germany), American Bulldog, British Terrier, Greek Harehound etc etc.
In time you don't get to call the harehound simply as Greek or you don't call the terrier Britirsh, or shepherd as simply German,
but in time the Turkish Fowl started to be called just 'Turkey' and later 'turkey', and this went on for hundreds of years.
Now in modern times, this caused confusion, especially when we have people across the world unable to point to their own country on an atlas.
Basically we didn't change the name of our country, we changed the mistake made in the English language. : )
So, there's some tid bit information for you to have a great day, if you read upto this point you have a great night too, ohh just have a wonderfull life. : )
    Best wishes. ;)

When I compare the prices in New York and Istanbul not much different. That tool, which is like a surfboard and has stones on it, is an agricultural tool and was used during harvest time. Imagine it tied to a horse, mule or donkey with ropes. The farmer would get on it and use his(sometimes 2-3 person on it) weight to pass over the grains over and over again, thus separating the seeds from the plant. In short.
The mountains formed Cappadocia region are Hasan Mountain and Erciyes Mountain , both are volcanoes. With the help of erosion, rain, wind, hot/cold weather temperature differences you know what happened there from the rock(tufa stone) formations.

'Güle güle' is said by the person who stayed or didn't leave the place. When you leave somewhere you say to the person who stays there "hoşçakal' or 'Allahaısmarladık'
    Leaving person: hoşçakal/hoşçakalın/Allahaısmarladık
Staying person in response: Güle güle (güle güle gidin güle güle gelin which means you go happily and you come happily.)
Allahaısmarladık: I want Allah to protect you- it is like one-word pray

That flat wooden slab with teeth-like rocks inserted across the bottom is called 'doven' which roughly translates into english as 'the grinder'. It's so named because it was used by the farmers to mash stacks of grain ears to seperate the debris from the grains. Kind of like a primitive version of the combined grain harvester. Typically a couple of horses or oxen would pull the doven in circle motion to grind the haystacks of grain ears for about 5 or 6 hours till the grain seeds are throughly seperated from the hays. Then, to seperate the grains from the hay, the farmers would throw the mashed debris into the air with 'yabas', or shovels, which the wind blows away the light fibre of hays and the heavy beads of grain would fall straigh on the ground. Here is a video ruclips.net/video/w6S1wmJ0BKQ/видео.html

Maybe To be learned on a tourist trip in his memory. 1:47:38 Toktar Ebubekirov is first turkish cozmonot from Kazakhstan he is 73 years.
I'm not comparing, but Farisi died in Gaziantep, he had nothing to do with Cappadocia. Cappadocia trips were aimed at Arabs, the Ministry of Tourism can made it , it was not bad , but it's irrelevant. We can't ask why a tourist doesn't have as much purchasing power as the Arabs who come to our country and become rich.

But who can see the open door from money bazaar,ı mean normal rich people are too many ultra-rich people anymore. Nobody understands what they did while we were doing the same job for the same salary. You cannot become this rich by buying, selling and earning anyway, the ultra-rich class must, has an organization and the Turkish people still have not revolted.
