But, as you stated, all these 'controversial' cases being dredged up by anti-cop reporters in which rabid ex-felons get to post anti-cop vitriol in the comments all boil down to the same thing--it is ALWAYS the criminals' faults. This one is no different.

You must remember Police Officers have to operate within guidelines for everyone's safety. Henry Co. should have had more involvement in this pursuit, Muncie Police should have been more involved. Most every Law Enforcement Agency in Indiana operates on a common radio system with radio channels for everyone to communicate over. None of that occurred. This pursuit should have been terminated once it started to enter residential areas where children were going to school. I hope the prosecutor holds all parties responsible for this.

The officer has no idea why the car was 'speeding'. Speeding alone is not a criminal offense... IT turned into a felony and criminal offense AFTER the officer activated his lights and went into pursuit mode..... DEPENDING how serious the cause for pursuit was, is the reason how long the pursuit takes place before being called off. DON'T YOU listen to the scanner or watch RUclips chase videos??? EVERT pursuit is given official approval shortly after it starts and CALLED off when it's deemed dangerous.! Especially pit maneuvers.... Hindsight is always 20/20, but in the moment, the Officer made the call to pursue but the responsibility for the chase, the crash and the death rests solely on the CRIMINAL who chose to run. Whether or not a Supervisor checked in or not has no bearing on if the pursuit was justified. Every Officer straight from the academy or with 20+ years, has been trained to have the judgement needed to make the call. Period.

There are a number of factors to consider as an officer during a pursuit. What is the want? What are traffic conditions? You don't want to be chasing someone for speed when there are too many other cars on the road. Back off and follow at distance. You don't want to contribute the the death or injury of innocent people.

  • @georgespalding7640

The cop definitely violated rules as it was obvious the rules were stated as he should have had supervision. A supervisor would have pulled him off of this chase when he got into a 30 mph zone and the chase was going 90 mph that can only end in death. High speed police chases almost always end in death or injury. They should be called off when they get dangerous. They have the license number of the car they can go after the person at their house. The police chases are never worth the death of innocent civilians.

Internal review what a joke,it's obvious that the pursuit should have been terminated within the first few miles of the chase.and yes a few heads need to roll and the officer, sheriff deputy, what ever maybe needs to never wear a badge again because of poor judgment at minimum. But I would give him a year in county jail with sheriff and the duty Sargent.
