Kyoto Japan Street Market! Walk around Nishiki Market【4K】

KYOTO, JAPAN. Follow us down "Nishiki Ichiba" (or Nishiki Market), which is affectionately referred to as "Kyoto's Kitchen". This shopping arcade is located in Nakagyo-ku Ward of Kyoto City, and has been around for more than 400 years! It was first established during the Heian period (794-1192), and soon transformed into a bustling market used by locals during the Edo period (1603-1868).
🇯🇵Fun Fact: Although Kyoto is not a seaside city, why are there so many fresh fish markets lining the streets of Nishiki Ichiba? It's the abundance of cold groundwater that runs beneath the street, which is often used to preserve fish and poultry, seen as a "natural refrigerator".
In addition to the local fresh food shops, we recommend stopping by the handicraft goods, modern cafes, places to eat a meal, confectionary shops, and more! There are over 150 shops that line this street, so you'll have plenty to see.
