  • In Episode 66 of ‘Cars, Shops & Collections’ we check out a 1966 Dodge Coronet Deluxe - True Police Car Package. This car is fascinating, but the owner and story behind the car is even better!
Meet Mr. D’Angelo, the proud owner of this classic 1966 Coronet. Mr. D’Angelo boasts an impressive background as a police officer in Pasadena, California, where he served for over three decades (plus nine years in Las Vegas). Officer D’Angelo joined the force in December of 1967 when these very patrol cars were in active service. The Coronet he possesses had a previous life as a Police Patrol Car in Washington State, after acquiring the car Mr. D’Angelo skillfully reconfigured the car to meet the stringent specifications of the Pasadena Police department.
In this episode we get the history behind this patrol car, stories from Mr. D’Angelo’s time on the force AND a test drive with sirens!
Mr. D’Angelo reconfigured the car with custom made light platter and B&M Siren that was used at the time. It was built with a 318 CI, 230 HP engine and 727 Transmission as a full police car package.
Be sure and check out other episodes of “Cars, Shops & Collections.” Every week I feature the stories behind classic cars and the people that own them.

@@CarsShopsAndCollections Thank you. He drove it for 30 years (his one and only new car) before retiring it to weekend warrior duty. I've got several vids of it on my channel, from its last day at my parents house to its current state (unrestored but rebuilt the original drivetrain).

That's an impressive, immersive scout car! Lots of attention paid to the interior 'minutiae' that the average vintage or even replica doesn't think to include.
Informative video, thank you - but what's with the low Likes folks?? That siren *alone* is with the Thumbs Up, but there's so much more content in this clip!

    Pete Malloy:
    You know what this is?
    Jim Reed:
Yes sir, it's a police car.
    Pete Malloy:
This black and white patrol car has an overhead valve V8 engine. It develops 325 horsepower at 4800 RPM's. It accelerates from 0 to 60 in seven seconds; it has a top speed of 120 miles an hour. It's equipped with a multi channeled DFE radio and an electronic siren capable of admitting three variables, wail, yelp, and alert. It also serves as an outside radio speaker and public address system. The automobile has two shotgun racks, one attached to the bottom portion of the front seat, one in the vehicle trunk. Attached to the middle of the dash, illuminated by a single bulb is a hot sheet desk. Fastened to which you will always make sure is the latest one off the teletype before you ever roll.
    Jim Reed:
    Yes sir.
    Pete Malloy:
It's your life insurance and mine. You take care of it and it'll take care of you.
    Jim Reed:
Yes sir. You want me to drive?

I like that Buick LeSabre sitting in the garage, too...I have a '76 Valiant that is an A38-spec suspension, cooling & steering (with upgrades), 12" rotor swap, 340 instead of a 318, and a 4-speed stick (A-833 OD) with an 8.75/3.23 sure-grip. Just got an '89 AHB Gran Fury that the guy bought from auction, drove a little, then put away next to his '74 Gran Fury A38 440-powered car. Funny thing? Both the GF and the Valiant were given to me, paid $0 for them.
The Poly's are cool because they are semi-hemi, very torquey. Many wish Chrysler had kept developing them in the "Late- A" motor vein.

I wish he’d given more details about the (non police package)Adam 12 TV car.I’d heard before that it -unlike the real LAPD cars -had power steering.I assumed it had the correct 383 in it (though)as it sounded great (road runner ish).

The Adam 12 cars from what I understand where leased to Mark VII productions. not owned by the studio

  • @Brianscoronet
    @Brianscoronet 2 месяца назад +1

I highly doubt thats a police car, cop cars use 383 4 barrel engines. That 318 poly head is only 230 horsepower. All the cop cars used in the adam 12 tv series had 383 4 Barrel engines with either 325 horsepower or 330 horsepower. There's a episode where martin milner describes the engine on a 1967 Plymouth belvedere with a 383 4 barrel with 325 horsepower. A coo car with a 318 wouldn't be able to catch any muscle cars back in the 60's.
