    Most people nowadays just want a network bridge a dedicated streamer without a built in sub par integrated dac, with balanced outs with good software at a lower price

    I suspect that this product line may cannibalize sales from NAD, especially the Icon for which I'm keenly awaiting reviews. I've an M10 V1 to which outboard amplification has been added which has elevated the listening experience considerably. The Icon will get Dirac, has by all accounts a much better DAC than the M10 and suddenly the M10 is irrelevant as the core of a streaming system - with external amplification anyway - and at a much more reasonable price point. Dirac which is something is something rarely reviewed adds another layer of awesome on top - it makes a huge difference when implemented correctly. Both use BluOS so one should be a drop in replacement for the other. I'm amazed the Icon was permitted to exist given Bluesound and NAD have the same parent and exist side by side.
    So please bring forth a review of the Icon for those of us with a keen interest in this line of products.

    Thank you Ed for this sneak peak.
    With reference to the latter end points you make re Sonos and the mess they appeared to have made to their own customer bed sheets. This would seem to take on quite nicely the port or even older Sonos customers such as myself for the Connect.
    My S1 app for my now 12 years old connect is almost unusable with constant file playback issues after the s2 updates. So a nice side step to this vs the node could fit the bill perfectly, so I say thank you again for your work and help bringing this to my attention.
    Regards

    Wiim Ultra with screen, HDMI, Line-in & out, opt in & out, phone in (SQ??) Sub out, room EQ (basic but not bad) for £30 more. Case use dependant of course, but for starting a system or for pure ability, I cannot see why you'd choose this unless you bound to Bluesound.

    • @Audiorevue
      @Audiorevue 4 месяца назад +4

      I think he says why you would choose it about the halfway point. The fact that blue OS going all the way back to their earliest products, those earliest products are still supported and you can still plug them in and hook them up and still stream music and use them, I know it's still early for whim but I would bet my hard-earned money that in a few years time that won't be the case with them.
      Also frankly speaking a friend of mine got the whim mini and I checked it out and it worked obviously but I thought the software wasn't as polished as the blue OS software, I mean it's not bad but it's just not as good, and if I'm going to be interacting with a piece of software constantly I want that software to be as faultless as possible and blue OS is that. Another thing is not everybody wants inputs and outputs on a streamer, that's why I have my amplifier, sure it's convenient but ultimately on most of these products that have ins and outs I don't use them, so why should I buy a product with them?
      Sorry for some of the spelling I'm using voice to text. And by the way don't take my comments as a knock against whim, I think they've created a nice space for themselves And ultimately make a nice product but me personally I think the bluesound stuff is just better

    • @MohsinWadee
      @MohsinWadee 4 месяца назад +1

      Why you'd choose this over the WiiM Ultra? Cheapaudioman has just reviewed both and thinks the Nano sounds better than the Ultra. So it's more features over SQ. Pick your horse.

      @@Audiorevue Valid points. TBF I'm coming from this from a position where I want the connections. At some point I've always added things to my gear. I have a headphone DAC that has 2x XLR in 2X RCA in. XLR out and RCA out and sub out
      In a few months I've gone from just headphone out, to using every in and out.
      I have very quickly used Blue OS years ago and did like it, but I don't have issues with Wiim either. I don't have issues at al with this, it just poses a risk I will outgrow it and something not really worse sounding that isn't a risk in buying.

      Blue sound is of higher quality then the wiim. There is a new node “icon” coming in the fall that is far superior to the ultra dual sabre dac chips with high quality implementation and and parts. 5” screen, state of the art preamp, balanced XLR, Dirac room correction instead of using your phones mic in the ultra and plethora of connections. Randy from CAM said he thinks this nano sounds better the all the wiim products including the ultra, came out today see for yourself.
