After seeing your videos, I was convinced to buy a metro myself. I live in the desert , and am disabled as well. You are right that this has been a Godsend purchase for mobility. It's my grocery getter, my freedom, my legs. Running it 2 years now since I moved back to Tucson. Keep up the informative videos and Know how gratfull I am to you. Thankyou

HUGE, BIG THANKS for making this video! I was in the middle of an upgrade just like yours but was uncertain about whether the wiring needed to be changed. I was afraid I might make a costly mistake but thanks to you, I didn’t!
I’ve been very disappointed in my echo smart because I am now on my fourth motor. I have only had it four months. I don’t abuse it. I live in a small community where our pool is located about 2/10 of a mile from my home. It’s on a slight downhill grade. I don’t use much power getting there and Have no difficulty returning home until I’ve made four or five trips. I burned out the first motor after about 20 trips. The second motor after about 12 and the third motor after about 12 trips. I always recharge the battery every time I park the scooter. I weigh 200 pounds so that should not be a causative factor.
The scooter is now out of warranty but I did purchase an extended warranty and they are sending me another motor. If you have any insight as to what I might do to extend the life of the motor I would appreciate it.

Good job. Since the wire used is basically the same color, wrap a stripe of black electrical tape on the negative wires so that when you look at them again, you can easily identify negative from positive. I like your analogy of comparing battery capacity to fuel tank size.

Nice video. I have the same EcoSmart scooter and love cruising around and going to the store and what not. I am already researching and thinking about putting a brush-less motor, Lithium battery pack, new controller and seeing if I can get another 10 mph+ and about 30 or so miles in range. I think this is more than doable and for a very reasonable price if I get the parts sent from China.
Thanks again for showing what improvements you have done and are working on for the future. I"ve been watching and commenting on your videos for almost a year now.
    Thumbs up as always

@@chrisg307 ..... I've found a few that should work but I have yet to purchase any. Just when I was starting to put a little extra money away, the damned pandemic kinda threw me for a spin.
When I end up purchasing one, I can post you back and let you know what I have chosen and set up.
I have to do a little more research on the electronics of stats of the motor and the controller to make sure it all can handle a lithium swap out. It really shouldn't be a problem if the charging port is bypassed because it won't work with lithium batteries. I am planning on just mounting the actual charging plug from he lithium pack using the same side cutout where the stock charging port is now mounted.
I hope you are doing great with your scooter, cuz they really are a lot of fun.

    • @TailsFurse
      @TailsFurse 4 года назад +1

@@wacoachrusso its to do with some kind of weird thing they did internally in the battery. The voltage of these 15ah batteries is slightly higher than that of a regular battery.
When I had these in my scooter, the scooter went slightly faster! 20mph, instead of 17mph. But the range was far less than I thought it would . Never figured it out. I ended up using these batteries for my electric lawn mower instead.
If you are looking for batteries to get ya further, I would pass on these.

I'm doing my Razor ecosmart battery upgrade today as soon as the mailman gets here with my third battery. Thanks for your video I'll probably watch it again to make sure I've got it. Since my bike is brand new is there anyway to remove the solder on the stock batteries in order to reuse them? I don't know the proper way to unsolder or desolder a battery.... Thanks for your video. it was helpful to see the inside of the battery compartment untouched with the lid open w/out having to open the scooter up. Im curious about all of your upgrades and how they have affected the speed of your scooter? The weakness of the ecosmart razor is that it is very bad going up hills, and battery life/performance is not that great from the stock setup. I like your attempts to upgrade, but I am guessing that the much larger tires and much larger batteries have produced a significant overall weight increase in the scooters total weight. I would think this would affect the performance, especially if you are an adult on the heavy side of the maximum weight of the scooter's capacity which I believe is 220lbs for the stock motor. How is your speed now? I am guessing that after your tires were upgraded the battery upgrade was almost mandatory because of the size/weight increase. I have an ecosmart and I really like it, but I question sometimes these "upgrades" people like to do maybe in the end sometimes they are not always worthwhile with the battery upgrade being maybe the exception. Also did the bamboo lid fit back snug after the larger taller batteries were installed? Thanks again for taking the time to make the video ;)

These EcoSmart Metro scooters were awesome a few years ago but the lead acid batteries suck. I just got a Hiboy S2 Pro and it's far superior. It's faster, has a longer range with a lithium ion battery. Also, it has a headlight/tail light and a battery indicator/speedometer. It has shocks too. I weigh 250 and I get around 14-16 miles of range. You can customize the top speed with the app and I keep the top speed set at 19 mph.

hey man, I upgraded my batteries to three 12V 12 Amp batteries and after a week, they all swelled up so bad, they fused together. I read from a Google search, this is due to over charging. Did you experience this problem with your upgrade? Did you change anything but the batteries and if not, how do you charge your batteries so you don't over charge them? The history of the three batteries I used were from two electric kids ride on karts and all of the batteries are at least 3 years old. I also left the charger plugged in a couple nights over night because the red light never went to green. I thought the red light never turning green meant it simply took much longer to charge since it was almost twice as a large as of the factory 7amp batteries. Can you help? Thank you!

THEY HAVE A 15AH THAT IS THE SAME SIZE AS YOUR 12A, MORE THAN DOUBLE 7AH. FULL 36V IS 44V.

Hey there! I grabbed the 15ah batteries and put them into this same scooter. They seem to put out less energy than 7ah batteries! I got 7 miles on 7ah batteries, the 15ah batteries are only going 5.5 miles! Might have gotten defective batteries though!

If the voltage increase's why doesn't the amperage, doesn't seem logical to say that the wiring of them side by side of 3 - 12 volt battery's would give you 36 volt, but the 7 amps don't add up to 21 amps. Just asking, and why not use the might mite 12 volt 15 amp to actually double your run time.
I believe there exactly the same size and or a little bigger like the battery's you replacement of the old one's with but like you say the the higher the amps the further we go, the cost for the mighty mites is about 100.00 bucks. Hope to hear from you again in another video and that all goes well for you on your travels.

When you double or triple the voltage by wiring in series, the amps stay the same.
When you wire in parallel you up the amperage, but the volts stay the same.
I looked at all my options and chose the 12ah. That's why I didn't go with mighty mites. I trust Keyko batteries, plain and simple.

@@BNeilBrown Well from what I have come to understand the only increase happened when you went to 12 amp, regardless of how there wired, the voltage and the amperage remains the same, but by buying 12 amp verse's remaining with the 7 amp, you had a overall increase of 5 amps from the old.
I'll check on the brand you mentioned and see if they have the 15 amp at the same size, which is the other consideration, if they don't fit, it won't work. So far measurement wise the mighty max / mites are the one's to check in on the, at a 100 bucks will see what Keyko has thanks. good luck on your travels and God be with you my friend, P&L ( : > ).

Far easier to buy (3) lith, 12v 12ah, for $35 each out of china, OR 36v 12ah battery $120

Nope. This back can't use the lith batteries. Lith ebike batteries do not have the discharge rate needed for this motor and controller. Lith batteries might go boom in this bike.
