I always thought it was kind of cute, like it showed that Albert and Amond are just like any other couple discussing the idea of their kid getting married
‘Thank you dear’ Agador slapping Armand’s shoulder to prove a point Albert fussing over the laundry Everyone taking Albert’s hyperventilating in stride Agador scolding Val for not using a glass This is a true family.
I remember seeing this movie in theaters.... you could barely hear all the dialogue because everyone was laughing so loudly. I had to rent the dvd to finally hear the whole movie.
I had a couple of uncles like this. Well, not really uncles just my moms friends that watched me grow up. Sweet guys. Classy. Always remembered my birthday.
When I was first born my dad had to ship out to Baltimore about 300 miles where we lived at the time in Virginia and our then neighbors Alex and Victor would help my mom out while she had to go back to work and care for me and my 2 older sisters never got to meet them but I always hear stories from my parents
Everything about this scene is so wholesome. The soft morning lighting, the semi-chaotic placement of things (Armand is sitting on a bike and I just noticed that) that makes this kitchen feel lived-in, the way they interact with each other both warmly and slightly scolding. Everything about this scene just says 'family'.
I've seen this movie so many times, and I'm just now realizing that most of this scene is done in one take. That takes skill, and talent. This movie was given to the best actors they could find
This movie must have been pretty hard to make especially with a cast full of comedians, probably laughing and kept doing jokes the whole time as well as pranks. Miss you R.W
Mike Nichols said Robin, Nathan and Hank were such good improvisers that he made them do one take as it was written in the script, and then he’d let them go wild with improv on the second one. Lots of the improv made it into the film 😂
It really is. When I was younger it seemed more like a screwball comedy. Over the years I've really begun to appreciate how much care was put into every scene.
"Val's getting married." "Don't be silly. I got a pork roast for dinner, I wanted to get filet mignon but they're so expensive...married, what do you mean, married?"
Did anyone ever believe that Dan Futterman was "20" in this? In real life, he was almost 30 when this was filmed and Calista Flockhart was supposed to be "18" and she was really 32.
Yes. Neil Machlis also worked in Grease. The Characters weren't their True Ages. John Travolta was 24 playing 18, Olivia Newton-John was 29 going on 30 playing 17 etc etc.
I saw this for the first time in the late nineties. It was absolute genius and the whole supporting cast were excellent!. (yes, I know this is not the original blah!, blah,! blah!). But side-to-side, this is a classic in it's own right and will always hold its 'own'. R.I.P Mr. Robin Williams.
Hey, Yoshi Player, have you seen most of this movie and did you like it after watching it? P.S. I enjoyed reading your rewrites and fanfictions of The Loud House. Especially your rewrites of The Green House and Not a Loud and the fanfic of how Luna became Lincoln's guardian.
What i love was when he watched the playback what he said "OH MY GOD!!! I sound like my Peruvian Grandmother." Or something along that lines as he realized that he based his voice on his grandma.
I like Dan Futterman as an actor (he was great in 'Class of '61') but he was miscast here. The way he plays Val, he comes across as cold and cruel, completely undeserving of Albert's affection toward him. He's completely unlikeable.
@@lisakaz35 If that's his dilemma it never comes across in the film. His attitude is "Hide Albert away, or make him pretend to be straight." He has zero affection or regard for Albert's feelings. He acts like a jerk, without explanation.
@@SarahB1863 Well, at that age he is trying to establish himself and Albert kinda acts smothering, so I guess I understand that need to feel more independent (not that I married at 21). Albert is depicted like my mother a lot, so I had no animosity over Val. Indeed, he at the very least slighted Albert but Albert comes across as a possessive mother figure, too.
I think most of it is scripted, although some ad-libs did make it into the final cut. Mike Nichols (the director) insisted that Robin and Nathan do one take of each scene EXACTLY as written before he'd let them loose to ad-lib.
Hank Azaria in the background is still acting and reacting to every single thing happening. He's hilariously delightful to watch.
yes i'm sure that's the reason he was delightful to watch for you,
@@edunoeduno4980 I'm so glad you agree.
Delicious to watch too 😂
Hank has enviable abs!!!!
the reason why this entire movie is a masterpiece in acting this is my favorite movie of ALL movies ever made im 54 so im pretty sure by now
You could do a 3 hour film of just these 3 eating breakfast, and it would be comedy gold.
Agreed. I just want to live with them.
Facts!😂
I love how when Albert goes on a rant or overacts, everyone just goes along with their morning.
Apparently that is normal
I always thought it was kind of cute, like it showed that Albert and Amond are just like any other couple discussing the idea of their kid getting married
They are use to his rants 🤣😂😅
My life😂I have to rant!
❤️🌌🗺🌎🌍🌏 Mm o IK
Ahh
Is it just me or does anyone else find it adorable how Val calls Albert, "Albie"?
I think it's code for Mommie 🙂
And Albert calls Val “Vallie”
Albie/Vallie freaking cute!!
In my head it's because Val couldn't say Albert when he was little lololo
If it wasn't for the scourge of society masquerading as decent they could live their lives in peace. They're a lovely family.
❤️🌌🗺️🌎🌍🌏
Mm no blieve (believe) me your not Aln there
Ahh
Albert is such a great mother.
I love him when he's fussing over the laundry lol
Perhaps the best scene is when albert goes in to val's room to collect the laundry while val is asleep.
Albert: - Armand, Our baby is going to leave us. And we won't have any others!
Armand: - Not without a miracle 😂😂😂
My goodness I forget how funny that line is...lol!
Favorite reply ever.
😆
😂
Word for word lifted from the original, "La Cage Aux Folles."
‘Thank you dear’
Agador slapping Armand’s shoulder to prove a point
Albert fussing over the laundry
Everyone taking Albert’s hyperventilating in stride
Agador scolding Val for not using a glass
This is a true family.
The clothes hanging off the stationary bike lololol

Oh man lmao 😂
1996? DVD? More like VHS
I can believe it. I love this movie! I didn't think I would when I first saw it years ago, but I love it.
Jeez was everyone stoned? This movie is funny but not LOL funny
@@proantagonist5042 Mmm ok, not everyone has the same sense of humor, but I was ROFL like everyone else

It's so cute he calls Val "piglet ".
My grandson is named Chad :)
I love this movie so much. Everyone was truly outstanding in their roles.
I agree!
Everyone did amazing! Superb acting
Me too
YESSSS 😂😂😂😂😂
Hank Azaria played his role so perfectly!!! He was hilarious!!!! ❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂.....
“Ugh what is this sludge!?”
Yes it’s sludge I thought we’d have a break from coffee
The fact that Armand is hanging out reading the paper on an exercise bike is perfect.
I didn't see that it was a bike until now!
I love how much Albert loves Val. ☺️
Robin Williams acts from the tips of his fingers, to the expression in his gaze! a pure genius.
How Nathan Lane did not get an Oscar nomination for this performance is beyond me...
Hollywood doesn’t go for that sort of behaviour

It’s so natural and believable.. one of my favorite things from the movie.
I've seen this movie so many times, and I'm just now realizing that most of this scene is done in one take. That takes skill, and talent. This movie was given to the best actors they could find
Everything about this film was hilariously spot on. Nathan Lane was never funnier and the cinematography was absolutely stunning.
My mom and i freaking love this movie.
R.I.P. Robin
Me too
I love it 2 watching it many times since my highschool days in 90s & having it on DVS & BLURAYS ,
In & out is another good one
Albert is seriously an awesome mom lol so sweet and loving 😊
Hank Azaria makes me feel things I haven't felt since the war.

The greatest movie dads of all time. No one will ever come close.
The Birdcage is so funny I can’t stop laughing
I love how Armand trashes the Turkish coffee and then uses it to wash down an aspirin haha!
Everyone in this movie is outstanding!!!
Hank Azaria is hilarious and plays the part so well.
Albert so SO reminds me of my Grandma! And that’s a complement to Albert. My Grandma is AWESOME!
"Not without a miracle "...
Great line

2:07 that miracle was you Robin!
The way he wheezes is how I sound from laughing so hard while watching this.
Robin and Nathan duo was the best ever! RIP Robin Williams 😢
Look at the tiger robe that Robin's wearing. Great movie
One of my favorite movies of all time.
Timeless classic.
I never get tired of watching this movie
Just watched this again last night. It’s a really fantastic movie. Very funny, great script and great acting
It really is. When I was younger it seemed more like a screwball comedy. Over the years I've really begun to appreciate how much care was put into every scene.
They don't make them like this anymore.
I LOVE THIS SCENE. IT MUST BE NAMED 'GETTING MARRIAGE PERMISSION' 😂😂😂😂
"Val's getting married."
"Don't be silly. I got a pork roast for dinner, I wanted to get filet mignon but they're so expensive...married, what do you mean, married?"
I adore this movie. I've seen it over a dozen times, yet I only just noticed Robin is sitting on a bike for breakfast 😂
I recall Robin Williams saying this was his most favorite movie to make. I can see why. A wonderfully entertaining movie.
It’s a classic ❤️
This is one of my favorite movies. Even now I can't stop laughing at the one liners. Incredible writing & acting!

Its not uncommon for older actors to play teens or young adults, the main reason being child labor laws.
Clean living.
It’s was common in those days to cast older actors in younger roles. It wasn’t uncommon to have 24-30 year olds playing high schoolers, for example
Really,? I had no idea. He looks very young
It's so funny how they have the exercise bike in the kitchen and use it to read the newspaper in the morning.
1:50 “hey, hey, hey”
idk why that little tid bit was so genius to me! i love this movie.
Translation: In this house we use glasses!
lol nathan lane dont change we loves ya
great film, so underrated. One of William's best performances
The characters are so well written and performance is immaculate. Movie so underrated it hurts.

Seeing Gene Hackman in drag was hilarious.
The second Armand said that Val is getting married, Agador should have had two Pirin tablets ready for Albert.
I had the flu or something. I watched this movie for 3 days straight. Tooooo Funnny!!! Pirin tablets with the a and S scrapped off!
😂
Brilliant film and cast. Nonstop laughs.
Omg if Albert and Armand were my neighbors I’d b visiting them everyday
This movie aged so well
Oh hey look it's Timon (Nathan Lane) and Genie (Robin Williams)! Sorry, they sound exactly the same.
I think they meant the same as their Disney counterparts - maybe.
And Moe (Hank Azaria)!
Omg, I'm closing my eyes and imagining it!!!

Hank Azaria 💋

I love his love for his son val..❤❤
Nathan Lane being allowed to go full flame; bet be wasn't even scripted just given context.
Oh this movie was just outstanding everyone who acted in it was brilliant❤
Hank Azaria is my favorite character in this movie.
I freaking HATE Val. He’s such a brat and outright cruel to Albert the entire movie until the very end. He has zero sense of family loyalty.
Uh, no he isn't?
He's in such a bind tho. He wants to keep peace with his prospective in-laws to help his fiancee. Guess he decided that came first
