    i inherited an aspidistra plant from my mother and she got it from her mother-in-law, who got it as a wedding present. It is in its original shaker pot. We can trace it back to just over 100 years but it probably goes back for much longer as it was mature when my grandmother got it. I water it every month to six weeks. When it was in a darker room it lost its leaves regularly sometimes without replacing them however i have since moved it to the living room beside the tv and it just thrives there. It needed the company and stimulation. I don't do any maintenance to it although I think my mother topped up or changed the soil once. Just love this plant.

    I had such a hard rime finding one of these until I looked online, was thrilled to find them. My Grandma had these when I was a kid. I think they were more popular back in the "old days" lol i just love them. I have one of the spotted ones, looks like paint splatter on it ;)

    Cool plant! Not one in our collection, though! I have found the hardiest plants we have are probably the Devil's Ivy. I have so much of it all over our apartment as it propagates so easily. We have some that are literally just growing in water. While others are almost dry in soil.
    They are incredibly forgiving vines!!!
    The next easiest we have are the peace lilies. They droop when they need water but don't suffer from it. They just bounce back when they get a tub soak overnight.
    They're my easiest!!

    • @GoodGrowing

  • @lisarogers1392
    @lisarogers1392 Месяц назад

    I take care of many of these and find it pretty hard
    I can never figure out what they want but its possible it may be the water
    The water at the hotel i work might have way to many chemicals
    Once the leaves get droopy do they ever come back?
    They live in Kauai so they get lots of humidity and they also have issues with what i call barnical bug that attaches to the underneith side which if i scrub i can remove it and the leaves dont seem to mind that.

    In English literature, this plant seems to be almost the national houseplant. George Orwell even entitled a novel, Keep the Aspidistra Flying. I don't know why I can't find one locally here in Wisconsin, USA.

    Mine is well over 100 years old as it has been passed from generation to generation. Now it's up to me and it's not doing well anymore. I have 4 leaves and no new shoots in at least 2 years. I water it from the bottom pan, not in the soil. What should I do to perk it up?

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  2 года назад +2

      Oh wow that's amazing that it's so old! My first thought is maybe you're not giving enough water. Do you keep refilling the bottom pan until it no longer sucks up the liquid? If not, it may not be fully quenched each time so it could be perpetually thirsty

    I'm trying to find a plant that is non toxic to dogs and would live and not die in my dark room that has no windows. But I'm in there for maybe 3 to 5 hours of the day so the light would come on (it's not a plant light it's an incandescent light.) Would this plant be able to live in the room???

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  3 года назад +2

      Hmmm I'd say your best bet would be a cast iron plant yeah. But it still does need some light. You could always get a grow light for that room because normal home lights will not give the plant what it needs
