It looks beautiful, i love that most vintage watches were smaller and thinner watches ..back when a watch was like a fashion accessory and not ur whole out fit.. Lol..
I'm all about the thin, good lume, good movement, good water resistance, good bracelet, type of watches that many people put on RUclips. but these Q Timex watches.. they look GOOD.
I love Timex and I love to see them coming back around back to the brand they was in the past, lots of ppl hate them but there is a reason they have been around much longer then a lot of watch companies
That's a lovely looking watch, it has that '70's vintage vibe, like many people I do have a soft spot for Timex as my very first watch was a Timex. I think that they are rather hit or miss, I bought the 'XL Navi automatic' which I really like, but I got it on a special deal they were running so it was just over £100, which I thought was a fair price given the movement etc and comparable with homage/micro brands?
I agree with you about the design. It’s what makes Timex stand out these days - certainly can’t say it’s their price that makes it attractive but maybe you’re paying for their designer’s salary! At least it seems like they are upping their game a bit with the quality but still a long way to go.
I think they need to keep the price low because most Timex enthusiasts would just buy a vintage piece if the cost is too high. I'm currently wearing a 70s manual wind Timex skin diver that I got for $5. If they reissued it for $200 I wouldn't buy it because I can get the real thing much cheaper.
The dial invoked a memory of a trip out in the car as a child, reminded of a sweet my old nan put in the glove box called a chocolate lime. The watch itself I don't like although the brushing is spectacular. 10/10 for the memory 3/10 for the watch.
Timex is the most underrated brand. I get the most compliments on my M79 and every time i say its a Timex people cant believe it. The Falcon Eye is also an underrated strap monster.
Too funny. I received mine two days ago and immediately sent an email to Timex asking if I had a defective model because mine also seemed far too green/khaki compared to the cool grey on their product photos. Slightly disappointing but still a charming piece
I have recently fallen for the Muhle SAR rescue timer. It's really the case shape I love and this Timex is sorta similar.....if you know of any affordable watches like the Muhle, would love to see them.
Got a Indiglo Expedition when they came out in the early 90s. I was in the Philippines....people would gather around to see the watch light up. Came in handy on the midwatch and on liberty. Haven't owned one since
My one gripe (not including their Bracelets, because I expect them to stink) is that they are using cheap quartz movements. I’d snap at a thermo compensated quartz Timex.
Say what you like about Timex but they’re prepared to offer something different - ok so the quality isn’t always on point but they do offer a lot of watches with character and charm - they really do appeal to a big cross section of enthusiasts on a budget - I’m into higher end watches nowadays but part of me misses the days when I was collecting watches like this - somehow the hobby was more fun then
As you say Gary - this must have been the style around the 70s. I've an old Osaki that is very similar (and a similar tho weirder Seiko Elnix SG 1973 hi-beat 28.800 bph) that are very similar. For an extra few bob folks could definitely track down a vintage one/ new-old-stock with a non-quartz movement. Though admittedly the vintage bracelets are not good so swapping in a nice strap ups the cost (happy with my Osaki & Elnix SG).
I think with the huge range of micro brands & the quality/price of Aliexpress watches a lot of these lower end watch brands that have been arou d forever won't last too much longer .
So it's a Chinese-made quartz watch with an acrylic crystal and poor quality control. Not quite sure where your £180 is going? Enjoying the new 'legibility test' - it actually works, great idea :)
Had one of these in '78. Purple dial. Died with the first battery. $59cdn back then. POS...but looked cool. GMT master...Rolex was "only" $850 in those days.
Why hasn't timex started developing their own mechanical movements yet? A corporation that big should have any and all resources at their disposal. Even if they are unitas 6498/97 and eta 2824 clones like most of these companies today, it would be better than using chinese clones, miyota 8000 series movements and cheap quartz like they have been doing.
I almost bought a timex expedition scout on offer from Amazon but after watching reviews I went for a green infinity MDC military it came to day I can’t believe how good it is for the price I have expensive watches wear the second hand doesn’t hit the marketers but the MDC is spot on it is also a great size for my wrist but after setting the time and date my wife said I have to put it away for Christmas but I will be able to see how accurate it is when the big day comes
Yep that's why I will not spend my hard earned wonger on this brand ,but thanks for reminding me how awful they are and that old saying "you get what you pay for" never rings so true with these types of watches..cheers g.
I have the digital T80 with the stainless steel case and it’s pretty nice. But its the only Timex i own and none of their other watches have any appeal imo.
With what is available from Ali for the same money or(much) less....I see no reason to dabble in any of these.....and for £180($US226).....I can get 3, YES THREE, really good watches from Ali. Sorry Timex, no sale for me, as much as I like many of these retro styles, I will just get one of the originals off Ebay and have it re-furb'd and have it right that way.
Old enough to remember these from the 70's. They were fair then, probably not as good now. Never did care for faceted crystals. This one looks like the facets may be on the inside. External faceted crystals in acrylic scratch something awful. As in after a few weeks the watch was too scratched to read easily and looked cheap as all hell. Pass!
Hmm, what an horological horrorshow. In my opinion of course. The review had to be put out there but I think that thing will only appeal to people who've never set eyes on a Casio "Duro," fitted with a lovely beads o' rice bracelet from Long Island watch. Total cost - including the lovely bracelet - for my MDV106 (the stunning blue dial with blue bezel variant) was only a few pennies over £100 and yes, the Duro is a big watch, but it's light and even my 5¼" wrist finds the watch comfortable, even on its original resin strap. Big watches for skinny wristed women, just as nature would want things to be! So the Timex appears to be very poor value, even if the bracelet - bar that clasp - is good and the money would buy 2 Duros and leave enough in the watch budget for a sapphire crystal conversion, that solid bracelet, and / or a third Duro, so you could buy one in the double blue, another with the green bezel and a Pepsi, 'cos it's a proper dive capable watch and I have been known to do the occasional dive, albeit only from the lowest board in the local leisure centre😊. Well I wouldn't want my lovely watch to be getting soaked in sea water now, would I.😂
Timex seems to be improving their watches... I was expecting that horrible bracelet such the one featured on the first Q reissue. A solid link bracelet is very nice. The case seems to be better also. But, this kind of crystal... Awful to read!
Timex crystal always scratch easily making them a no go. They make some great looking watches, and if they'd just pur a sapphire crystal in their releases I'd be buying so many more from them.
That giant flushing noise you hear? It's another Timex going down the drain .. Now that said I have two that are still in my collection from early days of my collecting and aren't that bad: Timex Weekender Chronograph and Timex Expedition Scout field watch. They aren't spec monsters, they aren't unusual or flashy or terribly exciting but they are decent starter watches.
Timex continues to push out good looking CRAP! If it's not a VK mecha quartz, then it should be used as a paperweight or a brass knuckle for self-defense. Timex doesn't want to rejuvenate its brand it wants to be a cheap money grabber for the nostalgic
What the hell were they thinking? That's one of the ugliest watches I've ever seen. Only surpassed the the 70's reissues from Oruent, with the yellow and magenta gradients on the dial... when will watchmakers realize that nothing from the 70's can be reissued tastefully? Shag carpeting, disco balls, patterned frosted mirrors on the walls... let that decade go Man.
Timex should be banned by watch reviewers for their poor specifications garbage. 99% of their watches are rubbish. I hate this brand from my very youth. I did not have any knowledge in horology back then, but I could see clearly how bad are Timex watches.
I think you and anyone who shares this opinion might be misinterpreting the ethos of Timex. This reads to me like someone accusing Swatch of being too playful.
I agree when I was a kid it was all we could afford and they weren't great. Then you get something like an Accurist, Rotary or Avia all with Swiss movements inside and you realise how far short Timex was falling. I've yet to see a modern Timex that would make it's way onto my wrist.
@@_guillermo No, I think they are the worst brand in terms of cost/specs ratio. In particular, very cheep movements and crystals. I couldn't even find which quartz movement is on this watch. I bet it's the lowest grade 1.50 $ Miyota.
Awesome video & watch. My first watch was a Timex back many years ago. Where can we find this watch?
Er I would probably start at the timex website…. Good place to waste some money 😂
Nice prismatic crystal. Definitely 70's retro vibes going on.
Great video Gary. 👍🙂🇬🇧
I love Timex and I love to see them coming back around back to the brand they was in the past, lots of ppl hate them but there is a reason they have been around much longer then a lot of watch companies
I'm surprised you haven't added a Rado Diastar to your collection yet considering how much you love the style.
I thought I was the only one that appreciated Rado Diastars
That's a lovely looking watch, it has that '70's vintage vibe, like many people I do have a soft spot for Timex as my very first watch was a Timex.
I think that they are rather hit or miss, I bought the 'XL Navi automatic' which I really like, but I got it on a special deal they were running so it was just over £100, which I thought was a fair price given the movement etc and comparable with homage/micro brands?

Just got one. Absolutely love it!
Very good point…vintage timex are cheap!
What a strange review. You love this watch but also hated everything about it.
I've had relationships like that
I have the 70's one, sadly without the faceted crystal but it's also an Automatic. It's rough round the edges but the dial still pops!
The dial invoked a memory of a trip out in the car as a child, reminded of a sweet my old nan put in the glove box called a chocolate lime.
The watch itself I don't like although the brushing is spectacular.
10/10 for the memory 3/10 for the watch.
I love my Expedition watch. It’s light and rugged. I wear it a lot. Timex can punch it’s way back into collector’s hearts with some care.
Timex is the most underrated brand. I get the most compliments on my M79 and every time i say its a Timex people cant believe it. The Falcon Eye is also an underrated strap monster.
I can’t quite tell for sure, but is the faceting on the dial side of the crystal? That would be much better for polishing the scratches out.
Yes. The outer surface is smooth and easily polished.
Too funny. I received mine two days ago and immediately sent an email to Timex asking if I had a defective model because mine also seemed far too green/khaki compared to the cool grey on their product photos. Slightly disappointing but still a charming piece

I’d snap at a thermo compensated quartz Timex.
Gorgeous ... now can we have a mens 40mm/41mm please.
Say what you like about Timex but they’re prepared to offer something different - ok so the quality isn’t always on point but they do offer a lot of watches with character and charm - they really do appeal to a big cross section of enthusiasts on a budget - I’m into higher end watches nowadays but part of me misses the days when I was collecting watches like this - somehow the hobby was more fun then
Groovy watch man!
The tolerances on the bracelet are shocking… you could park a 1975 Ford Cortina in the gaps on that!
Phil could you please add in a Q or something in the title of your vids when you are reviewing Quartz watches?
Is it me or are Timex RRP completely unrealistic in the UK?
As you say Gary - this must have been the style around the 70s. I've an old Osaki that is very similar (and a similar tho weirder Seiko Elnix SG 1973 hi-beat 28.800 bph) that are very similar. Really like the case but def not a fan of that facetted crystal at all. Just looks really odd to me.
I think with the huge range of micro brands & the quality/price of Aliexpress watches a lot of these lower end watch brands that have been arou d forever won't last too much longer .

The designer’s Ferrari and designer clothing. Certainly not the manufacturing!
Had one of these in '78. Purple dial. Died with the first battery. $59cdn back then. POS...but looked cool. GMT master...Rolex was "only" $850 in those days.
I think I'll send timex to all the folks I dislike this year
The Timex watch I have, the movement is so loud you can hear very well. "Where is the bomb?", they yelled.
If you want a watch for work.try the expedition rugged.can’t fault it.
I was wondering when somebody would release a modern vanac-like crystal on their watches
Timex needs to stop using Acrylic and use clasps that have micro adjustments. Maybe try out the GG2 swiss watch they have
It’s a beautiful looking watch, but the price is a little optimistic. Thanks for showing it to us though.
No on this one Gary it’s very odd
This is one of those for the right price watches. If they did a better job I would have gladly shelled out the asking on this.
Their homepage is THE crap! Tried to look at this watch but the pictures just keep jumping😂
Dont do themselves any favours these days do they . Shame really .
An Aliexpress 18mm?? Milled clasp or an Engineer bracelet may be a good fix ?????

The Timex Expedition Scout I have hits all the markers and has Indiglo, with a great leather strap
I think it was worth the $40 price
The dial to me looks hideous. The degrede / fade is too extreme
Once again, I want to like Timex but...
Legibility is everything and the crystal on this makes it impossible to read, so it is a massive fail...
Yep that's why I will not spend my hard earned wonger on this brand ,but thanks for reminding me how awful they are and that old saying "you get what you pay for" never rings so true with these types of watches..cheers g.

I have 4 Timex digitals, happy with all of them.
With what is available from Ali for the same money or(much) less....I see no reason to dabble in any of these.....and for £180($US226).....I can get 3, YES THREE, really good watches from Ali.

you are a restorer. im a modder. both of us (?) have yet to see a cost effective american brand.
Seems like Orient vintage. I have one automatic.
Love it
Surely a Timex from the 70's should be on a stretcy metal bracelet. What happened to them?
Speidel still makes Twist-O-Flex bracelets..

I love my Duro too, but apples and oranges--other than both being quartz, these have nothing in common. Sporty dive watch and a retro dress watch....
I don't like the shape of the Crystal .
Really don't know why you waste your time and money on Timex. If you buy vintage Timex watches from the 70's then I'll understand, but this 🤷🏻♂️
Waoiooouuhhhh❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Tandorio just came out with a Rolex Datejust homage. The green dial watch looks great!
GUYS THE WRITING IS ON THE WALL . THE END IS NEAR MANKIND TIME IS SOON OVER ON THIS PLANET
I'll be blunt, that is disgusting :)
😂
That is by far the ugliest watch I've seen in recent memory, so for me not even really concerned about the quality.
Meh - but the applied logo looks nice!
Timex seems to be improving their watches... I was expecting that horrible bracelet such the one featured on the first Q reissue. A solid link bracelet is very nice. The case seems to be better also. But, this kind of crystal... Awful to read!
You bought QuartZ toy in 180 pound 😂😂😂😂 QZ are bad choice i always prefer automatics btw in that price range😊 seiko citizen or so
Timex crystal always scratch easily making them a no go. They make some great looking watches, and if they'd just pur a sapphire crystal in their releases I'd be buying so many more from them.
Timex isn't a serious brand. Good for kids' first watch, nothing more. Crap! Cheers!
Oh dear no. I can’t get away with this one
Super duper this time next year it'll be £80 i can hardly wait
Couldn't even put a automatic movement. They suck. £ 50 if that. Chuck it in the bin!
Timex. Best overall watch brand by far.
I want this timex watch please give me this watch in india
So far only available on Timex website and for retail price (no sales apply).

If there is a Seiko 5 Actus reissue, it'll literally kill this Timex.😅
Timex continues to push out good looking CRAP! If it's not a VK mecha quartz, then it should be used as a paperweight or a brass knuckle for self-defense. Timex doesn't want to rejuvenate its brand it wants to be a cheap money grabber for the nostalgic
180 quid?
No timex runs more than 5 years
Sometimes things from the 70s should stay in the 70s... but this isn't one of those cases ahaha
Lol

@@philspencelayh5464 that’s my point. Timex was never about quality movements, and anyone expecting that from them is looking in the wrong place.
Show us on the doll where the Timex touched you.
IMO this watch is terrible! 😅
Rip off like all timex.
Why do they make some good watches , then do this (Timex North field is quite good ).
Acrylic crystal ? Why .For a few quid more the war was lost .
OMG that is just horrible
Really….not a fan of vintage watches then ?!?
🤮me not like
Don't talk bad about Timex my grandfather wore Timex my dad wore Timex & I wear Timex 🥷
