An all-white New York fire department gets its first black fireman in this made-for-TV drama from 1973. Shelly Forsythe (Richard Roundtree) must battle both fires and racism as the department deals with a serial arsonist. With a superb ensemble cast that includes Michael Lerner, Paul Le Mat, Richard Jaeckel, Andrew Duggan, and Vince Edwards, this compelling big city drama was directed by Alex March (Paper Lion) and shows Roundtree taking a break from the popular Shaft movies to show his versatility!

This movie is dated, but it is interesting none the less. The racial attitudes of the white firemen is concerning. Why don't they recognize that they were once the lower and hated group because of their ethnicity?

And why is it so important for you to say that it's dated? Who cares?
Plus that black fireman was no prize himself.

@@MIKECNW Dated because racial attitudes have changed since then. Also, the black fireman's attitude is justified because of the times he is living in. Don't you have any empathy?
