The chat in the beginning in cap asking why smant doesn't just use cappy or 2 player mode is a perfect description of chat's intelligence 90% of the time
It's actually kinda understandable if you watch too much SMO speedrun, you are used to the main gameplay and tricks, not the very short time when mario doesn't even hv cappy yet which doesn't even last for 2 mins.

I like how he went on a whole story about how he was left out in the cold because didn't have his room mates' phone numbers because the phone with their numbers broke & then like an hour later proceeded to say "I don't trust anyone with a phone case, just don't let your phone break" his sarcasm is great
Things like that is why smant is so good at filling space in a boring stream with interesting stimuli.
For those still unaware:
Lava will damage Mario and send him careening, unable to stop, only controlled by joystick movements, for a few seconds before recovering.
Poison insta-kills you.
So, this is like The Floor is Lava 2: Toxic Boogaloo or some such

I think it's funny how the death counter has 4 digits, it's as if they know anyone trying it will probably die 1000+ times.

So yeah, it's called breakdown road because you have a breakdown if you try it for too long
I think the main reason people think this is the same as Floor is Lava is cuz Mario 3D World had just released on Switch a few months back at the time of streaming, and many viewers likely recently played it for the first time, or replayed it. In THAT game, lava and poison both cause instant death, and since you’d done Floor is Lava over a year ago, they likely forgot it didn’t work like that in Odyssey.

Counterpoint, lava has usually just been damage, but poison in Mario has always been instadeath, at least when it's in the floor.

The reason I watch Smant and not other speedrunners is because of the things he teaches us every stream: "Uncooked bread is my favourite soup" (All Shrines BoTW), "Mario's allergic to grape juice", "Carrot powder is a spice"
its not the codeine that gets you high, its just a mediocre painkiller. Cough syrup has diphenhydramine which makes you drowsy. they mix the cough syrup with sprite and put jolly ranchers in it. thats called lean. Lil.Wayne is dying from drinking it all the time. he has seizures regularly.

God, the sheer amount of people asking what the difference is between this and the floor is lava is mind boggling. It’s like these people haven’t played SMO. How can you not know the poison instant kills you, while the lava doesn’t? I don’t understand how ant didn’t get pissed from having to answer that question so many damn times.
It's the same thing in every other 3D Mario game, except for Sunshine. In Corona Mountain it's actually poison water with a lava texture over it.

Hey smant, I’ve got an idea for the randomiser, randomised captures. Not entirely sure how this would work but maybe every time you capture something it changes what you capture. Eg. You try to capture the frog at the start of the game and it’s actually a gushin and so on. I’m not sure if this has already been suggested or even if you’ll see this.
I believe he actually was looking into this, I remember him mentioning testing every Capture in every situation and then making every capture which that section is possible with able to spawn in place of what should be there. I remember he specifically mentioned a Fly Bones at the end of Cap in place of the wire, since all the game checks for to initiate the Title Card and transition to Cascade is that Mario pass through a certain point while in a capture.

To fix stick drift go to settings and go to controllers, then go to calibrate and calibrate your stick
That doesn’t work. Yeah, it might seem to fix it for a bit, but it really doesn’t. It’s not a software problem. The joy con drift issue is caused by something on a hardware level.

I am finishing a math degree, myself, and think that smant would do a killer job! Plenty of good resources to get started online, as well-discrete math or number theory are a great place to start for real math if you have a good grasp of calculus.
