The fact that this is the first of many of these excruciating runs makes his excitement and optimism so much better lmao. It's honestly kinda strange after seeing him and CJ struggle for hours while racing against each other haha. I think it's still a lot of fun for them though. Just seems very frustriating as a viewer sometimes lol.

4:10 most likely pipes are already there but set to be invisible and loaded the area incorrectly causes the game not to check if its loaded or not ( you can see another instance of this happening in mario galaxy where a door in good egg has a sign hidden behind it, its used to save time and resources)

Long after getting all the power moons and beating bowser, mario and the toads created janky time travelling. Now mario is reliving his adventures again. But in order to not create an infinite paradox, he must travel in a specific line.
