Awesome review, really liked watching it, thanks for the great feedback regarding our new DT 1990 PRO MKII 🔥 Just one thing: The DT 1990 PRO MKII has an impedance of 30 ohms (not 45 ohms), which means that the studio headphones can be used with a variety of end devices. Greetings from Germany 🎧
tbh we want more high impedance headphones, none of that sub 80 ohm stuff. pls we want high fidelity, people who are buying these arent buying them for their cell phones, we're buying them for our high end amps
Please Beyerdynamic an Edition version(like the classic one) with less clamping force would be really great. For me 6,0N is way too much. 4N like the Amiron Home would be fine(I love my DT 880 Edition with heavenly 2,8N).
@@largefatherbassmusic you dont know a thing about engineering, do you? High ohm headphones were mainly used in the past, because engineering didn't have any other option than doing so putting all tech into headphones. Nowadays ohm doesn't say anything about the actual hifi performance of a headphone!
Your MK2 version should have had less clamp force (around 3N) and shorter cables for gaming and working sessions at the computer. Just adding the Amiron acoustic pads and calling it MK2 won't make the cut these days.
@@halleberry123 Not at all. According to the data sheet, the MK2 has a clamping force of 6.0N (+-0.5). Even the DT 900 pro x has 5.3N. Simply too much for me if you are used to 2.8.
I received my DT 1990 PRO 2nd generation today and can also confirm that the headphones sound better than V1, especially since the piercing high frequency profile has finally been smoothed out. Let's see if the sound changes over time.
@@PeanutByte0 no it doesn't. It only means worse quality for someone who use high power amps on them, in this case it doesn't suite super hi fi dac/amps stuff. The only thing I’ll say in favor of the new design (which seems to be growing on me more) is that it seems like more of the design is open, so I wonder if that has any noticeable effect on soundstage. Although the tuning of the new one is less bright it seems, which might make soundstage perceived as less impressive as the OG, I wonder if the more open design can help combat that and if the staging on the new one is better or at least the same as the OG.
I've got my pair last saturday as my first open back headphones. I am surprised with how much low end they have. They sound very cohesive with a bump of low end. It for sure is an interesting experience for anyone new with open back headphones.

This wasn't mentioned in the video but the Mark 2 still uses a 3-pin mini XLR port. I would have liked to have seen them switch to 4-pin since they were making a new revision, but alas.
Seems like they now use similiar foam disks (with the bump in the middle) as they do on the Amiron Wireless. Many DT1990 users (myself included) already swapped the original foam disks for those to tame the treble to great effect. I am curious if the new headband fits the old DT1990. If so, I might get it as a replacement part if mine wears down.

To expensive though. I have the original and that was 300 euro for me. That's a good price for that headphone. I just wish they put a little more emphasis on the sub bass. I run my 1990 pro through sonarworks. And it shows that they can reproduce much more sub bass without issue.
Damn! Sounds like Beyerdynamic has found the right spot between too bright and too muffled. Maybe I need to buy another headphones...My wife will kill me 😄!

Wondering how these compare to the R70x Refine for gaming specifically. A bit different price points but the refine has had such high praise across the board.
I was thinking of buying the dt 1990 pro 2 or the hifiman edition xs. I use them for 80% video games (sp and mp) and 20% music and movies. I currently have the dt 770 pro. Which one should I choose?
I have Hifiman Ananda and OG 1990 and worth knowing that hifiman leak masses of audio, so much that I can't use the hifiman when other people are in the house because they hear it from nearby rooms. The 1990s are far from silent, they are open back after all, but the hifiman are way worse, even though I personally prefer the hifiman sound. The Beyers are beautifully built and they feel like they are very expensive, much more so than the hifiman. Still, everytime the house is empty I reach straight for the hifiman, so that probably says enough.
A DT 1990 review using only one set of pads is only half a review. Disappointing! I have the original 1990 and use it exclusively with the optional Analytical pads. The 1990 MK1 sounds superb and the "problem" with the treble is mostly a result of people using inferior hi-fi equipment. There is a lot of expensive tat on sale nowadays that is superficially impressive, but is designed and engineered by no-name hi-fi companies who put style before substance. It is very much the same with headphones. Once they realized there was a market for overpriced headphones many new companies emerged and delivered 'phones that were prohibitively expensive yet failed - and still fail! - to outperform the headphones of long-established companies who know what they are doing - Sennheiser and Beyerdynamic, for example.
I have the original 1990 that Ive loved, but got a pair of 1770s mk for the bass, and im so torn because I like the imaging for gaming of the 1990 mk1. ..... then the 1770 mk2 launched and my 1770 mk1 are being returned tomorrow lol. Going to see if the 1770 mk2 can bump the 1990 for gaming for me. I would love the bass of the 1770 mk1 with a little better imaging.
Forst reaction: wait what. Second reaction: ohhh so that explains all the heavy discounting on the OG 1990 Pro recently. I have seen it as low as 399€ a few weeks ago.
Beyerdynamic's only get good with age, about 15-20 years of listening as an adult, because that's when you've suffered enough hearing loss on the high end (when you hit 40 to 50 year and older) do they begin to sound normal. Just don't give em to anyone under the age of 20... they will not appreciate it.
To be honest. I don't like the new Grille design of the Mk2. It looks worse to me. More boring, and bland, copying some of the other headphone grilles, what's worse, it's almost an exact copy of the DT 990 Pro, and a bit of 900 Pro X grille (but gray), and I own both the DT 990 Pro and 900 Pro X. I can't justify the grille look when it resemble too much of a headphone of the same family, that I already own, making it extremely hard to differentiate the two. The MK1 grille was very unique, and bold, with a much more interesting and dynamic pattern...one of a kind. I noticed the MK2 has more cut outs, which means more openness right? However, they remains to be tested, but I figure it might be a tiny bit more airy than MK1. All in all, not a fan of the new grille design.
Doesn't look or sound like an upgrade to me and every time they use those new acoustic discs over the drivers on their other headphones they just sound dull and over damped. Beyer is meant to be all about that treble clarity.
Looks like beyerdynamic is going "soft" with this new approach☹. I'm gonna stick with the original DT1990 Pro. Sound is clean, detailed, with great sound stage, and they do not sound warm. I've even got 2 pairs. They are that good for me. They should fix the T1 3rd Gen, Its a warm dull mess.
I have had several Beyer headphones, the 770, the t1, the t70, the t5, and a couple more. I would be very reluctant to buy another. There is always something that really annoys me after a while. The 770 clamps to hard. The t5 is awful. The t1 is fatiguing. The t70 cable feels 100 feet long and can’t be changed. It’s made me wary of Beyer.
Depending where you live you might want to consider their replacement parts because you might be able to fix your problem for quite a reasonable price.
Wish they had improved the mechanism for exhanging the ear pads. For example a magnetic system. Also they could have removed the wires between the headband and cups for a cleaner look.
I think you are the only person to ever say the 1990 is comfortable. What have you compared it against? I sold them due to how uncomfortable they were.
Well, I find amazing. Is people who choose Sennheiser 600 and 479 over these or hifiman. They feel like absolute trash like a wish version. I couldn’t believe how garbage they sounded too compared to a lot of other headphones. The clamp force was so painful I thought it was comedic. Anyways That being said thanks for the review, beyers are awesome for gaming and sound classic.
Look at fresh reviews . He’s a ex competitive gamer with more insight on that topic . His top pick i believe currently is the hd490 . The dt900 pro x is in his wallhack tier list but under the 490’s . Waiting on this review from him
Try the 1990 mk 2. The 490s are decent but I sold them because they’re kind of boring to listen to. 900 pro x are good if you’re a beginner audiophile. You could also look at the harmonic dyne zeus elite
@ I actually have the 900 pro X, got them about 5 months ago. what is it that you mean by they are for a beginner audiophile? i’m wondering if i should try to sell them. at the time i bought them I just kept hearing they were the best competitive gaming headset, which is why i got them for my PC
@@GOilers97 I personally don’t prefer the 490s over the 900 pro x. But they do have a larger soundstage, and more precise imaging, but the tonality I’m not a fan of, even with velour pads as far the fun factor. I know they’re studio headphones but so are the 900 pro x. They perform good enough for competitive gaming, but I’d look for something better like the Arya organic or he1000se. The 490s are very similar to 560s. But maybe you might like them, look at their frequency graphs to see if that’s a tuning you’d like.

Can you put the dt 990 silver earpads on these?
Forst reaction: wait what.
Second reaction: ohhh so that explains all the heavy discounting on the OG 1990 Pro recently. I have seen it as low as 399€ a few weeks ago.
What happened to the Abyss Diana DZ review?
@@luked5041 it's garbo
Isn't this a 30ohms headphone?
The original 1990Pros were some of the most beautiful headphones ever made imo. The grilles on the new version are definitely a downgrade :(
@JoshuaValour do I hear a new schiit gunnr video? I want to get it but want your take first please and thank you.
New hairstyle?
The only excuse for it is if his newborn did it
It's for Halloween

Beyerdynamic's only get good with age, about 15-20 years of listening as an adult, because that's when you've suffered enough hearing loss on the high end (when you hit 40 to 50 year and older) do they begin to sound normal.
Just don't give em to anyone under the age of 20... they will not appreciate it.
interesting shift in color @00:24
1:22 Yoo what is that hair??
mo-hawks are cool mmk?
the original looks better
is it legal being so early?
Heck no! 😊😊😊
2 of my 3 sons were early and still no cops at my door. 👍
what she said...
No way! Josh literally called it 😂 I remember when he said a while back that he’d love to see a v2 of the 1990
I have had several Beyer headphones, the 770, the t1, the t70, the t5, and a couple more.
Please review denon d7200
Wish they had improved the mechanism for exhanging the ear pads. For example a magnetic system. Also they could have removed the wires between the headband and cups for a cleaner look.
It’s my most comfortable headphone. I own the 1990 Pro. Why should I get a new version of it.
I might get the headband of the new version for my old one, if it fits. Should make it even more comfortable.
I think you are the only person to ever say the 1990 is comfortable. What have you compared it against? I sold them due to how uncomfortable they were.
it looks more like the dt 900 pro x then the dt 1990
Josh, bro… I love your reviews but you gotta learn what “finite” means. Lol
Well, I find amazing. Is people who choose Sennheiser 600 and 479 over these or hifiman. They feel like absolute trash like a wish version. I couldn’t believe how garbage they sounded too compared to a lot of other headphones. The clamp force was so painful I thought it was comedic. Anyways That being said thanks for the review, beyers are awesome for gaming and sound classic.
bro consider firing your barber. Nice review tho
5:02 Look at the frequency response of the 900x and you'll know why... these arent 1990 v2 they're 900x+
So, what you are saying is that the high notes will still sound like a red hot poker burning my eardrums out. Got it.
Diggin the fauxhawk
It's a last ditch effort to save what he's got. He's trying to be a cool dad.
so what im getting is that the mk2 are pretty much like the mk1s with dekoni earpads?
is the 1990 mrk 2, DT 900 pro X or HD 490 pro better for competitive gaming?? Edit: Thank you for any responses!
@@mariannygonzalez511 do you think it’s worth trying to sell the DT 900s for the 490 ? I have had them for 5 months so returning isn’t an option
Even hd600 feels like you got scammed. Nowardays considering he 400is were sold for less than a hundred bucks
👍👍👍
