Yea i have 3700x on b450. Didnt kno why my temps were fairly high under loads 75-80c, but changed core clock to 1.3 and have better temps 55-65c, with same performance. Thank You for this video!

Oh and 4.4 seems hard to reach even on the x570 so it means the only reason for me to go x570 would be for pcie4 and the nvme speeds.
But what did you really take from this? Is the B-450 a good idea?

@@chinnerchilla Well now win11 and its DirectStorage in development, MAYBE it's worthwhile to buy x570 for pcie4. But then again, by the time DirectStorage actually arrives I'm sure plenty other and BETTER mobos will replace x570 easily. Who knows maybe some day soon there'll be pcie5, making x570 obsolete.
Either way, at least for now, pairing 3700x with x570 is just a waste of money.

Lol "4.4GHz" on the box refers to a theoretical possibility for just one core for one split second. AMD is being a complete ass with their marketing this time round. No one managed an all core overclock over 4.3GHz regardless of chipset or cooling or BIOS version!
AMD never said it was an all core boost, and it has no time limit unlike Intel sooo...
@@NewLondonMarshall Look, if you are treating this as an Intel vs AMD thing, you are missing the point. I'm talking companies vs consumers and whenever a company treats consumers with contempt, we as consumers should be calling it out.
Intel's is an artificial limitation that could be turned off in the BIOS. You could also overclock all cores to 5GHz plus which is equal to if not more than what the box says for any K-series chip. By comparison, the 3900X's the rated Max Turbo of 4.6GHz is unreachable even on one core. In other words, AMD lied.
@@SDAspra it is reachable but only if the temperature is low enough, like with GPU boost 3.0. GN did a video where he cooled it from 80 degrees to -50 and it scaled perfectly. It's rare but it does hit that clock speed in single core tasks!

@@SDAspra Ohh no I didn't mean that sorry! The 4.6 boost can be achieved on air but it won't go that high if it gets too hot. I prefer this over Intel's method as far as clock management and turbo boost goes but yeah I agree they should advertise a slightly more achievable boost for everybody like 4.4!
Of course you can run a processor with a TDP of 65 Watt on a B450 motherboard, most of them go up to 105 Watt.
It's the BIOS that's the main issue.

Hey, I'm new to the channel and really like your work.
Got the 1000$ streaming setup video recommnded and I checked all other videos and you guys deserve a sub!
Remember he recorded this before the release. We have a lot more information a few days later, so remember to view it in the proper context.
Multiple tech sites have reported the unexpectedly high auto voltages (and HW unboxed actually blew up their 3900X on auto voltage while messing with overclocking). And here we have another report confirming the issue. Clearly the BIOSes need to go through a few rounds of updates, so the clear message is... be very careful overclocking your Zen 2 chips with these early BIOSes, and even consider throwing in a small negative voltage offset on otherwise stock configurations.
You can pop a 3900X into even a B350 mobo. Just don't expect it to overclock well or to be able to squeeze out the most out of the ram. That's all. Other than that it works just fine. Since nearly all mini-itx and micro-atx motherboards use B350 or B450, I expect a lot of people will be doing just that. Including me. So thanks for the review! So far I've only found three channels that have tested Zen 2 on the smaller mobos.

Sorry I have to dislike the Video for some reasons:
1- The Auto Voltage is just fine. You'll notice it higher than usual in the Bios becuase there is load applied on the CPU so that's not the idle voltage and it is perfectly fine, no one will damage the cpu by running it @ stock settings
2- There was no mention of the VRM Temp while stress testing the CPU, So this Video lacks the Main info the viewer needed. Like did they overheat ? was the Temp in the acceptable range ?
3- No mention of PBO, Auto AMD OC ...
Try again with those settings and try to report the temp of the VRM, not the CPU
Anyway 3700x will run just fine on this MSI Board, 3900x will be on the edge @ stock settings, but one might consider an X570 or 470 to be paired with that 12C CPU

I don't understand why people think the new ryzen chips can't run well on b350/b450. They all have the same TDP as the 1st and 2nd Gen. There is no reason why it won't work well

Microcenter flash firmware before I installed it. I had to do a later Firmware update for my Memory to work correctly.

I bought a b450 carbon pro and 3600 with 5700xt. It has crashed over 50 times in a week. I returned it.
@@RunningCordoroy Did you get one with an updated Bios. Wont post if you drop in a 3rd gen cpu. Ive heard the beta bios' are nothing to write home about either?
MSI tends to be very aggressive with high voltages at stock. I benefitted a lot from undervolting my B450. I did have some instability in CoD though - I'm currently trying to work out the cause, as my GPU is undervolted as well, and my RAM has slightly tightened timings, so I'm not sure if either of those was contributing to instability. Most other games seemed to run fine unless I went below 1.2V. It might just be because CoD is much more demanding than the other games I play, so needs higher voltages to stay stable.

Msi b450 boards have been having major bios issues with 3000 series cpu's
There's not much OC headroom on Ryzen 3000. Nice use of an older mobo and enjoy stock auto boost. Good review 😎👍

You'll have to update the bios, unless the Reseller is doing it for you, most MSI B450 boards have Bios Flashback so that you can flash it without a cpu/ram/gpu. If you are not in a hurry, you probably should wait for the "MAX"-edition boards that MSI is launching in a month or so. Consider the Tomahawk or the Gaming Pro Carbon Buildzoid is recomending those for Ryzen 3600

@@josecastaneda2288 you are very welcome. Another board to have in mind is the B450 Carbon Gaming AC, since it's should be a bit better with vrm/cooling and Intel Lan. Both boards should work great with R5 3600 and get a Corsair 212 black cooler.
OK it works, my cuestion is if it is worth it to spend 100$ on a B450 for a 3700x and upgrade it in the future, or to spend 100$ more on a X570 and have a more future proof system?

@@stepdm8961 I did not try to overclock ram, it is 3200mhz (16gb kingston hyperx fury black one stick ) and i am happy with it, although i would not recommend overclocking it as the motherboard is "cheap" and not capable... i mean it is capable but not safely, i would not risk and get a x570 board instead. R7 3700x and RX5700 doing great...

In 3 day's I'm recovering my msi b450 tomahawk and 3600x. It works perfect for what I see.
I have a B450 Tomahawk and a 3700x and it works just fine. I would recommend manual overclocking and manual voltages tho...

That sounds very good, I would replace the RTX with an RX 5700XT, about $150 less, very close in performance, and I'd upgrade the ram to 32GB with the money saved on the GPU if you're doing graphic design

Nearly all of the B450 boards out there could not OC 8-core ryzen. Go get an X570 if you want to OC the 3rd gen.

In all honesty the issue is that motherboard vendors prioritize things aside from the vrms you can buy b450 mobo with good vrms but they're rare as motherboard manufacturers focus more on power connectors, more usbs and Pcie slots. In reality those features for most people mean nothing for real life functionality
I still have a pc with a R5 2600x and rtx 2070 from years back and i'm debating wether or not to replace the cpu with a R7 5800x because when playing gta or fivem it really bogs down and it shows like it's more cpu based with loading scripts models etc. I'm not sure however if it is the right choice since it would be a huge bump in performance I just read a comment saying msi is aggresive on voltage I never knew normal voltage was that low, when overclocking my R5 to 4ghz the motherboard was actually at 1.47V. Never had a problem with heat though to be honest, I do have a 360mm AIO and that's probably why. Thanks for the video it did help!

Why did you run cs at high settings with that GPU, such low fps and what I guess is a bad GPU bottleneck ;'( . Should've ran it at 720p low. I literally cannot find ANY actual cs gameplay with Zen 2 on RUclips, apart from those workshop benchmarks that I don't really trust... Just wanna see how it actually performs ingame.

All 470, 370, 350, and 450 bios’ need updates (320 mobos are not compatible
all X570 boards I've used auto clock the 3700x to over 1.4V as well. There needs to be an explanation on why this is being done, perhaps PBO?

You don't have to worry about overclocking on B450 Tomahawk, unless you're planning to OC 3900X/3950X.

It depends on the build of the B350 boards. That's why someone B350 boards will not be getting support for Ryzen 3000 series. I'm lucky enough that mine will be by gigabyte.

Hey toasty👋 I just got a new ryzen 7 3700x months ago, the problem with mine is when I render any image or cinebench the cpu wraith prism looks spinning too slow and my cpu temp bounces over 90 degree Celsius, but when I monitor the fan speed it shows 2889 rpm full speed. Could you kindly make a video on how the cpu fan looks like while rendering?

My computer didn't even boot with the Ryzen 7 3800x. Imma have to buy a new motherboard.
I tried lowering the voltage to 1.3v and my newly formatted pc crashes frequently. Changed it back to "Auto" and it's working fine again.
lowering it to 1.3v means the CPU will not get enough when turboing to the rated boost speed so you might wanna keep the Voltage at Auto unless you"re planning to do Manual oc or disabling Turbo boost, and don't worry this 1.4 is for a micro sec, you can run stress test like Aida64 to see the voltage when all cores are utilized
I've tried to overclock too but it just unstable when set it manually. Just leave it on auto for now.

So just watched Gamer Nexus' video trying to explain overclocking on this cpu and I'm completely lost. For this 3700x do you recommend turning on the pbo, auto OC and/or pb? Or just leaving it alone and just OC the ram? (xmp)

B450M bazooka has terrible vrms and vrm heatsink, that's why MSI replaced it with B450M bazooka plus.

I've just upgraded my build from i5 4690k, R9 380X, 8GB RAM to a Ryzen 7 3700x, 5700 XT, 16GB RAM with a B450 Aorus Elite MOBO.
I knew the B450 series MOBO's required a BIOS update when partnered with Ryzen 3 series', I've just putt together this build and I can't even get a signal to my monitor? Have I put something together wrong or is the outdated BIOS the issue? Obviously I cannot update my BIOS when my monitor doesn't have signal
