I love this song! It would have been an even better video if I could see more of their faces. Thanks for sharing. Love "The Band" and I am happy "that my memory served me well."
never heard a song covered by so many artists back in the day although many do it very well my favorite versions are from the birds which is a live recording and mountains first album nobody can write lyrics like Dylan
Rick Danko once told me how Bob Dylan contributd lyrics to this. They had a typewriter in the house they shared and would take turns adding a line every so often!
So much talent in one band, they were wonderful. As for the composition of this, it's always been my belief that Dylan wrote the lyrics to Rick's music. Have many copies with credit attributed to both artists. RIP Richard, Rick and Levon.
Actually it's the opposite. Here's what Rick Danko said in an interview: "We would come together every day [at Big Pink] and work and Dylan would come over. He gave me the typewritten lyrics to 'This Wheel's On Fire'. At that time I was teaching myself to play the piano.... Some music I had written on the piano the day before just seemed to fit with Dylan's lyrics. I worked on the phrasing and the melody. Then Dylan and I wrote the chorus together."
When Siouxsie & The Banshees covered this song, they nearly didn't release it as Sioux hated Dylan - she'd always assumed Brian Auger had written it (Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger & The Trinity had the original hit). It ended up being one of their biggest hits.
Where are Siouxsie and The Banshees now?Didn't know what she was talking about.....of course it could have just been for publicity.....or a throwaway remark. Bob's still around .......no one can deny his status and world influence.
In fact Julie Driscoll's version of Wheel's On Fire is the most popular in the UK for people of Dylan's generation and the KT Tunstall & Billie Bragg version is also a great cover.
danko could sure play the fuck out of that ampeg fretless! funny that he never properly regarded himself as a bassist. said he only picked it up when it was necessary for him to play it... you don't get many of those kinda quality musicians, i swear.

Bobcat the copycat !
Besjona Miluka ....... Bob never had the need to “copy” anyone.

p f ......yes you’re quite right. I simply meant the song consisted of Bob’s lyrics composed to Rick’s music.
Perfection.
The Byrds did a nice cover of it, too. The Band's version is the most well-known, though.
Song starts at 0:35
Brilliant.
Much thanks for posting this!
Great building to see a show. Saw allot of acts there like Steve Winwood, Santana and The Tubes. Of course it was torn down in the name of progress..
Great song
Listen to that drumming...

Anyone feel like a Stoli-Bolli after hearing this song?
reminds me of a strange mix of the basement tapes version with the mostly lame psychedelic byrds version
