Thanks for posting. Brings back memories of running the lead line on a 54’ boat a very long time ago.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the Hay Stack. Great video.

I assume your boat is 58 feet long and about 19 wide. In the 60's I was on a 44-foot troller converted to a seiner. I see you used the power of the winch to bring the fish aboard. Most of the time we had to use a brailer because of the boat's size. We fished more inside waters in Southeast. When I was 9 years old in '54, my dad ran a stationary buying barge which was anchored at Noyes Island. Although he later owned a seiner, at that time my much older brother had a 36-foot troller and brought his catch into the barge where my dad worked which contained a modified store. In the 60's enclosed flying bridges were not common.

Hard work, in a very heavily controlled industry. The salmon population is closely monitored and there are many days in season where you cannot go out to fish, the counts are to low.
If you can get the green card, I have no doubt you could get work in the fleet. Hard workers are not turned away unless they are a complete screw-up. It would probably help if you could get some experience fishing in Mexico, both in getting the green card and getting hired afterwards.

That boat used to be the Dora R. I was the cook one season around 1980. Pete Peterson was the captain. I learned a lot. Bruster

Very cool! I am from Ukraine, I also do commercial fishing, but we do not have the same volumes as yours and the vessel is smaller! but the principle of fishing is similar to yours, we use a structure scanner to find schools, and fence them with gill nets, then we scare the fish with the noise of a motor, and it tries to leave and gets into the net!
