Only retains power for a few seconds. I’ve even done them with the battery still connected. If you ever wanna know what it feels like to defuse a bomb, go for it😬😂
Love that look, so glad to finally watch this video, i too have a 04 Tahoe and none of my switches on the wheel light up any more. Looks like im going to swap in exactly everything you just did! Great videos man!
I've never used a steering wheel puller in my life. by growing up poor I became quite creative so I learned to yank them off easily lol. good video man
I thought I was the only one who valued little details that most people would never notice much less spend any time or money making them happen! Amazing that you have 215k on the Tahoe , looks awesome
Im 18 and i got a 05 tahoe and i forgot what i searched but ur vid popped up and ive been watching ur mod vids and tbh its so motivating to waste my money on my tahoe😂
I’m loving the Tahiti series. I’ve been wanting to spruce up an early 2000s Tahoe or Suburban myself for awhile. I got a study guide now for if i ever get around to it! 👍
The loose column is from the tilt mechanism. My 06 Yukon had that problem when it was brand new, dealer replaced under warranty. Most of the time I get those steering wheels off by leaving the nut on a few turns and banging on the back of the wheel a few times then rocking it back and forth. Also hitting the shaft with a little PB blaster helps. I slso put an 07 Envoy air bag on mine for the roung GMC emblem.
Heads up to anyone doing this, even if you disconnect your battery there is still some juice in the electrical system due to the compacitors storage in alot of the control boards. Keep your key switched on for a minute or two. Wont hurt anything will just make sure any residual energy is disapated so no chance in the airbag go off. Ive seen it happen even with the battery completely removed from the vehicle due to the residual energy in the electrical system. Airbags are really sensitive when it comes to electric shock. Even a strong enough static electricity shock could potentially set it off
The hole in the TA console between the window switches is for a power mirrors switch. Glad you finally put a video up for the steering wheel, looks killer just wish Grant or any other company made one for 99-02
Some 85-86 had them on the driver door but all 87-92 where in the console between the window switches, Trust me, I've owned 7 Trans Am's (2 GTA Trans Am) and they all had that switch in that spot, I think my 82 had it on the door though
Those steering wheels come off super easy if you just hit with both hands upward from the back... so your puller literally did nothing haha. Just be sure you leave the nut on a couple threads so it doesn't come off into your face... experience talking here lol. I did the autowood grey burlwood with soft black leather wrap in my 04 build truck as the original although in a low mile truck looked like the one here and was peeling all over. I would love the Envoy airbag in my truck but being a 3/4 ton I only have a single connection on the back and not dual like the light dutys... haven't tried taking one apart to see if I can swap the bags between the outer covers.
Hey matt, i know its an old video...but i just snagged a steering wheel from an 05 Escalade yesterday. Black with the woodgrain top and bottom. Still OEM but damn is it so much nicer. I wasnt super crazy about the feel of the grant wheel. Definitely anyone with an 03-06 GMT800, get you an Escalade wheel.
Looks good man. Thanks for taking time to document this stuff so the jobs aren't that surprising when we, the viewers, try these things. Keep it up. Love the content.
i just found you channel but i’m glad i did. I picked up an 06 Escalade steering wheel from a junk yard and ordered an 06 Envoy Denali airbag (with the nicer denali logo) to swap into my 03 Denali XL
I had a 2006 GMC Sierra and I put a Envoy airbag similar to that one in it except it said GMC on it. I did the Trailblazer airbag swap in my 06 Suburban, I also swapped in a Yukon Denali dash bezel and gauge cluster.
Been watching your Tahoe videos for a while. Oddly enough, my wife has a 2004 suburban and we have recently decided that I should get a better daily driver than my 84 C10. I am thinking if getting a 2002-05 Tahoe to match her Sub. You have given lots of ideas to clean and fix one up.
Had the proper steering wheel tool only pull the aluminum threads right out of my mustang's wheel. I instead did just like you, pulled on it all I could and it popped off. If you leave the nut threaded on a bit you won't hit yourself in the face with the wheel.
when i pull these wheels, i thread the nut back on part way, use a hammer drill with a 1/2" socket adapter then just put the socket on the partially tightened down nut and give it a few ugga duggas with the hammer drill
Question I want to also update my steering wheel I’ve already done the Blue Led Swap for all my switches I have a 05 GMC Yukon Denali so could I use the GMC Envoy Airbag to update the look plus my Airbag needs to be replaced I think anyway the light came on weeks ago I’d like to get the wood grain wheel of a Escalade and use the Envoy AB but it’s different style
You are starting to cost me a lot of money. I happened across your channel when I typed in "Tahoe" in the search bar. So far I have received my Tru-Cool heavy duty trans cooler and I am now waiting on the complete bracket kit from Tim. The tranny cooler is a must, the steering wheel is a "nice to have" that may be done after the leveling and 285's are on. I could "trade" my wife's TrailBlazer airbag for my Tahoe's and she probably wouldn't notice. Keep up the good work and quality videos. Nice to have informative videos without the cheesy and over the top music that detracts from what is being presented or explained. I don't know where you are in NY, but I'll be cruising up that way from NC in August to Lake George. Later. PS: It might be a good thing we sold the wife's 91' RS several years ago. I would be putting money into that again. Not a bad thing, but an addiction is an addiction.
I wont give you crap, as every application is different, but an application of a little M.A.N. had my wheel easily released from its home too. Great vid man. Keep it up. My '05 Suburban Z71 looks better thanks to you.
Hi Matt had a question. I have 2003 Yukon I am interested in adding steering wheel controls. My truck didnt come with them. Can I add the Envoy wheel with a Yukon clockspring.
I like that new Grant replacement steering wheel. How does it feel driving with that compared to the original? I'm thinking about doing that (and also a steering wheel control conversion since mine doesn't come with any) to my 06 Silverado and I wanted to get some owner's opinions before I buy it.
In your experience, if a vehicle didn't have the wheel switches, is there a harness connection already in the column ready for that option choice or would it be a different harness altogether?
you kept us waiting for this but worth the wait! cherish the streering wheel controls since the paint will wear off the more you use them, but good job man can't wait to see those new wheels next
Will this work if they don’t have the buttons in the steering wheel? Bc some tables don’t have that I was just wonder bc my Tahoe doesn’t have them and I want them and was gonna buy this new steering wheel but only if the buttons work?
I always just leave the nut on a few threads and pull and shake the steering wheel till it comes off. Using the nut so you don’t smack yourself in the face when the wheel finally comes off.
My son in law works for a Chevrolet Dealership and he said 90% of the steering wheels they pull are done by removing the center nut then plant both feet on the floor and grab the sides of the steering wheel and pull hard with a rocking motion.
Hey Lsx just stared following ure channel very nice n useful. I was wondering how did u get the controller on ure steering wheel to work with ure after market radio i cant get mine to work. I think someone once told me that i needed a module in other for the controller to work.
Mr LsxMatt nice video. I recently found your pages two days ago. Excellent content. I have a 2004 tahoe and you have fixed problems that mine has. I THINK because im not a good with the car like you. My mechanics sometime do not want to bother because they cant find the exact source and although I have break down insurance they also do not want to deal with the company. I really like the truck but I live in the city and everyday is an adventure. Im thinking about letting it go for something else. I just dont want another project. Any suggestions?
When you torqued the not you over torqued it. All you are supposed to do is put pressure on the torque wrench and when is pops or as we say brakes at the torque setting it is set. If you do it again you over torqued the nut. I was an aircraft engine mechanic in the Air Force and torque settings are very important when working in them.
Air bag safety, should wait min 5 minutes after disconnecting battery, or disconnect negative terminal then touch to positive terminal (warning) this will reset computer and all electronic systems hardwired to vehicle, well most vehicles it will.
All you have to do it bang it from the back side to side and it will break loose without using that tool hitting it with you palms from back of the steering wheel towards you
Lol did find it great video I just watch pretty much all the videos for the Tahoe I was wondering if u did a video for the driver side that was blowing hot air?!great videos boss!
Matt, is that wheel thicker than stock? They seem as if they are when looking on the Summit website. Thinking about getting one for my son's 2000 Silverado.
Love all your videoes mate, especially Tahoe ones, I was wondering, what's the chance that my 2000 suburban with no media keys on the steer wheel could swap out with one that has, or wire the job manually? Is it alot of hassle?
I think you can swap over steering wheel controls from the same year. Check out this thread: www.gmfullsize.com/threads/95-98-99-02-steering-wheel-audio-control-install.147628/
How about a like from everyone who has a steering wheel that looks or looked like the thumbnail👍
same as avalanche. hated that truck
You know you can set the air bag off even with the battery disconnected... 😐

You can also touch the battery cables together after removing the battery to drain capacitors. Always a good idea.
The hole in the TA console between the window switches is for a power mirrors switch. Glad you finally put a video up for the steering wheel, looks killer just wish Grant or any other company made one for 99-02
The power mirror control on my 86 is on the driver door panel I believe.
Some 85-86 had them on the driver door but all 87-92 where in the console between the window switches, Trust me, I've owned 7 Trans Am's (2 GTA Trans Am) and they all had that switch in that spot, I think my 82 had it on the door though

I’m about to come up on an ‘02 Yukon. Watching your videos has been awesome. I’m definitely going to be using them to do some upgrades to my rig.
That gold scratches off easy on that bow tie. Honestly thought about just JB welding a Tahoe emblem on top of it from an 07. But I sold it
I like watching the things you do to your Tahoe. Have made some of the changes you have made. Keep up the videos, they are great tutorials

Stoked I found your video... ordered and installed the same setup on my 05 DMAX after watching. Looks clean!
any tips on adding those buttons? My wheel doesnt have those, and I want them for sure!
Nice look I want that for my 01 tahoe but i was told the splines are different I thinking maybe changing the whole steering column
Yea I think this only fits 2003 and up
The wheel on my 2005 & 2003 Silverado pickups came off without a puller. Rapped them sharply on the backside of the ring with the heels of my hands.
when i pull these wheels, i thread the nut back on part way, use a hammer drill with a 1/2" socket adapter then just put the socket on the partially tightened down nut and give it a few ugga duggas with the hammer drill

What aftermarket radio did u get that allowed the steering wheel controls to wirk???
Mike you have to buy a seperate kit for the steering wheel controls thats what I had to do I have a Avh 2440 Pioneer touchscreen radio.
Could this wheel set up be installed and functional in a 99 tahoe? Would love to update my Tahoe with this wheel, and it be a fully working feature.

Is there any way to change the whole steering wheel to work with buttons, I have Silverado 2003 without the buttons

Remember to hold the the truck battery terminals together after unhooking the battery to de-energize the system. I don’t take chances with air bags.

I had a '92 Firebird with the same console. If I remember right that hole has a screaming chicken emblem in it.
Would swapping in the airbag to the stock steering wheel work?
Hey my button on my wheel work but don't lite up
How hard to change bulbs or are they led. I don't want but new button's if I can get a war with it
Can I install this steering wheel in my 2000 tahoe ? Ive been wanting to change it out for 1 with the switches on it
The Grant steering wheel is not available on that link anymore :(
Will this work on a 2002 chevy tahoe that doesn’t already have the controls in the steering wheel.?
You really don’t need a puller just rocket it back-and-forth a few times it’ll pop right off in a newer GM’s older ones you need a puller.
My son in law works for a Chevrolet Dealership and he said 90% of the steering wheels they pull are done by removing the center nut then plant both feet on the floor and grab the sides of the steering wheel and pull hard with a rocking motion.
My 1986 Z28 Consol between the power window switches was a switch to pop the hatch.
Hey Lsx just stared following ure channel very nice n useful. I was wondering how did u get the controller on ure steering wheel to work with ure after market radio i cant get mine to work. I think someone once told me that i needed a module in other for the controller to work.
Is it thicker circumference than the oem one?
Do you know if that steering wheel would work for the older style 2000-2002? I don’t have steering wheel controls
No. Different splined shaft on the older steering wheels.
They make a steering wheel puller (both domestic and metric threads) for that very purpose.
Mr LsxMatt nice video. I recently found your pages two days ago. Excellent content. I have a 2004 tahoe and you have fixed problems that mine has. I THINK because im not a good with the car like you. Can the steering wheel be used on a 2001 1500 hd Silverado

My truck doesn't come with the steering controls, can I upgrade to one without a lot of work?
I believ it’s a coin holder that’s missing in the center counsel. You can buy a blank cover or at AutoZone
Which steering wheel did you purchase?
Air bag safety, should wait min 5 minutes after disconnecting battery, or disconnect negative terminal then touch to positive terminal (warning) this will reset computer and all electronic systems hardwired to vehicle, well most vehicles it will.
Can you reuse the old airbag?? Not a fan of that gold emblem
How many miles on ur Tahoe man
216,000!
Nice upgrade, Def updates the look of the interior!
So you’d rather put a new steering wheel before you fix the check engine light?
Perty merch
I wish you put the updated steering wheel on, like you did to the wheels
All you have to do it bang it from the back side to side and it will break loose without using that tool hitting it with you palms from back of the steering wheel towards you
Every tahoe need that steering wheel but the 02 tahoe doesnt fit that steering wheel. What can i do to get it.
I wish this steering wheel was still in stock!!
Where is the trans am brake video at I have been looking forward to that video
I need to voiceover and edit it. Will be out after the next Tahoe video👍
Thanks for replying back
Will this work for my 07classic Sierra?
You're the best ❤👑
Do they sale the steering wheel without the control button cut outs??
Not sure
Small details are the biggest details
Can you put this steering wheel and airbag on 00-02?
Don’t think so
Hey boss I know what I'm going to ask it not related to the video bit I was wondering did u do the install on the stereo ur self?
Yea I have a video on it. Look on my channel, its only a few videos back.
Lol did find it great video I just watch pretty much all the videos for the Tahoe I was wondering if u did a video for the driver side that was blowing hot air?!great videos boss!
what year n model steering wheel thx
Just got a new steering wheel from summit, and swapped the switches with blue led switches
Do u still have that wheel partner .. Ill buy it to u .. Look way way much better then mine
Sorry got rid of it a while ago
Dude I love your channel!!
I put a escalade steering wheel im my 04 burban, with that same airbag
Summit link ? I want that wheel for my 2002 Tahoe
In the description👍
Aww man, I was waiting for the new airbag to explode
I've got a trailblazer and never thought about the fact that most of the stuff is the same😂
Do you know how I can get the lights to work I’m going put one of those on a 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 but I at least want the lights to work
I'm pretty sure GM used lights that are soldered into these switches. You might need to get some extra tools to remove them.
Matt, is that wheel thicker than stock? They seem as if they are when looking on the Summit website. Thinking about getting one for my son's 2000 Silverado.
Dino Vicaro will only fit 03-06 Silverado
@@AdrianGonzalez-ew8gu Grant also makes one for 99-02 GMT-800's, and I suspect grip will be similar.
