MLS hasn't been a "retirement league" for awhile because a lot of these big signings still go play in Europe during MLS off season (different schedules). Most of these "super star" players still play elsewhere after their MLS stint. I wouldn't be surprised if Messi returns to Barcelona during the MLS offseason.
