This reminds me of a saying that shows up in military joke circles: Vietnamese are gangsta until the water starts speaking _Korean_ . During the Vietnam War, the Korean Blue Dragon Division basically scared the _hell_ out of the VC and NVA, to the point that they would rather _avoid_ Korean positions and units than fight them.
Keiki Kobayashi was in the studio like "okay, this is the best soundtrack for any DLC we've made and a perfect love letter to all the new people we've introduced to the franchise through Ace Combat 7, drop it"
And the crazy part of it is that Keiki only made the songs for the final part of the DLC. Everything else was newer composers to the series, so when Keiki eventually retires I will feel like the music of the series is still in good hands.
@@ZKP314 if it weren't for that News I wouldn't have paid attention to Ace Combat After playing it and get the PS2 games it made me regret not getting into it back then
I just got into Unexpected Visitor and I thought right off the bat; "Keiki Kobayashi had just gotten done creating one of the most epic modern soundtracks for an ace combat game with a fairly uniquely uniform set of scores, and now just was given three DLC missions to run free with and he came up with THIS." Like, my God you could tell he was having fun with it.
"Heed my words! This boat has the means to end this hideous war, in a definitive and elegant manner." Captain Matias Torres The Alicorn is the primary antagonist for a set of DLC for Ace Combat. The Alicorn is a new type of submersible aircraft cruiser, it's weapons also includes a rail cannon capable of nuclear strikes. It has been submerged for almost a year now and its crew seeks to end the war by any means necessary.
Matias Torres takes the cake as one of the most despicable villains ever depicted in aviation combat games. Fucker laughs like he's the Joker if you fail to stop him from launching the nuke on Oured & when he dies going down with the ship after you FINALLY sink that oversized whale(boss fight was not easy, I'll give it that), still thinking he's right.
@@justinl8791 Dude's just straight mad. He's... not quite illogical though. He basically wanted to create a Hiroshima/ Nagasaki situation to force the issue of 'WAR IS BAD PLS STAHP'. Which absolutely insane, but not... pure evil. Pure evil would be nuking Oured just to nuke Oured.
@@justinl8791 not only that but he’s so butt hurt about losing the Continental war he wants to nuke Orad when there have a celebration of the anniversary of the end of the Continental war
Someone pointed out that the way the voices are used at around 18:07 and 18:18 sounds very similar to the ping of a submarine's radar, which is very fitting given you're fighting one.
11:06 knowing the context of this mission, the tables turn multiple times, and everytime you think you have the madman in a corner he uses something you dont expect all while giggling and laughing over the radio. Both physically and verbally a back and forth in this mission.
There's a reason he's considered a Singularity. He is to submarines, what Trigger, Mobius 1, Razgriz 1, Talisman and so on are to planes - a factor beyond all calculations that can only be stopped in direct conflict by another Singularity. The run-up missions have Osean spooks trying to kill off both Erusean and their OWN Singularities covertly just because they're so afraid of a factor they can't control and can't defeat being out there and active.
Ten Million Relief Plan, the mission where those 3 songs play in, is one of the craziest missions in the entire series, it depicts war as pure madness and chaos even in just a small skirmish, bodies falling from the sky in burning aircraft everywhere, and a Submarine carrying nuclear weapons comandeered by a madman who just wants to kill a million people for pure evil. The 3 songs play in 3 sections of the mission, "Awakening" is the hunt for the Submarine, "Alicorn" depicts the fight against the Alicorn, "The Hero of Comberth Harbor" basically depicts the wrath of a god over those evil men, the god being the protagonist. Even the dialogue is crazy: "-What happened?! LOAD THE NEXT SHELL!" "-FCS Error! Can't raise the elevation of the barrel! -Three Strikes in the sky is a sign of an ill omen. -Captain? -ALL SLOW AHEAD! FLOOD THE AFT TRIM TANKS! -Sir the boat will sink aft first...! -AND THAT'LL GIVE THE GUN THE ELEVATION IT NEEDS! Heheheheh!"
The Hero of Comberth Harbor actually has two versions, the OST version and the in-game version, they're basically the same but the in-game version is little more intense than the OST version at the beginning
10:45 In the DLC, a data analysis considers the Captain of the Alicorn and the Player Character as "singularities". Whenever one of them is in a combat operation, any predictions based on common sense of strategy and tactics will be invalid. When the two "singularities" are battling each other, the AI that helps with the analysis says that it will take more than 3 months of calculation to even get an idea of what will happen.
Now that is skill. Unpredictability is the greatest weapon of these aces that allows them to soar to the highs that they do. It can't be predicted what they will do, at least not in that instant.
For Tores it's unpredictability, for Trigger, it's the ability to adapt and overcome. Trigger has adapted to numerous suicidal missions during the campaign, from flying a signature trench run to evading railgun nukes.
*"A powerful boat, a powerful gun, powerful ammunition! Add to that lots of people and a precise aim! Then sprinkle death over all of it, and the formula is complete!"*
Did you notice the choir in Hero of Conberth Harbour imitates sonar pings at one point? Perfection. These three tracks play one after the other in the same mission. And let me tell you, that is one hell of a mission. Captain Mattias Torres of the Alicorn is said to be the most evil antagonist in all the AC games. His themes fit him perfectly.
Given that the previous candidates for "Most Evil Villain" of Ace Combat were a Dictator who took money for his own pockets and then blamed the people who tried to do a humanitarian mission *for the thing he's doing to them* and a corrupt CEO who wants to get rich off of war insurance, Torres was something else.
Most of the other Ace Combat antagonists have intentions that are at least understandable. Like Navarro at least wanted to make money and Cohen was motivated by revenge. Their actions aren’t justified by any means, and you could call easily call Navarro greedy, but their motives are understandable to a degree. Torres, however, simply wanted to kill millions of innocent people because he wanted to and because he had the means to do it. TLDR: Most of the AC antagonists are humans who do monstrous things. Torres is a monster.
@@hourlardnsaver362 Cohen was mad that his crush liked Dision, and then when somebody else killed both her and Dision, he held Dision responsible because a copy of Dision survived in the Wlectrosphere. He then made NEMO to destroy that copy.
Just so you know, these three tracks all play in A SINGLE MISSION BACK TO BACK. Ace Combat 7’s DLC music has no right to go this hard for a random side story.
@@archiExist there were 2 versions of Enchanter(I is the main show, II is when Mimic appear) and Sighthound, there is a potential argument there Meanwhile no one can argue with DLC mission 2, only 2, Anchorhead and Mimic SQ
Coming back to it, I think the key idea in these three tracks is escalation. There are two phrases that get repeated throughout the three: "Salutem pavidos, mea requies est." (Salvation of the fearful, this is my solution.) "Salutem pavidos, mea iudicum est." (Salvation of the fearful, this is my judgement.) In each track, they're said differently. In Awakening, it's quiet, almost a whispered threat. In Alicorn, it's more of a declaration. "This is my judgement." Finally, in Hero of Comberth Harbor, it all goes off the rails. It's a threatening declaration made by a crazy person. All three of these perfectly encapsulate Matias Torres' (the guy you're fighting) mental state during the fight; a threat, to a declaration, to a deranged war cry.
I HEREBY SWEAR I WILL BE A PROUD, BRAVE, AND VIGILANT SOLDIER. TO UPHOLD THE HONOR OF OUR NATION AND ITS MILITARY. TO SUBMIT TO THE ORDERS OF MY SUPERIORS
Thanks for another AC reaction. They never fail to impress. 4:37 Into the Dusk from Ace Combat 5. One of the saddest and most powerful songs in that game. Never forget Captain Davenport. AC7 was much when it came to like the emotional stuff. 4 and 5 take the cake there imo. 6 had it's moments early. The main civilian you follow losing her daughter then finding her husband's shot down fighter crashed next to the road gets me. Being Left Behind is the track for that scene. It's only a minute and a half but it cuts deeeeeep with the context of what you're watching. Will never not recommend Jose Pavli and the Project Wingman OST. His live orchestra video for the anniversary was insane. Even as a jaded AC fan who grew up with the Agnus Dei, Unsung War, and Zero, Kings from PR can't be touched. Blowing out my eardrums with that will never get old. They absolutely demolished it live.
The live version of Kings was amazing, but you literally can't touch the original melody for the final act. Just taking practically every piece from the OST and stringing it into what feels like an extended version of Presidia carries the performance for me. Its a culmination of everything, and it still moves me
I'm glad that you listened to the Holy Trio, now it's time to see how different the music is for Ace Combat 3 and hear your thoughts on the futuristic dystopian world and it's music that has to offer compared to the next titles.
"Don't worry, the calculations say you only need one us-" **static** The anti-submarine planes the player has to protect in the first section of the mission are some of my favorite allies in the games. There's this giant sub on its way to nuke a city, they're in full on suicide mission mode and just keep going because failure is not an option. (Also Faceless Soldier is another cool AC7 vocal track.)
That is one way to make the old videogame standby of 'oh god this is going to suck to play through' of an escort mission work. Make the escort target willing to die to see the task through, if you've written it well that will make them heroic.
"We're gonna come for you first." That's actually pretty much what happens. Captain matias Torres orders the main guns of the alicorn (which includes railguns that are capable of sinking entire fleets in a few shots.) to target trigger (the player Charakter) specifically because he is in his eyes the greatest threat. Basically using a rocket powered sledgehammer against a fly.
When speaking about Ace Combat tragedy music the first thing that came into my mind was "Into the Dusk" from Ace Combat 5. That's some powerful song even though I've never had the chance to play 5. Anyway, I hope someone has told you this but when you play Ace Combat 7 please set the control to "expert". It's better than the normal control since it offers a full control of your aircraft, the way the game intended to be played.
You mentioned that Hero of Comberth Harbor is different from most Ace Combat music because it doesn't instill confidence and evokes a sense of fear, an even better example of that I think would be interesting to see your reaction to is Gleipnir from Ace Combat X, its a very... unique song.
I'd like to see him watch or listen to the ost for the final mission of AC04--from Silent to Mobius to Agnus Dei to Heaven's Gate to Victory to Blue Skies.
@@ZKP314 Have you listened to Silent from AC04? It's the briefing theme of Megalith and it is absolutely chilling in game. Sadly no one lingers on the briefing screen in gameplay videos.
Damn I REALLY slept on Awakening. Then again it's hard to recognize how good songs are when we also have masterpieces like Daredevil mixed into Ace Combat 7.
Chandelier would definitely be a great fit for the channel. It’s one of the few songs in Ace Combat that is utterly devoid of upbeat energy, yet is quite beautiful
-Your prediction is not wrong when you said during Alicorn that "the enemy is fighting back". There's a good reason why AC community have a quote "when the sea start speaking latin". If you heard that song, you know shit is about to go down -The "Hero of Comberth Harbor" is the title given to Matias Torres, a fleet commander of the invincible Aegir fleet, which you sunk before in previous AC game. He didn't managed to defend the harbor, but he got that title for his heroic action. Now you face him again, only with even more crazed, unstable mental state and wielding even deadlier ship -The 3 songs' lyrics are basically the same, only presented differently to fit different narrative tone. However, all of them basically tells the player about the motivation and the hatred of Matias Torres and his crew about the world and their twisted view of salvation of humanity from the shackles of perpetual war Salūtem omnibus Salvation for all- Daemon requiēscēs You will arrest it, demon. Salūtem omnibus Salvation for all- Daemon tū dēfugis You refuse it, demon. Expergīscimini Rouse yourselves! Salūtem omnibus Salvation for all! Pista ungula Wounded hoof, Adnihilā (x2) Destroy everything! Salūtem omnibus Salvation for all- Quibus artāveris For those you’ll have held close. Arma īnfernī Weapons from hell!
That’s apparently the fan ear translation. There’s a translation that is more accurate to some documents apparently: TBA (but can be seen in Zaptronic’s upload when using Closed Captions) I like a combination of both actually.
I love how these tracks build off each other as the mission progresses in intensity and desperation, really makes the mission be what it is. Ace combat just isn't the same without the soundtrack. The game itself is a lot of fun and the story can be a journey if you get into it, hope you have as much fun with it as I did.
I'm thrilled to hear that you picked up AC7! I hope you have as much fun playing as you did listening. Word of caution, though - the fanbase can be picky about some things, so don't let them boss you around.
OH YOU DID THE WHOLE THING! Oh hot damn! Get the popcorn and drinks! I really love this whole trio because of the buildup. Awakening is when you are hunting down the Alicorn you're fighting off waves of drones to protect your sonar planes. You're diving through the clouds over the open ocean hoping and praying you'll make it in time to save them. Even as they joke that they only really need two planes to finish the mission. Alicorn is the main boss battle, there are tracers, railgun shots, enemy fighters, drones, and SO MANY MISSILES All flying through the air all at once. You have to hit as hard as you can before the Alicorn dives beneath the waves once more. Hands down it is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE SONG the way the music SWELLS as the Alicorn RISES from the deep. With the back and forth between the two sides. Then you have Hero of Comberth Harbor, the final stand. And it just HITS the roof and blows it away. So glad you took the time to do a reaction for these tracks. I've been waiting on the edge of my seat for a long time and I'm loving every moment of your reactions and commentary! ^^
Essentially, Awakening is you searching out the enemy as he evades you, Alicorn is him choosing to fight you now that you've forced his hand, and Hero of Comberth Harbor is him showing you his full tenacity that has been overtaken by suicidal madness.
8:53 This reminds me of an interview I saw with a pilot of an F-8 Crusader (Korea-era fighter jet, known as "The Last Gunfighter). In it, he said that while there was plenty of things to be scared of - missiles, ace pilots, and so on - the one thing a Crusader was never afraid of was another fighter jet. They were taught to have such confidence in their skills and their craft that they would never be afraid to see an enemy fighter inbound.
I think it’s actually super interesting how that without context it seems more heroic… but with context…maniacal. It goes from the theme of a hero with poor understanding… to the theme of an absolute madman. The unwavering resolve of his crew. From the typical tale of a confident hero… to a seemingly unstoppable power of a maniac. From heroism to insanity and desperation… and all it takes is context
It's amazing how while using the same lyrics, they made three separate tracks, that manage to invoke completely different images and convey different emotions
I feel among the great tracks the Ace Combat 7 Soundtrack has “Hush” is one that fails to get recognized for some reason. It’s one that is very powerful for me and I’m sure you’d enjoy a lot aswell. Especially the intro which is about 1,5 minutes. Love to see Ace Combat here. Hope you keep enjoying what you are doing!
I love Hush. Hush is in a weird spot though because it's the theme for the final bossfight, but that bossfight isn't the end, there's another section following. And right before Hush you have the original final fight against the Arsenal Bird with Daredevil. So the fight against the drones is sandwiched between two climaxes. It's little storytelling touches like these that make me wonder if how much of the story we got was actually planned out. Some parts feel like they were slotted in at the last minute without consideration for the overall narrative flow.
@@nikolasrhine3252 good point, that’s true. Despite the mission or rather the part of the mission during which the song plays isn’t as impactful compared to what happened before and what happens after, “Hush” still is up there with the best of the OST for me
It's wonderful hearing that description of Alicorn. In the game mission intro, your character and an enemy are likened to each other. To pivotal figures that cast enormous influence of those around them... singularities. And even the assistant evaluating these two figures cannot give a confident answer about the outcome without more data and more time.. I had not thought of that showing in the music like that. Thank you.
@@jocax188723 i actually think the original version of kings is better tbh, i don't think the live version has nearly as much of emotional punch to the face the intro of the original has, it's like the sky is on fire
4:28 - I think the Gleipnir track from Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception is the music piece that tries to instill fear into player. Or at least makes them feel nervous.
You only have to listen to "Singularity" on your own to close this sea of emotions and events that occur in this mission. When you start playing Ace Combat, having listened to several tracks of the ost, you will enjoy it much more, since the rhythms of the ost are usually synchronized with the maneuvers and actions that you execute with the plane in real time. Sometimes when you play it for the first time and you don't listen to the ost, those little moments of synchrony are lost because you tend to focus more on the battle and everything that happens around, that's why I usually lower the volume a little to all the effects of the game and turn the music up to maximum volume.
Honestly such spooky music, the unsettling lack of drums and big sounds makes the mission harder, like playing music without a metronome, even though there is a specific mission objective that requires good timing basically every couple of minutes as you have to destroy warheads before they are loaded into the railgun chamber as literally hundreds of varied targets try to kill you deader than dead. That last mission is send-you-to-therapy hard without the Nosferatu 😱
Really gotta love that slight play on our emotions like at 08:00 - you get this little fanfare, a sound bite AC veterans associate with victory, right before the choir sets in. Because this isn't over yet not by a long shot.
Would recommend watching the dlc trailer with Alicorn and checking these tracks out With Sonar Pings. I find that it gives character to the actual submarine that you fight.
I'm no Latin expert but I heard discussion online that the lyrics for the chorus say something akin to "Salutem Hominos" and "Daemon Requies est" (probably butchered the spelling) translating roughly to "Salvation of Humanity" and "The Demon is at Rest" Captain Torres, at one point at least, truly believed he was doing the right thing to save humanity, but once he's too fargone, all that's left in that submarine is a Demon at rest, waiting to surface and take action.
The first that instantly came to mind with this was O' Fortuna. Those sharp vocals that are almost like verbal punches. Then it changes into something that makes me think of the Jaws instrumental, with that rich depth that both lingers and jolts at the same time. The whole thing tastes like strong coffee with a small amount of milk and a bit of whipped cream.
Nice view on the music. Especially with these three being in the same mission. Awakening also sets the mood for the mission. It is your ONE AND ONLY chance to put a stop to the antagonists plan. Especially since it is considered a secret mission, there are not a lot of reinforcements, only the mission essentials (common to make a fight bigger for the player in game wise) Some people even know they won't return from this. Alicorn is a nice catch of you. The switch in sides. This part in the mission is indeed a hide and seek between your plane and a submarine. It is evading you by all means, and you are under immense pressure to find this damn sub. As you have AC7, I won't say how, experience it yourself. Hero of Comberth Harbor. It is dropped in briefing who Captain Matias Torres is and why his men are sticking with him till the end. They don't fear him, they adore him, trust him. And that crew is in the sub that just decided that all guns they have are to be aimed at you. Railguns, guns, missiles, drones, planes. It forces you to go faster and faster, taking little time to aim your shots. As having spammed this mission. It felt like the instruments are all weapons aimed at me, and the voices were my weapons, almost overwhelmed and surpressed. However it comes together in the final, as you said, ends like Duel of Fates. Again with a reason, but I only try to explain feeling. Though there are people who spoil the whole, it is a different experience if you do it yourself. Once again a very fine react to the songs, I thank you sir.
The Alicorn is basically if you took a modern (future, really) nuclear aircraft carrier and made it a super-submarine. The "chanting" bits in the song titled Alicorn, even though they're in Latin, have always reminded me of the Russian songs in The Hunt for Red October.
That last track just showcases the build up Torres' insanity so well. The first moments are just him maniacally scheming in his mind and suddenly his CDO interrupts him and the mission starts.
Now I remembered why I came back for your music commentary. You lays down what you feels about the music to your audience that even someone without any music background can understand. Other music commentary channels comment about the music by using complicated jargon that only someone with music education could understand. Thanks to you, I could appreciate these music more. Keep up the good work...
It’s a compliment to OST if you can in general discern, what is happening in the game by just listening to music. Your general ideas about events in mission were accurate enough.
The Alicorn Trilogy is a story in three acts; one about hunting a great and terrible beast. Act 1 (Awakening): The Hunt Act 2 (Alicorn): The Chase Act 3 (Hero of Comberth Harbor): The Ticking Clock The lyrics are all about the DLC's villain and his mental state. A mental state so fractured and deteriorated that the sonar pings of his submarine are even part of the choir. He has become his submarine, and his submarine has become him. It's also interesting that, like Archange, Hero of Comberth Harbor also doesn't end on a fade into the next loop. It crescendos and finishes, as neither are situations meant to continue. It is fated to end here and now. Anyway, glad to hear you picked up Ace Combat 7 and look to play it in the future! Just a heads up, when presented with a question about controls, the community is huge (very very huge) into 'Expert' controls where it's more precise and visceral. The other controls are more akin to Star Fox.
For a lot of people "Awakening" makes them fell a badass sensation, but for me is nothing but desesperance. more than a million lives are in the sight of a nuclear weapon that is heading to being launched, you are in a race against the clock to find and destroy one of the most powerful Erusean weapons equiped with a high tech arsenal (Drones, Railguns, Insane Amount Of Missiles And EM Barriers) leaded by a mentally instable captain who brainwashed all the crew to follow him with his crazy plan and the only chance to find that sea monster are 4 patrol planes willing to give their lives to help you even when they know that you might wont be able to protectem all. for me a really tense situation and thats why i love this song and why love so much Ace Combat
If you want to get a feel for the character these tracks are about, look up 'Sub Marine Odyssey - A Matias Torres Story', a musical number compiled entirely from his voice clips. It's only slightly more insane than the actual character.
The amazing thing about Awakening is that it's synergistically medleying ~12 other songs from the franchise so well that even AC vets don't notice it the first few times they hear it.
I love how at the time of the video you didn't know the context of the music in the game but still manage to hit pretty close to the plot. Shows how great music can paint a picture even if you know nothing of the subject.
Almost every villain in the Ace Combat series has had some level of nobility to their actions, at a major or minor level. ...All Except Torres. A psychopath put behind the wheel of the most powerful naval war machine ever built, the Alicorn. A football field sized submarine/aircraft carrier packing dozens of anti air weapons, missiles, twin railguns as main guns, and the ability to turn its entire center platform into one gigantic railgun.. The mission to stop him is to protect planes dropping sonar buoys to ping his submarine. When he's cornered, the bastard pops out of the water guns blazing, sinking a whole submarine hunter killer fleet and then turning the ship's *Giant Main Guns* on you, a *Plane.* Torres will stop at nothing to launch a nuclear warhead at the festival in the capital and kill a million people with a single shot. All three tracks for the hunt and battle against Torres and his leviathan make fantastic use of Ace Combat's dedication to leitmotifs and a slowly escalating, intensified rhythm and choir. Torres is a fucking monster, the most singularly evil character in the series history. If you look at a translation of the lyrics, it embodies him perfectly. A repetitive chant about a weapon that will bring salvation (Torres believes killing a million people in one swoop will bring salvation by ending the war, and to that end frequently shouts about SALVATION). It's truly magnificent. "Alicorn" in particular is one of my favorites in this whole banger OST for how sinister and intense it is and how it gradually rises.
Oh, the Hero of Comberth Harbor was crisp indeed. *resisting the urge to make a "Crisp White Sheets" reference (Ace Combat Fandom joke about an in-game quote)
Another great AC reaction always enjoy seeing these. Thanks for keeping up this series, and I am really looking forward to the next one. During Alicorn you mentioned how the track starts out confident and then it is almost like the opposing side answers back. There is a cycle of establishing confidence, questioning that confidence, and then finally reaffirming that confidence in a lot of AC tracks that I really enjoy. Magic Spear 1+2 really demonstrate this well I feel. Magic Spear 1 seems like it was made to just make the player feel like the coolest guy in the sky. Then toward the end of 1 and after the transition into 2 the music starts to add tenser elements, asking the player "Are you sure you're really that good?". Then by the end of 2 the song has looped back around to that confidence displayed at the beginning of 1 and you feel like you can answer back "Yeah I am that good!"
There twogreat sound tracks too, its anchor head bay and sightound, thank you so much for this video i was waiting someone to hear this great soundtrack for a long time. Salvation of the fearful is my judgment Salvation of the fearful is my relief plan
The thing about the Hero of Comberth Harbor is, it is a song about Torres' madness, but also about us and our rage. The song came when Torres risking sinking his submarine along with him and everybody in it, willing or not, only to launch his nuke. All the while practically doing a war crime (he did this after surrendering), and we race against time before the nuke launch. All of his crews could be saved and live should he really surrender, but he's not, and when before we try to restrain him, this time we MUST go for the kill, however unwillingly. It has no reason to go this hard for a DLC mission, but they did
Im a recent sub and started to check out your stuff about a week ago and its so refreshing to have someone like you react to amazing tracks across these amazing games. Bless your ace combat videos 🙏
Can't wait to watch you stream AC 7!!! It'll definitely give you a lot more context for many of the songs on the soundtrack. For example, in alicorn, there's certainly a tremendous amount of foreboding, as the sortie turns out a lot more harrowing and high stakes then expected.
Hero of Comberth Harbor (which was called Ten Million Relief Plan before we knew the official title) is a good track, but it's worth noting that in game since you can hear your opponents talking over the radio, you can actually hear alarms related to how damaged the ship you're fighting is behind the arc villain talking. "All slow ahead, flood the aft trim tanks!" "Sir, that will sink the boat aft first!" "And that'll give the gun the elevation it needs!"
I'm a little late to the party but I'm so excited for you to play Ace Combat for the first time. I've loved these games since I was a young kid and the OST is always top tier!! Hope you enjoy!
I highly recommend either playing or at minimum watching gameplay for the level in question, the music is just once piece of the puzzle for the DLC, the voice acting, pacing, mission objectives, plot implications, dialogue and gameplay itself really made this level in particular a treat for ace combat.
4:19 That's something that I too have come to discover about Ace Combat 7(and possibly other AC games, though I've only played 7). Its ability to empower the player is incredible and it's not just in the music. The npc dialogue as well is filled with such empowerment . A prime example is in one of the missions where you're dogfighting a boss and one character says "You can do it! In fact, you're the only one who can!"
Awaken - You march with your team to the horizon in order to face the enemy at all cost for the sake of your nation. Alicorn - You engage the enemy, but they have the most deadliest piece of war machine ever created by mankind. Hero of Comberth Harbor - You just awoken god... and he is piss.
The Hero of Comberth gives me Jaws vibes a bit. Which makes sense. The Hero of Comberth Harbor, the antagonist of this DLC, is captaining the submarine Alicorn. And this is the big showdown where everything is on the line. I love it. It's Ace Combat's love letter to Hunt for Red October.
The theme encapsulate perfect how it feels the search is and how all is at stakes, from having to deal with the drones and the Rafales coming at you, while the recon planes are frantically throwing boys to figure out where the Alicorn is. The best part of this part is when you had to pin point the location and get jammed by the boys they throw to interrupts before you race again for clean them out. Also the lyrics is basically telling you how much the Alicorn in a menace who needs to be put down immediately or there won't be any chance again. Then the other theme encapsulate how much of a psycho Matias Torres is and if you don't stop the Alicorn, said goodbye OSEA's capital Oured.
One game series I think you should look up the music for is Nioh. It's a bit more Eastern than you might be used to, but I think you'd like it quite a bit.
Something I think would be a cool addition to these types of vids: some background on the artists involved or their process of creating these pieces. It'd be cool to learn the story of the songs' creation in addition to the story the songs themselves are telling.
I stumbled across this one to see if you had reacted to any more Ace Combat music... and you reacted to the CRISP WHITE SHEETS of Captain Torres. I love your reactions :)

This is the same guy who delayed the game so he could get Daredevil just right, in case you were wondering if he does this on a regular basis.
@@ZKP314 if it weren't for that News I wouldn't have paid attention to Ace Combat
After playing it and get the PS2 games it made me regret not getting into it back then
I just got into Unexpected Visitor and I thought right off the bat; "Keiki Kobayashi had just gotten done creating one of the most epic modern soundtracks for an ace combat game with a fairly uniquely uniform set of scores, and now just was given three DLC missions to run free with and he came up with THIS." Like, my God you could tell he was having fun with it.
"Heed my words! This boat has the means to end this hideous war, in a definitive and elegant manner."
Captain Matias Torres
The Alicorn is the primary antagonist for a set of DLC for Ace Combat.
Fyi, Alicorn isn't really new, it's an improvised version of the Scinfaxi Class Submarines
@@justinl8791 not only that but he’s so butt hurt about losing the Continental war he wants to nuke Orad when there have a celebration of the anniversary of the end of the Continental war
thought it was submerged for 2 years?
Someone pointed out that the way the voices are used at around 18:07 and 18:18 sounds very similar to the ping of a submarine's radar, which is very fitting given you're fighting one.
Oh that's true! Very nice!
Not to mention the alicorns sister ships, scinfaxi and hrimfaxi heavily use sonar pings as part of their themes. Which is a nice throwback to AC5.
yea its the sonar pings
correct. the "Ah" is supposed to be sonar pings
It's not the first time Kobayashi use sonar ping in his song. He made song for Arpeggio of the Blue Steel, and that song have prominent sonar ping
Even the dialogue is crazy:
"-What happened?! LOAD THE NEXT SHELL!"
"-FCS Error!
Heheheheh!"
The Hero of Comberth Harbor actually has two versions, the OST version and the in-game version, they're basically the same but the in-game version is little more intense than the OST version at the beginning
and different endings. he really needs to do an addendum with the other track.
Absolutely, the in game version is much much better and more thematic leading off of Alicorn
There’s also a version of Alicorn with the radar pings and burst missile explosions in the background....it adds a lot.
@@AREB1DER
Well considering this is an edit not actually found in the game, it does add a lot of atmosphere to the already atmospheric mission
@@KAlZER0 Well, what is more intense when you are having a sub captain threatening to nuke Oured and nearly nuked it? It's beautify stressful.

I did notice!!! That’s pretty cool!

Coming back to it, I think the key idea in these three tracks is escalation.
There are two phrases that get repeated throughout the three:
"Salutem pavidos, mea requies est." (Salvation of the fearful, this is my solution.)
"Salutem pavidos, mea iudicum est." (Salvation of the fearful, this is my judgement.)
In each track, they're said differently.
In Awakening, it's quiet, almost a whispered threat.
In Alicorn, it's more of a declaration. "This is my judgement."
Finally, in Hero of Comberth Harbor, it all goes off the rails. It's a threatening declaration made by a crazy person.
All three of these perfectly encapsulate Matias Torres' (the guy you're fighting) mental state during the fight; a threat, to a declaration, to a deranged war cry.
Awesome thoughts on this! I agree :)
These tracks are so damn fitting for the character they revolve around, especially once you translate the Latin.

Can't forget Chandelier from AC6. Such a different tone compared to other AC final mission songs.
Yes, Project Wingman soundtrack is good 😊
The live version of Kings was amazing, but you literally can't touch the original melody for the final act.
"Don't worry, the calculations say you only need one us-" **static**
The anti-submarine planes the player has to protect in the first section of the mission are some of my favorite allies in the games.
"We're gonna come for you first."
That's actually pretty much what happens.
A very very deadly fly

Can't wait to see him play the game on twitch and he'll start to notice how some themes are blended into other songs
RUclips. Never twitch. :)

Sometimes when you play it for the first time and you don't listen to the ost, those little moments of synchrony are lost because you tend to focus more on the battle and everything that happens around, that's why I usually lower the volume a little to all the effects of the game and turn the music up to maximum volume.
hey you're the mix person! tu canal es un tesoro de cosas de canciones y ace combat!
I strongly recommend listening to "Chandelier" from Ace Combat 6. It's heavenly. Certainly up there with "Archange".
Chandelier is such a beautifully haunting piece. Definitely agree, great recommendation!
9:00 feels like the unstoppable force finally meeting the immovable object
Would recommend watching the dlc trailer with Alicorn and checking these tracks out With Sonar Pings. I find that it gives character to the actual submarine that you fight.
I'm no Latin expert but I heard discussion online that the lyrics for the chorus say something akin to "Salutem Hominos" and "Daemon Requies est" (probably butchered the spelling) translating roughly to "Salvation of Humanity" and "The Demon is at Rest"
Captain Torres, at one point at least, truly believed he was doing the right thing to save humanity, but once he's too fargone, all that's left in that submarine is a Demon at rest, waiting to surface and take action.
When that last track hits plus the game radio chatter = goosebumps
You should listen to Hush AC7, that soundtrack is so underrated
I definitely recommend Hush.
Hush & Battle for Farbanti rival Daredevil as my favourite ac7 track. Both are extremely underrated
I like how he mentions the confidence in the music since it's more of the villans music since this dlc is more about him than the player
Oh ya good point!!!
You’re welcome :)
It’s a compliment to OST if you can in general discern, what is happening in the game by just listening to music. Your general ideas about events in mission were accurate enough.
Pretty cool as you can imagine scenarios with just the music, great video as always!
'Elegant' is how I would describe this trio
I'd say crude, but effective.
I absolutely love your reaction and analysis for these game OSTs, looking forward to more of them!
"Mimic Rage&Scream" is also very different... Also AC7 on sale in Steam, so I finally got it!
The Alicorn Trilogy is a story in three acts; one about hunting a great and terrible beast.
Act 1 (Awakening): The Hunt
Act 2 (Alicorn): The Chase
Act 3 (Hero of Comberth Harbor): The Ticking Clock
The lyrics are all about the DLC's villain and his mental state.
Salvation of the fearful is my judgment
Salvation of the fearful is my relief plan
This is certainly a treat! I will never not love seeing you react to Ace Combat music. It’s all so unique yet manages to share that FEEL of Ace Combat
Glad you’re enjoying the channel! :)
Your Alicorn OST review is Spot on! But In Reverse!
i've been waiting for this for soooo long, thanks
Can't wait to watch you stream AC 7!!!
It'll definitely give you a lot more context for many of the songs on the soundtrack. For example, in alicorn, there's certainly a tremendous amount of foreboding, as the sortie turns out a lot more harrowing and high stakes then expected.
This video does scream and rage out the feels the need of Salvation
Hero of Comberth Harbor (which was called Ten Million Relief Plan before we knew the official title) is a good track, but it's worth noting that in game since you can hear your opponents talking over the radio, you can actually hear alarms related to how damaged the ship you're fighting is behind the arc villain talking.
"All slow ahead, flood the aft trim tanks!"
"Sir, that will sink the boat aft first!"
"And that'll give the gun the elevation it needs!"
17:21 was expecting him to start saying crisp white sheets, ngl.
Captain Torres: One million lives gone. Picture it!
I'm a little late to the party but I'm so excited for you to play Ace Combat for the first time. I've loved these games since I was a young kid and the OST is always top tier!! Hope you enjoy!
Thank you for making this reaction! Also thank you for answering my comment in an earlier video.
Epic review!
I also recommend Sol Squadron in the future. It's friggin' awesome!
I highly recommend either playing or at minimum watching gameplay for the level in question, the music is just once piece of the puzzle for the DLC, the voice acting, pacing, mission objectives, plot implications, dialogue and gameplay itself really made this level in particular a treat for ace combat.
Hint, this level happens before the Battle of Faranti
Very cool analysis, its almost musical/opera esque with how well the music is carrying the vibes of the plot
Alicorn always gives me goosebumps. To me it sounds like lunacy. War and ultranationalism.
Yessssss I was hoping you'd come back to these!
Alicorn is the one winged angel of ace combat
The Hero of Comberth Harbor: "Oh fuck, he has a Nuke."
You can sum up the three pieces quite well as the Hunt, the Confrontation and the Final Gambit
Something I think would be a cool addition to these types of vids: some background on the artists involved or their process of creating these pieces. It'd be cool to learn the story of the songs' creation in addition to the story the songs themselves are telling.
Ace Combat 7 contains super incredible lovely music! I'm amazed about that.
So thrilled to see this game continuing to get so much attention- I'll be thrilled to see you stream it if you decide to! 🙌🙌
was waiting for this video and pretty sure im going to enjoy it, greetings Marco!
I stumbled across this one to see if you had reacted to any more Ace Combat music... and you reacted to the CRISP WHITE SHEETS of Captain Torres. I love your reactions :)
At 9:40 the choir is actually singing "Salvation for all. Annihilation!".
And then they scream in a pure rage and agony "AAAAA" while chaotic strings represents the nuclear blast vaporizing people :3
Yahar! It is I Captain Torres! I am as sane as any scurvy dog in this ship
Torres you have to hand over the nuke and the anime
