That Face of Alaphillp says it all about the day.
For wet and rainy conditions, this was better than he usually does. At Worlds 19', Tirreno 21' stage 5, Suisse 21' stage 2 he just had no punch, and looked totally checked out.
Fabulous. I was Gee’d up after this Lantern race review. Gonna go harder Sunday.

I've gotten so used to seeing Powless get into a perfect position in big races and then either not have the legs, lose it to bad luck, or blow it with a badly-timed attack, that when it just all came together for him, at every turn I was like "wait, that's illegal" "he's winning... he's winning? That's not supposed to happen, let me see the script"
And then finishing it off with that sprint, in which on paper he was so hopelessly outclassed and then he did it anyway. What a legend.
Very happy to see Powless take the win. Have to admit I wanted Honoré, but not unhappy with results. That crash cost him. Mohoric is super strong right now. Anyone in a break with him has to work.

Very telling to see the power data as riders put in efforts as they get closer to the finish.
I had Simon Carr in my team on World Cycling stats.....never expected Powless being the one to compete for the win though....

Simon Carr did 6.6 W/kg for 13 min after 180 km at Erlaitz. Faster than Pogacar and anyone else in the Itzulia Basque Country with worse conditions. No wonder why Landa couldn't hold the wheel!

Powless attacked at all the right times. Mohoric did all the work on the front to chase down Powless on the climb. Mohoric then had to do the hard work to chase Powless down after that sketchy corner. And then Mohoric made a mistake trying to get away with 1.2km to go which burnt his legs just before the sprint and Powless was able to catch him and sit on his wheel. All that was enough to drain enough from Mohoric and allow Powless to then get a nice lead out and beat him by half a wheel.

What was the deal with the Eurosport commentator for this race? Never heard the guy before, he sounded like an aristocrat from 1924, half expected him to comment on the unique looking velocipides these bicyclists where on.
So chuffed you have the rights to post highlights LR. I'm sure law school bode well in this regard. It's just a small step to the left and you're posting detailed pro bike racing analyses on RUclips for a day job. It's one of the strangest career progressions I've heard of. I'm sure it's a story worth telling.
