Why are Dutch children too big for everything?

  • Ordinary chairs or bus shelters can be dangerous if they're not properly designed. Kids can get stuck in them or get stuck with their fingers in the small holes of public benches. It happens more often than you might think. And this is all because we don't really know how big children are.
    The last time children were measured on a large scale in the Netherlands was 35 years ago. In the meantime kids have grown quite a bit. Hein Daanen, antropometrist (specialist in human measurements) from Vrije Universiteit van Amsterdam and TU Delft has taken up this task together with his team. They measure hundreds of children in futuristic white cabins with dozens of camera's.
