This video doesn't make any sense whatsoever. You're not really showing anything, and you're trying to show HD content in SD format. What were you thinking?

Guy spent all of his money on the equipment so much he can't afford a half decent camera.

any chance you can re-record this in HD so that it doesn't just look like a blur?

***** Yeah I'd really like someone to properly record an HD Laserdisc onto the computer so we could really see what the quality is like. Filming the TV in 480p while it plays doesn't really help any lol. It will look the same in the video whether an HD Laserdisc is playing or a VHS

Classic80sStuff laserdisc isn't. HD, but I know what you mean.

***** Certain Laserdiscs are HD 1080i like the one in this video. They are called Muse Hi-Vision

    • @menotu000

Classic80sStuff MUSE high definition was actually 1032 or 1035 or 1125 scanlines and 1122 still or 748 moving pixels per scanline. so the max resolution for an he MUSE video is 748x1125. You are correct that it would be considered high definition but MUSE is very rare and was technically only released in Japan.

+menotu000 Did they have the same audio options as regular LDs did, like Dolby Digital and DTS? I would thing that it would be hard to manage both the HD video stream and DTS audio, even if the video was compressed.

Does this use component cables or VGA? What sort of HD cables did they have for these things?

    • @werailey3
      @werailey3 8 лет назад

+Dominik Sobolewski The LD has a single RCA cable out for the HD, called "MUSE." It actually has two outputs. The Sony box that he pans up to is a MUSE decoder, which takes that single output and converts it to Component video (YPbPr)

Hi i need your help, since i'm studying electronics engineering in multimedia. I would like to have a direct contact with you and i'll be needing pictures about your setup. Since nobody fully explains how the system works and i have no chance of geting one of these in my country

Pretty stout LD player! My question is do you need a muse decoder between the LD player and receiver to get HD on your television. I read somewhere that you need that device for muse laserdiscs to display correctly on a modern flat screen tv. Thanks!

      +David Michael Vara
The answer is yes. The deck sends out the MUSE signal through RCA cable to a separate decoder box, which can put out a 1080i signal through component cables that a modern HDTV can use. A lot of the Japan market MUSE TVs actually had the decoder built in.

i just wonder with all this muse hi vision and getting a decoder to get it to work does the picture beat the blu rau versions of the same movie?

They are absolutely worse than blu-ray. This was the early days of HD video and it really showed. They are all interlaced transfers and often have fields blended together so they can't be ivtc'd properly.

Do you need a special laserdisc player to play the HD discs? Will they display properly on a HD tv or a standard def tv without the decoder?
Also, were MUSE laserdiscs anamorphic or letterbox?
