I had a similar incident, I was in school for game design from full sail, at the time I was falling behind cause they was working me 12hrs 7 days pretty much with a swing shift each week.
I tried to reason with them cause the job wasn’t bad just overworked. The boss told me “ the job is more important than your hobby” (extract words)
I started looking for more jobs instantly and ended up landing in spectrum company and got even more training. Company car and free cable internet and phone on top of them paying for gas and food( life is good)
So now I got a degree on route to a second one, making way more money with less hours and I’m doing what I love.
He definitely tried to guilt trip me to staying and tried to apologize for what he said, they put him on his final😂

First Story: U would think that OP's boss would not want to change anything up here. Giving a freshly graduated college student is always a horrible idea. He yelled at OP for not doing other work when he was the one who wanted OP to work on the website and he was the one who told OP to quit
Second Story: These neighbors sound like they are old and bitter. Honestly, they were clearly just looking for something to complain about. Lmao, they couldn’t complain because all OP did was do exactly what they wanted
Third Story: They are just trying to keep OP's money and expected OP to just take the L
Fourth Story: Its suppose to be an emergency but she still want to follow policy?? Karen brought that on herself lmao
Fifth Story: A script for customer service? Why is this manager like this? Well she said read the script so she can’t complain. She clearly don’t like fun
Sixth Story: I mean he did tell OP to leave his stuff alone sooooo. Oh well, he lost his rod
Seventh Story: Ugh, this is why I couldn’t do customer service. They the one who told OP to leave them alone; rude people are the worst
Eigth Story: Why do people who are doing things wrong always give others ideas to screw them over lmao

I too had a paper route but I started at 12. When I first started, the route was a mess! Late payments or no payments were common but quickly corrected. Then Karen moved onto my route. EVERY Sunday (biggest paper with coupons) she would call to say that she didn’t get her paper even though I made it my practice to porch every one. I would start delivering by 4 am to be done by 7:30 so I could get to church by 9. After the 2nd time I told her that I need to put it in her backyard or some other place as it was making me late to church and was told that her dog would eat it. So after much thought I decided to also wake her but it was around 4 am. She was angry but I explained I needed to make sure she got her paper. After the 3rd Sunday wake up knock her husband answered and asked why I kept doing this. After explaining the situation he said to just leave it on the porch and he’d take care of it. Never got another call.😂

Sounds like something a couponer would do for more "free" coupons. LOL on the extreme couponers show I have seen them truly go to the extreme to get more including dumpster diving. (Watch those shows with a grain of salt because their editing can make things look worse for views...) The husband probably knew the scam she was pulling and it finally annoyed him so he put a stop to her shenanigans.

The lost fishing pole reminds me of another malicious compliance story from our man RSlash. A guy wrote that he and his neighbor had a deal where they would pick up and store each other’s parcels when recipient was away to keep the items safe from porch pirates. Neighbor sold their house and a new neighbor moved in. When OP tried to be nice and extend the same courtesy, neighbor lost his sh*t and told OP to leave his packages alone. So, OP did. Left the package alone and watched it get stolen by a porch pirate! Neighbor tried to chase the theif down, but lost them. I've been working at Academy for roughly 2 months now. I was hired to do online orders and in that time I am now helping unload trucks and place products. Now they have me doing overnight for online orders while still unloading pallets in my off time. At this point 3 team leads have quit and 2 people in my department have as well. They've asked if I want to become a team lead and I told them I would if the paid 1.5× what I'm making now. If not I'm not going to go move up and will just use their college reimbursement then leave just like several other people plan to do.
One manager has told me multiple times that I could be fired and I laughed in her face and told her to go ahead, I'll just go to one of the other 4 jobs offering me positions. Sure they pay less/no college reimbursement but are closer and don't pull this bullsh1t. She is still trying to act tough but I told her yesterday I will go to regional with my issues if she doesn't realize I am one of the only people left in her department.
PS: The job wouldn't be bad if she didn't constantly micromanage the overnight shift. She even thinks she has the ability to tell us when we take our breaks while the manager on shift doesn't care.

The one in regards to the following policy, reminded me of a laptop incident with my local library.
My town library has laptops that can be loaned out for 3 hrs, with an hour extra if you wanted to renew it for one more hour (for a total of 4 hours of checkout time total). You couldn't take the laptops out of the library, as they were only available to check out for only a 3 to 4 hrs total, per day. And when you checked out a laptop to use, they held your personal ID card as collateral until the laptop was handed back in to the librarian, and the librarian checked the laptop back in, and you got your ID card back from their hold box behind the desk.
Well, one time I had checked a laptop out, I had used it, turned the laptop back in to the librarian, got my ID card back, and that was it, and left to go home. About a week later, I get a notice from the library in the mail, saying that I owned the library $2,500 for the laptop, as it still showed on my account that it was still checked out and overdue. Basically, I was being accused of taking it home I guess(?), and the library was asking for the replacement cost of their laptop back!
I called them up immediately and asked them to check their laptops more carefully for their "missing" laptop, as I had indeed handed it back in on time, and had got my ID card returned back to me, and had I NOT had returned it, they'd still have my ID card in their box, which, upon them checking in it, they indeed, didn't have my ID card in their hold box, so they had to have obviously have given it back to me, which meant that they indeed, had to have their "overdue" laptop back in their possession after all. So they checked their collection of laptops, looking for the laptop ID number that matched the ID number of the checked out one still showing up on my account. They had it with their other laptops all along. Turns out the librarian just didn't actually scan the laptop to check it back into the system, resulting in it being overdue/still out on my account, resulting in the library fining me for the cost of their laptop.
They apologized and removed the laptop fine. I never checked out a laptop again after that.

Story 2: made me think of some relatives of mine who got their paper stolen. At first they thought it wasn't delivered. But when they kept not getting their paper they got up early. Saw it being delivered. A bit later a neighbour of theirs, who worked nights, walked past, took the paper and walked of. Next night my relatives found a 6 months old paper and switched it out. The neighbour stopped stealing their paper after that.

Such a toxic power move to dare an employee to quit if they so much as show signs of not being able to endure the horrible working conditions that's practically forced upon them, and not even getting recognized or rewarded for what they actually achieve. Those employers don't deserve to have anyone working for them.

The newspaper story reminds me of this one guy my friend had to deliver to, whose house was like WAY back on the lot. For some reason the house was all the way back and was flush with the alley (no back yard), and the garage was actually in front of the house in the middle of the front lawn. The whole property was basically set up backwards. Anyway this guy refused to allow anyone on his property, but still somehow expected that the newspaper be brought up to his door. He'd call to complain if you left the paper by the gate or in the mailbox, and he'd call to complain that you were trespassing if you walked up to the house to deliver it. So he borrowed my slingshot and launched the newspaper clear across the lawn. It never went where he aimed. After the paper ended up on the roof a couple times suddenly the mailbox was fine.

Did not think I was going to get a touch of clarity for something that happened almost 2 decades ago at this point.

The good old days of a paper round. People to lazy to get their own papers and expect quality service for the pay of peanuts.
I had people complain that I ripped their paper, even though they had the smallest letter box and ordered the biggest paper. I pulled it apart and posted it in like 10 bits.
I had people complain that their papers were wet. Yes it's a storm and I'm on a bicycle with the world worst bag to hold the papers. Yours can get taken out extra early and not when I'm under your porch.
I had people complain I was late, despite delivering at about the same time every day (inc weekends) and like and hour before the papershop said I had to get them delivered. Paper slipped into last position even though it means doubling back at the end of my route. Was always fun when they saw me deliver to others on their street then half an hour later just as they were leaving for work or just after delivering theirs. Whoops I must have missed your house by mistake.

Getting married I picked a dress but it only had cream I could order it in white. I ordered dress 1 in white dress 2 came in white and looks near identical but it has itchy sleeves it was my dad's favorite. 3 months later they call that my dress was in they were busy and I was looking at the ordered rack but not seeing my dress. They finally come and pull down one it was dress 2 with the ichy sleeves I told them I wanted dress 1. They wrote dress 2 on the order forms I had to skim for over an hour before I found my dress again 3 months later it comes in cream they reorder finally I get it just in time for the wedding but the alterations department could not squeeze me in because my appointment I set up 9 months ago had passed with no dress they find some manager last minute who did a horrible job as she gathered everything on my butt making it look unnaturally huge. It was still to long I had to buy platforms and walk carefully because it was still dragging the grown. Which was horrible since I was sick with a lung infection and still recovering from an ankle injury which is why I was originally planning on some nice flat sandals. The lung infection hit me a week before the wedding and stole my dance with my father and the bride groom dance and the platforms were hard on the injured ankle.

Hold on a sec... maybe someone who's more familiar with fishing knows better than I do, but... why on earth would you just leave your fishing line in the water and go more than a couple feet away? That sounds like it's asking for a fish to steal your rod. Unless your rod was some fancy thing that can automatically reel in a fish for you, but clearly the guy's rod wasn't anything like that. Is this something fishermen actually do?
