When Elp toured the Works Vol 1 album, they hired their own orchestra. I saw the show in Detroit, unfortunately, the orchestra was too expensive to keep on the tour, so about 6 months later, ELP was back in Detroit, just the 3 of them and I was there. Both shows were amazing, and, the concert with the orchestra was the most amazing sounding concert I have ever attended. For the encore they did "Fanfare/Pirates'. When the trumpeters opened up for "Fanfare", my God, you have never heard anything like that.....just spellbinding, and here nearly 45 years later I remember it like it just happened. R.I.P. Keith and Greg, you were a were/are a big part of my life and I thank you.
I'm 68 and all my younger friends DESPISE Prog. Frankly I find that hilarious. Cool that there's people out there discovering Prog bands for the first time all over again. I enjoy your videos a lot. Cheers from Dallas.

The Fanfare 1970 - 1997 was the best $150 I've spent in a long time. Wish I had bought two and kept one factory sealed. I'm really enjoying your channel Niamh. It's great to see ELP's torch being carried by someone so young.
I wasn't much of an ELP fan. I do consider their debut album an essential in my collection though. I'm not really a prog rock fan in general with the exception of King Crimson and Pink Floyd. I really enjoy your vids and find your passion for this music refreshing. Especially King Crimson. I got hooked on them in 1972(?) When I bought Lark's Tongues.

Its great to see someone of your generation love ELP. I took Keith as my Catholic confirmation name when I was about 13. Saw him play live 4 times. I ended up coming music trying to be somewhat like him, but without the rock backdrop. I wish he would have stayed more into serious music, then maybe he would have been content just composing and not worried about his hand so much.

He was as obsessed with ELP as I am back in the early 70s. He got to see them live too...I’m so jealous! It’s definitely worth the money for an ELP super fan.
One recommendation I would make, is to completely remove that sticker that holds the "extras" pouch closed. Now while it is easy, because down the road, it is going to give you nightmares!
You should have waited for this box set I was looking high and low for it also being a huge ELP fan and ( meeting Keith , Carl, Greg) all in person and collecting their signatures also on all my LP’S but as being said I am glad I waited for this huge cd /bluray/LP/ 7 inch single / box set I got it on pre order at import cds for $. $144.00 ( us money ) one of the best deals I ever seen being this set go for in the thousands dollar range was extremely happy to get this one for $144.00 ( US dollars ) get there and get it quick before it does vanish again
Oh snap you busted out the heavy artillery on this one! I snoozed on this box simply because I already had the ELP catalog in multiple configurations as they’ve been constantly remastered and reissued over the years but I’m still hoping that the Italy vinyl in this set gets a separate release at some point because I’d love to own it. Luckily the ELP camp is releasing the exclusive live stuff on vinyl for RSD for the past few years. Awesome overview! I’ve converted my girlfriend to be a progger as well, when we first met I had my “in the court” shirt on and that was the first album we listened to together. Warmest wishes!
I’ve been trying to get my boyfriend into prog for about a year and he finally listened to Red recently. One of the best he’s heard!! That Italy live album is absolutely incredible though.
I've been groovin on ELP since the 70's. Great band. I have a bunch of their vinyl. You should check out Asia. The band Carl Palmer was with in the 80's. Cheers.
ELP have been coasting on their legend for a LONG time . Another box set ? The album with 1978 live stuff . The greatest hits album . The Mar y Sol official album . The Isle of Wight debut where they fired cannons . So ... what have the fans really got since Works volume II ? A cover of Arthur Brown's " Fire ." Okay , cool . Releases without all three guys . Okay . A movie soundtrack by Keith . I recommend the Bootleg Series if you HAVE to spend money . Murky sound , but you can hear some of the Trilogy album played live , a 1970 concert , etc . But lets be real . This great band ran out of steam by 1980 . Why ? I dont know . Rest in Peace , Keith and Greg .
I'm guessing you own the Masters from the Vaults DVD ?(not sanctioned by the band, btw...) Such a great show. I believe it to be from Zurich in early '71. It's really the ELP I like best. Keith is mainly on Hammond & Piano with some Moog, Greg is in his prime & Carl has "Noddy" on his bass drum head & still has long hair.... For my money ? The best ELP DVD out there !! 🚬😎

ELP are great, great collection of music in that box. When Brain Salad came out there was a single the b side being Brain Salad Surgery which is not on the album, latter put on Works 2 that I remember being different from the Works 2 version, did you notice a difference? Keith's keys changed by Works 2.
Beautiful box set, nice overview! Certainly Carl may come across it :) Pop quiz!: where does the phrase ‘brain salad surgery’ originally come from? NO GOOGLING ALLOWED! A book from a few years ago called ‘The Show That Never Ends’ is a well written (though incomplete) history of prog, with wonderful essays on ELP.
Loved ELP as a teenager but I don´t think their dated sound holds up as well as other bands of the era. Also, the band really didn't have what you'd call a 'salvage formula' (e.g. Genesis post-Gabriel, Yes 90124-era, King Crimson Discipline/Beat, etc)
I gave the set a miss when it came out as I have all the regular studio and live albums in CD. Some more than once. The one CD that was exclusive to this set was the rough mixes of the Black Moon album and I would have liked that, but it is not essential to me. I don't care for the live stuff. Around £500 is a lot, but doesn't matter if you get the enjoyment.

One of my favorite songs is Touch and go but I am not sure if that is a ELP song, didn’t the band change their name or some members left?? Maybe you could answer that for me? ELP are my number 1, but I would never buy this, they said everything on 4 studio albums plus Pictures and Welcome back, everything else is unnecessary
True! And it's ridiculously expensive as well. First five albums are great, the albums after that not so much. There's a cheaper (clamshell) boxset released recently, which actually contains the first five (remastered). Original artwork. No booklet unfortunately, but for the price (25-35 Euro) very decent stuff.
If she can afford buying such a large and expensive CD/LP collection, I'm sure she can afford to live in a much nicer room than that. And how did she get a box set that is not even available yet commercially? This box set really is a rip-off, passing on this, I have all the remastered Cds and the LPs are no use for me. The only explanation to a very young girl having all this stuff is that this is a publicity stunt and free advertising.

i never heard that box set but i do have return of the manticore box set. i think only carl palmer s living.

My copy is not numbered, but it also includes the bonus CD of “Black Moon - Rough Mixes,” which I think is superior to the regular “Black Moon” album.

This box set was released in 2017 originally. They only reissued it recently. Also this is my bedroom, no need to insult where I live thank you
