Thank you, Hugh and Fuz. I look forward to the article expanding on the remarks concerning the 6th Mass Extinction. Some questions come to mind: a. 200+ years of data covers a wide range of human flourishing and development (maybe 8 generations of human life). Since we tend to predict disaster with more frequency than flourishing, we struggle to balance mitigation (a habit of the wealthy) with the flourishing (an intense need for the poor). b. For 50+ years, the wealthy countries have made significant improvements in "local" environmental care. Does this new data review indicate that such efforts have been "useless"? Is speciation loss an inevitable consequence of human presence? c. Some of your remarks sounded as if the 6th mass extinction was already underway and therefore inevitable. If so, should our stewardship be to adapt to inevitability (e.g. collect and maintain DNA samples) rather than make gestures at avoiding the event? d. I anticipate the article will have more than a "call to action" and a general attempt to shame the Christians. Not a simple task but I pray you can add a positive influence to this conversation. -- Lyle
I don't know of orders we've extinguished, but I know of a family Mohoidae. I had to look it up, because there's a family Mohouidae, which is extant. How hard is it to find a planet the size of Earth orbiting a star like the Sun out there in the galaxy? If someone out there looked at the solar system, they'd see Jupiter, and the Sun's wobble due to Jupiter, but they'd have a hard time detecting the Earth.
Aren't some of the family losses related to loss of relatively few species, just because the family had few members to start with, or even only a single species? If a single species represents the only member of its family and genus, its loss will inflate the numbers up the tree without the impact being any larger in real terms than the species loss itself. Not saying any of that is good, of course. Just talking about the stats.
we can terraform venus. first by establishing cloud cities as was proposed by nasa, and illustrated by empire strikes back more or less. robots and artificial intelligence must be the first ones to terraform venus and establish human habitation
God's got it covered: Since the OT Prophet Isaiah confirmed the NT Apostle John's vision of new Heavens and a new Earth, there's absolutely no cause to be concerned about climate change because we're trying to preserve something which will soon no longer exist. Jesus even confirmed it Himself: 22As the New Heavens and New Earth that I make, that remain before me, says LORD JEHOVAH, so your seed and your name shall be established Isa. 66:22 Aramaic And I saw new Heavens and a new Earth, for the former Heavens and the former Earth had departed, and the Sea was no more. Rev. 21:1 Aramaic Heaven and Earth will pass away, and my [Jesus’] words will not pass away. Matt. 24:35 Aramaic

This is my favorite channel on RUclips!!!

Which vertebrae families have disappeared?

No point in preserving human life in that case as everybody dies eventually.
